On the back of the amusing threads about the irrationality of toddlers and their meltdowns, I have this for you.

Today my 17 DD is upset because I suggested booking an expensive (for me as a single parent) spa day for her and her sisters and me that we would go to on her 18th birthday. I hasten to add this is NOT in place of presents, cake and special attention for the birthday girl. Apparently I have made her feel worthless for suggesting she share her special day with her family. Confused

Sorry - should have been a Grin after that.

On your side - I swear to God! LOL

SchadenfreudePersonified · 18/10/2021 13:23

@SimpleHoardOfTruth

Because we bought new doormats. Final straw after redecorating the house. Bastards.
DOORMATS!?

You complete and utter sh*ts!

JKDinomum · 18/10/2021 13:23

Reminding mine about things they need to remember, train tickets, music lessons, PE bags gets an irritated huffy "yes I know!" But failing to remind them makes it my fault they forgot so they cannot possibly be blamed or be expected to deal with the consequences.

Mine was also angry this morning because she wasted all her time watching tiktok and then I reminded her (again) to empty the dishwasher which made her 30 seconds late meeting her friend. This is despite me already having reminded her about the dishwasher 30 minutes beforehand.

@ineedsun yes I did say, I didn't think you actually enjoyed that holiday that much from my memory! And ds (also now in his 20s) said yeah I'm pretty sure you were miserable for most of that holiday. She seemed totally bemused. Said that the wifi hadn't been great but it wasn't the end of the world as it was a lovely holiday! She reminded me that when we got home, her and ds went and bought me a lovely meal to thank me for such a nice holiday (they knew I had worked hard for it!) - which they did to be fair - but that still didn't change how it looked like she wasn't enjoying it! ds and I were chortling at this 're remembering' !! I think when you are a single parent though, you are more sensitive to your kids' behaviour as it's only you and them. So maybe she was enjoying it more than I realised (!).

mumonthehill · 18/10/2021 13:22

During the summer when ds was doing a full time holiday job, he collapsed in a heap one Friday as he was so exhausted at having to go to work. I gently told him that I did that as well as the shopping, cleaning, life admin etc and he then told me that actually his job was much harder than mine so he deserved to be more tired than I would ever be.

KloppsTeeth · 18/10/2021 13:18

Told him to get in the shower, he didn’t want to.
Then told him to get out the shower after a reasonable amount of time - he didn’t want to.

@DidgeDoolittle

Mine are all grown up now but this has reminded me of the horror of teenage boys. Mine were mortified as I had the audacity to make them granary bread sandwiches. Apparently they would be the only ones in the whole school to have the utter humiliation. Everyone else had white sliced. Everyone.

I took ds2 to JD sports to buy him this very expensive, trendy warm coat. He sulked and pouted throughout. Then this young sales bloke told him that perhaps he ought to be grateful his mum was buying him such a nice coat. He did manage to grunt his thanks after that.

Went to a sports shop with ds3 when he was about 15 to buy trainers for school. To his horror there was another 15 year old lad there, also with his mum buying trainers. My ds grunted and sulked until I lost my rag and told him off. The other boy snorted with laughter. Until his mum promptly told him off for laughing. Both boys went home without new trainers, but us mums went and had a coffee together. Smile

This is excellent 👌

@notacooldad

This isn't funny I nearly posted the same. To me that's crossing a line. Ivevhad some right humdingers with my kids but it's never got into insulting name calling.
I have 18 Yr old and 13 Yr old ds's.

They have NEVER called me a misogynistic slur.

Really sad the op thinks it's amusing.

If he says that to her what what he saying to his peers? :(

EggsellentSmithers · 18/10/2021 13:16

@couchparsnip

I am a terrible parent for suggesting that DD (13) should finish her maths homework from last week. Apparently the teacher said not to worry about about it. Chinny reckon madam. You're doing it
You’re the only person I’ve ever heard say “chinny reckon” other than DH 😂

I cleaned my sons room and got accused of making it smell “like Victorian times”

Did you use lavender wax polish and put camphor mothballs in the drawers? Grin[/quote]
Lol. I used wood polish spray on the windowsills, perhaps that was it!

Opal8 · 18/10/2021 13:13

@Helpmyson

My 16 year old called me a bitch because I have refused to change our flights, back from long awaited holiday, so he can celebrate Halloween with his mates I feel.your pain , why are they so horrid to us ? Will it ever end
This isn't funny
thequeenoftarts · 18/10/2021 13:11

Teens, can't live with them and can't fucking drown em either sigh ....Aren't they lucky we can't lol

alloalloallo · 18/10/2021 13:09

My teen DD got very upset with me over the weekend for looking in her room for a “smell”, locating and removing an old, half eaten bowl of cornflakes and milk and then opening her window

I was embarrassing by gagging and retching - honestly, it was rank

I’ve upset her today by refusing to leave work to drop off her PPE to college - she doesn’t like carrying it around so wanted me to drop it off in time for her practical lesson.

bjjgirl · 18/10/2021 13:09

Oh and both my dds have declared October and November as pointless, they just want it to be Christmas so they can play Xmas songs.

They are "over" Halloween 😫

Tupperwarelid · 18/10/2021 13:07

He doesn’t know how he is going to do his foreign language spoken mock exams with a mask on. School has large number of Covid cases so there are asking students to wear masks in communal areas again.

MarieT · 18/10/2021 13:06

The stealth boasting on this thread is hilarious Grin

CointreauVersial · 18/10/2021 13:05

Oh, the Spotify thing is hilarious.

DD1 and DD2 had a standup screaming row, because DD2 had added some songs to her Spotify playlist that were already on DD1's playlist. Apparently it's HER music, and no-one else in the world is allowed to listen to it.

Dd 12 also has meltdowns because I don't love the dogs enough. This is because I told her I love her and dd2 more than the dogs, and was trying to explain my love for them in terms they understand, she took from this that I can not possibly love the dogs enough, they are hers now as she loves them more than all the humans in her life.

Auroreforet · 18/10/2021 12:55

@SherBear1971

I have a friend whose son was mid rant who shouted " why can't we be a normal family and eat ready made lasagne instead of homemade!"
My ds was so jealous of his teenage friend whose parents let him choose frozen ready meals including a full English breakfast! Apparently we were really mean cooking from scratch with fresh, quality ingredients!

I have a cold and a sore throat, dd is fuming because my voice is now annoying her. I need to either not get a cold or not talk directly to her

Flossie44 · 18/10/2021 12:46

Apparently asking what lessons they have that day is pressuring them to think!! Not asking them what lessons they have that day, is utter neglect!!
