Today my teenager was upset because.....

On the back of the amusing threads about the irrationality of toddlers and their meltdowns, I have this for you.

Today my 17 DD is upset because I suggested booking an expensive (for me as a single parent) spa day for her and her sisters and me that we would go to on her 18th birthday. I hasten to add this is NOT in place of presents, cake and special attention for the birthday girl. Apparently I have made her feel worthless for suggesting she share her special day with her family. Confused

Annoyed that I probably won’t be ‘making myself known to her’ in the afterlife!!!

My cherub was incensed that his PC kept crashing at the weekend and vented his frustration on DH and I on Saturday night as we were watching a film. DH paused the film, acknowledged the great disaster this indeed was, offered constructive advice on what he could do until we could buy more RAM but no - DS needed the RAM immediately or his life was OVERRRRR. DH explained that it wasn’t possible to buy that at 10.30 on a Saturday night which was not the answer DS wanted.
Stomp stomp stomp up the stairs - slam, went the door. We laughed, unpaused the film and went back to not giving a fuck.

Today DD was upset because I asked if she'd like to come & see Dune with me & her dad & we'd pay. She said she'd love to go, but not with us, so she'd have to money instead to go with her BF... she's upset because I said no Confused

IntemperateSpirits · 25/10/2021 16:34

Why did you click 'OK' without talking to him about it first? Because I was rushing through a job that was his to do in the first place and I hadn't expected a lecture about desecrating his carcass.

I can't wait to ask him whether he wants to be buried or cremated Grin

BelendaCarlisle · 25/10/2021 12:34

He’s tongue in cheek but I think that he is slightly disappointed 😂

TheOrigRights · 25/10/2021 11:25

We got to the organ donation page and I clicked OK - he asked what it was and I told him, he went a funny colour and said I wasn't allowed to disrespect his dead body by ripping bits out of it.

Why did you click 'OK' without talking to him about it first?

IntemperateSpirits · 25/10/2021 08:52

Just applied for DS's provisional driving licence online. DS couldn't be bothered to sit down and touch the keyboard so just watched ove rmy shoulder. We got to the organ donation page and I clicked OK - he asked what it was and I told him, he went a funny colour and said I wasn't allowed to disrespect his dead body by ripping bits out of it. So I may have made things worse by saying it's generally only your corneas they take once you're dead, they have to keep your body alive to harvest your heart etc which made him stamp his feet and almost cry with horror. He made me promise I wouldn't "disrespect" him by agreeing to it, and then kicked me off the pc so he could find the organ donation website and opt out of everything.

He admitted he would accept a donor organ, mind. But that's not hypocritical.

Oftenithinkaboutit · 25/10/2021 08:12

He thinks fact he’s gay is a rebellious act?

Oftenithinkaboutit · 25/10/2021 08:11

@Belendacarlisle

My 15 year old is pissed off with me because he’s gay, has his ears pierced, has no curfew (because he always comes home at a sensible time anyway), I don’t tell him to do his homework (he does it anyway) and let him wear nail varnish. Apparently by not telling him off, disapproving or allowing him to be like this I am not allowing him to rebel like a normal teenager.
Has he seriously said this?

Classics?!

coolcahuna · 24/10/2021 23:56

My son (15) had a face like a slapped arse as I had the audacity to take him and his brother to Harry Potter Studios. He managed to keep the face up for 3 hours and not smile once, I was quite impressed.

Having showers Is honestly torturous. My younger one has frequent rants about who invented school 🤣

Butterfly44 · 24/10/2021 23:28

This thread is hilarious 😂😂

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 24/10/2021 14:34

Oh I can add another one.

I can hear my dd moaning at dh in the kitchen because I haven’t cleaned it up and ‘it’s gross’. Clearly I’m the only one that uses it. Hmm

She can get to fuck. It’s Sunday. I spend all bloody week running them about and cooking and cleaning and washing and food shopping. Fuck off madam.

RockinHorseShit · 24/10/2021 01:58

@MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig

Brilliant 😂😂😂

Though I've just realised that mine was born a know it all & just got rapidly worse from 14 onwards 🥴😂

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 24/10/2021 01:44

And this.

Today my teenager was upset because.....
MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 24/10/2021 01:44

I think this bears repeating.

Deborino · 24/10/2021 00:49

This isn't about my children but my mother. My eldest child was born 9 months and 1 day after I got married. She was two weeks early. My mother was disgusted and told me that all here friends would be counting and I mustn't have been a virgin bride!

MelroseGrainger · 24/10/2021 00:34

@beigebrownblue

DD criticised me and said that 'everything I did' in terms of washing, cleaning, financing (ten months home schooling to get her through G.C.S.Es) didn't matter and came under the banner of

'basic parenting'

I spent the next few months racking my brains as to what 'basic parenting' might consist of....

any ideas?

Put then in a shed at the bottom of the garden and leave trays outside the door?

p.s. we have no shed.

To be fair, she’s not wrong! Sometimes they call us out and they’re right! I hate that 🤣
footballfan1963 · 23/10/2021 22:39

Today my teen dd is upset because I won’t let her buy this to wear at Halloween. She’s 14.5.

CauliflowerBalti · 23/10/2021 19:06
@2389Champ - I once timed DS ranting and wailing about his maths homework, timed him actually doing the homework, and then presented him with a pie chart. It did actually get through to him!
This is my 13yo. I’m stealing this.

RockinHorseShit · 23/10/2021 15:53

Thanks @Fluffycloudland77

I didn't know about that stuff, though usually find a washing powder & vinegar paste does the job, but probably a lot more faff than your paste.

I've decided I'm making her clean it, she needs to bloody learn so it might sit there til she heads off to Uni Hmm,

Fluffycloudland77 · 23/10/2021 08:26

@patrickbatemansbusinesscard I bet you didn’t even bother to buy her a personalised baby grow either did you?

@RockinHorseShit Pink stuff paste will get that off. It looks like you’ve seasoned it though so it’ll get that off too.

Sunflowers765 · 22/10/2021 23:32

My DD 17 was upset because she had to come all the way downstairs to ask me something because I didn't hear her shouting "mum". I am a terrible mother - I was in the garden. HmmOh, and I hadn't taken my phone with me. ( our garden is not big ) no stealth boasting here 😂😂

RockinHorseShit · 22/10/2021 23:23

We've been away for 3 days, came home to this... my poor wokConfused

Me, "DD, it's good to see you've been cooking for yourself, what did you make ?"

DD "my signature dish"

Me Confused erm, what would that be, I haven't seen you cook anything like that

DD "it is the dish I make for BF, not you" 🙄

Me "what was it"

DD "fajitas"

Me Confused

Me "it might be nice if you made that for us sometime, dad & I like that"

Me still bloody hopeful that she might remember the state of my wrecked wok & apologise

DD "NO" look of horror on her face, rolls eyes & flounces out of the kitchen

so I won't be getting that apology then😏

& why use the wok, why use the wok to cook EVERYTHINGConfused
