On the back of the amusing threads about the irrationality of toddlers and their meltdowns, I have this for you.

Today my 17 DD is upset because I suggested booking an expensive (for me as a single parent) spa day for her and her sisters and me that we would go to on her 18th birthday. I hasten to add this is NOT in place of presents, cake and special attention for the birthday girl. Apparently I have made her feel worthless for suggesting she share her special day with her family. Confused

@TheWeeDonkey

DS is at uni and no longer a teenager. I was howling the other day. He was telling me how he'd spent the whole day cleaning his house share from top to bottom. He'd just sat down when his housemate came home with his girlfriend, they'd brought a takeaway and left food wrappers and left over food all over the kitchen and then gone straight to his room.
 • Can you imagine how frustrating that is mum?
 • Well now you come to mention it son
Love this so much & the “points quivering finger”

One day they’ll be home owners with coasters and a shoes off at the front door policy. You can all have a lot of fun with them then.

MaxiMini · 19/10/2021 07:42

Do all teenagers do this as mine is 15 and I'm still worried it's going to hit any day

frazzledfragglefromfragglerock · 19/10/2021 07:16

@IsAnybodyListening

My DS16 recently told me he was absolutely sick and tired and SO annoyed with me, that every day when he comes home I ask 'How has your day been?' apparently I could use 'Other' words rather than repeating myself like a robot.

So I have shook it up and he is getting crosser. 'Good day fine squire, was the college from whence you came a suitable learning establishment'? I've tried ''Oh, you're back. Didn't know you had left. Where have you been?'' Apparently I am NOT funny.

Blinds. His bloody bedroom blinds can't be opened. This is a new thing. He literally yells if I go near them. I suspect he might be part vampire and I have a possible 'Lost Boys' situation on my hands.

I accepted his friends facebook request. He was absolutely furious, and said I was 'Bang out of order' to have accepted the request and I should have deleted it. His friend I have known since a toddler and have fed dinner to a zillion times in my own home.

I hoovered his bedroom. Apparently he did this only last month and said I have a 'Cleaning Problem'.

All of this made me laugh. You are my kind of parent!

Oh gosh this is the thread I've been waiting for ...

MumofSpud · 19/10/2021 07:06

I constantly 'lose' all her things - ie I pick them off the floordrobe and put them away in their correct places.

ineedsun · 19/10/2021 07:05

@choli

Genuine question. Did you all get away with that sort of crap as teenagers?
Are you reading a different thread than me? The vast majority of this is very typical teen stroppines, caused by hormonal and neurobiological changes - a typical and important development process - as demonstrated by the fact that lots of us are talking about how much better they are as adults.

Let’s not make this into something it isn’t.

myheartskippedabeat · 19/10/2021 07:01

@Lanique

My list is endless:

We had the temerity to suggest earlier that we all go to Antigua next Summer after their exams, but it might clash with 'other things' such as parties and drinking in fields with their mates

We 'threatened' to take them back to New Zealand for another Christmas next year, which was totally unacceptable as they like Christmas at home and could mean them missing out on Christmas parties. Bless them the poor lambs are still traumatised by the experience of being made to spend Christmas Day on a beach in Abel Tasman National Park a few years ago.

We took them to Dubai three years ago and dd2 still hasn't got over us 'making her' miss Halloween.

Other than that they're perfectly lovely girls that are, believe it or not, not spoiled at all other than in cases such as the above where the possibility of 'missing out' is too much to bear 🙄

Have you considered adoption - I'm up for that it sounds like you give your children amazing 🤩 experiences

Inthesameboatatmo · 19/10/2021 05:09

Loving the thread .
I've a nearly 14 year old dd and everything is my fault and she always has to have the last word, God it drives me potty.

champagnetruffleshuffle · 19/10/2021 04:22

My 14 yo dd got extremely annoyed and told me off for 'doing too much for her and not getting her to help out around the house', apparently I am making her lazy. She delivered this tirade from her bedroom on Sunday, I had not managed to convince her to get dressed all day...

Silkieschickens · 19/10/2021 04:08

No I would not have got away with answering back my parents, I would have been hit or grounded or refused food. I wasn't allowed to give my opinions on anything so I was the perfectly behaved child but scared of everyone and everything.

@JenniferWooley

DD(19) is currently not talking to me I'm gutted obviously because I have suggested that her Christmas gifts go in a gift bag under the tree with the other adults gifts as opposed to being set out on the sofa as if Santa has been. She actually wailed "Santa always leaves my presents on the sofa"

She'll be 20 by the time Christmas comes & hasn't believed in Santa for the past 10 years FFS

Thank god I’m not the only one with a 19 year old like this!!!
Lifeinthescratcher · 19/10/2021 02:50
@Lifeinthescratcher no need to apologise, when I started the thread last night I was actually really quite upset about my DDs behaviour and still am now, parenting seems a thankless task at the best of times. (I am secretly quite relieved she'll be going to uni next year).
mumoftoddlerandteen · 18/10/2021 23:21

Oh and me to DD13 ‘did friend1 and friend 2 have a nice half term’

DD13 ‘eurgh why do you have to be so interested’

🤷🏼‍♀️

mumoftoddlerandteen · 18/10/2021 23:19

Me (feeding 7 month old son his dinner) to DD13 ‘could you get a yoghurt from the fridge for your brother please?’ (her other brother is 3 and can’t reach fridge)

DD13 ‘what am I, the whole family’s slave now?’

🤣

MotherofPearl · 18/10/2021 22:18

My DD (13) was extremely annoyed with me today for trying to help her fill in her activities log for DoE. Apparently I've "done it all wrong." Confused

I compounded this heinous crime by asking her to use a plate when eating a snack of cheese and crackers. Cue loads of eye rolling and stomping.

Her dad asked what she was listening to on her AirPods to which he got the reply: "Oh my God will you just stop trying to talk to me!"

I was "just trying to be cool" when I admired his new hair style and "why do you have to spoil everything by liking it". I apologised and pointed out that I didn't think dying his hair was a big deal and I did genuinely like it. I've also been dying mind for twenty years so I never thought about it as a problem.

Positivelypatient · 18/10/2021 21:37

Wow you guys have been busy! Its been a real tonic to read about your teens.

I've had a long tiring day at work, DD hasn't surfaced from her room all evening so there is an uneasy peace in the house tonight.

My DS (16) is upset with me because I asked him to let me see the school photo he has brought home. OMG Why do you want to? was his response when I said, Because I want to order copies of it. Your Grandmas will want one each and we always order one.

Apparently it is now unreasonable of me to purchase the yearly school uniform photo, despite the fact that we have done so every year since he was in Reception. He is now Y12.

FYI Apparently it isn't that he doesn't like the photo. He just can't be 'arsed' to find it in his bag. That would be too much effort.

polkadotpjs · 18/10/2021 21:19

@RockinHorseShit you win the cool award. I want you to be my mum please

whenwillthemadnessend · 18/10/2021 21:11

Place marking to read later. Two grumpy teens here

dementedma · 18/10/2021 21:10

Some of these are funny, but a lot are spoilt brat behaviour imo. And yes I have raised teens, 3 of them, but none of them behaved like some of the examples on here
