On the back of the amusing threads about the irrationality of toddlers and their meltdowns, I have this for you.

Today my 17 DD is upset because I suggested booking an expensive (for me as a single parent) spa day for her and her sisters and me that we would go to on her 18th birthday. I hasten to add this is NOT in place of presents, cake and special attention for the birthday girl. Apparently I have made her feel worthless for suggesting she share her special day with her family. Confused

I have two recent ones:
I said he had to pay his own Ucas fee (£25) because I’d already subbed him £45 for shoes he didn’t buy and had generously allowed him to keep the money anyway. So he’s still £25 up (and has a job).
He can’t take the cat to uni next year - apparently she’s ‘his’ cat despite him never doing anything to help care for her (and she’s of course obsessed with him!).

@SmartCar

My dd is mad at me for the size of her feet. Want to be a size 3 not a 2. She's only turned 13 so lots of time to grow a few more sizes
At her age, my shoe size was 13 - yes, child 13. Grew to a 3, so there's hope for her still. Grin

@Flossie44

Yourdeadtome - my son also thought that his 6 hours of lectures a week at uni (also non vocational) equated to ‘too busy to get a job’. In his final year, when in fact he had his dissertation to write as well, he strangely got a job! And then announced how amazing it was to have money!! Funny ole thing! 🙄

Because I haven't washed his clothes quickly enough

These 'clothes' have been lying on his floor for roughly 3 weeks

The rules are: washing has to be in the laundry basket to be washed

Him: well there's no point putting them in there as I need them within the hour
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I really laughed at that one

Odetomelancholy · 05/11/2021 12:14

And no…. I didn’t notice the girls highlights who was standing three people BEHIND me whilst queuing for the headteachers talk. Silly me, if only I’d looked I’d know how she wants her hair Confused

Odetomelancholy · 05/11/2021 12:11

Had sixth form open evening last night….. you can imagine how embarrassing I was Wink you know just by walking in the classroom at the exact time this weeks headturner was walking out Grin

DD16 has a maths assessment tomorrow and was getting in a right tizz about it tonight. Totally disgusted at my inability to remember how to work out the gradient of a straight line - “but mum, you said you did maths at school!” Er, yeah, in 1989!! 🤦🏼‍♀️

Dartsplayer · 03/11/2021 20:50

DH is our DS's football coach. DS(14) has decided he wants to give up football because every Sunday when we pick his friend up on the way to the football match we say "hi how are you?" when he gets in the car. Apparently that's just weird - who knew 😂😂

IAAP · 03/11/2021 19:56

My DD screamed at me 3 times that she was ‘coming’ when I asked her nicely to come and eat her dinner. Was most shocked that I have it to the dogs - it had been on the table for 30 minutes with several warning but she was ‘tidying her desk’ dogs were pleased, her less so - although she did make herself some toast

TheChip · 03/11/2021 17:35

Ds13 called me after school to rant at me about how shocking I am for not picking him up from school. His school is 2 minutes away. 1 minute if he was to run.
When I hung up on him as I refused to be spoken to like that, he then went into a further huff and stomped up the stairs and remained there for an hour.
He emerged with a much better attitude.

Yourdeadtome · 03/11/2021 17:19

Dd1, 19 hung on me when I said she needed to get a part time job at university, she said but you and Dad said you’d give me money, err yeah but you still need a job. Apparently, shes so busy, shes not, its not a vocational course.Hmm

Flossie44 · 03/11/2021 10:07

Sparklydino - we seem to have the same daughter!! Altho I’m not sure mine would walk home! Not after working!! 🙄🤣

Runaround50 · 01/11/2021 22:02

@SparklyDino you are not wrong re teens being selfish fuckwits!
Seriously, how long must we endure this shite??

Ds 13.5, far far worse than any toddler!

SparklyDino · 01/11/2021 21:32

@Flossie44

My dd thinks it’s unfair if she has to wait for me to pick her up from work. She expects to come out of work and for me to be there waiting for her. The issue is, she doesn’t know her finish time. It can be anywhere between 5-6pm. I’m five mins away, yet she doesn’t want to wait while I drop everything and race to pick her up. She’d rather me wait up to an hour in the car in a car park, so she can saunter out and slide into my car!!
Omg are you me? Exactly the same daughter! Except it's 10 minutes away in the middle of the countryside finishing work at 11pm from a rural pub.

I want her to get a scooter so I don't have to pick her up. She won't. Scooters are ugly!

Like you I only pick her up when she's finished. Once, god forgive me, I didn't text her quick enough, to say I was on my way and she fucking walked home. Across the fields, and deserted country lanes, while I was sitting in the car park.

I was raging as I was scared and she at least looked sheepish. It's a fine line between making her aware of the dangers of some men and scaring the shit out of her.

It's so difficult as she's my youngest after 3 sons. They'd have had to walk home, but not her. Especially as a 15 year old was nearly abducted near us. It went to court etc so wasn't your usual scary Facebook shit.

And yes we're not on here asking for advice we're posting as we know what selfish fuckwits they are and want a bit of light relief. Teenagers are def worse than toddlers.

@Oftenithinkaboutit

thanks for your apology.
I have fallen into the trap of telling people they were BU then got told to stop it because it was Chat🤣
see also: Zombie threads, another trap!
it's easy enough to misread a room when usually people have a problem to fix, even though the OP is pretty clear, because we do get caught up & carried away

love & peace

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba

why do some posters think that we need someone to fix it for us? or that their judgement is welcome? this is not a thread where insights and unsolicited advice are required. we are just letting off steam

we are capable of handling our own teens,
so stop the bloody unwanted counselling and let us get on with the eyerolling and tutting for our own entertainment. cheers

Fair enough Apologies It’s just that for some of us… it really is pretty shocking and I suppose given it’s mumsnet… instinct is to “get involved” But you’re…. Not my problem. Not my business
SirChenjins · 01/11/2021 14:21

@CharityDingle

yet she doesn’t want to wait while I drop everything and race to pick her up.

Please don't continue doing this. Tell her to make her own way home.

I'm slightly incredulous at what some people put up with from their offspring. How are some of these extremely self entitled teens going to cope in the real world?

To be fair, PP didn't say she was doing it - just that her DD wants her to!
Oftenithinkaboutit · 01/11/2021 11:48

Agreed.
They become the subjects of threads on here about bridezillas and CFs!

Oftenithinkaboutit · 01/11/2021 11:47

So in that case, you need to tell her to stop being so rude
Or she can use her earnings to order a taxi to her gone

Flossie44 · 01/11/2021 11:37

She’s 15

Flossie44 · 01/11/2021 11:37

We live very rurally so sadly I can’t tell her to walk as wouldn’t feel she was safe
