On the back of the amusing threads about the irrationality of toddlers and their meltdowns, I have this for you.

Today my 17 DD is upset because I suggested booking an expensive (for me as a single parent) spa day for her and her sisters and me that we would go to on her 18th birthday. I hasten to add this is NOT in place of presents, cake and special attention for the birthday girl. Apparently I have made her feel worthless for suggesting she share her special day with her family. Confused

Youth is wasted on the young! Grin

ladynyland · 19/10/2021 17:52

Totally unfair that DH and I are not divorced. All her friends parents are divorced and they get two birthdays two Christmas days etc and all the Dads have really cool flats houses etc in Bristol and we live in the country.

creampuff99 · 19/10/2021 17:52

I spent hours tidying up son's room when he was at College, making piles outside his room of all clothes too small for him etc. He came home, put all his clothes back, threw the hoover down the stairs and came to mess my room up so that I could see what it felt Like. Internet is down for up to 72 hours so both teenagers in a complete huff with me as it is clearly my fault that someone crashed into the BT box up the road 🤦‍♀️

janx · 19/10/2021 17:50

I suggested my 13 yr old put a raincoat on as it was lashing down. He refused but it was my fault he got wet walking to school

karenjkayjay · 19/10/2021 17:48

My 19 year old got in a strop because I didn’t explain exactly what mini hash browns were, she eats the full sized ones regularly so I thought mini ones would be self explanatory! But apparently not so she cooked her own dinner and sat in a grump all evening ….

Carpedimum · 19/10/2021 17:47

These are hilarious! My DS is generally ok, but texted me the other day to say that I’d not paired his identical white socks correctly (exact words) & that the button part of his ironed trousers curves inwards. I said that I thought his text should have read ‘thanks for doing my washing & ironing’ & asked for clarity on the curving… no response. I can only think that it’s the way he’d hung them on a hangar. He’s mainly sulking currently because I’ve said it’s Uni or get a job & pay board.

Bigbus · 19/10/2021 17:47

My DD13 is angry with me today because She can’t see her best friend on Saturday (who she sees 7 days a week) because we are going on holiday even though we actually have rearranged flights back so that all the DCs can be home to see their friends all weekend for Halloween.

It’s kind of funny but I’m also kind of fed up for being the bad guy all the time!

BBOA · 19/10/2021 17:45

16 DS lost his shit as I asked him to repeat the laptop password so I could print off a form from my emails. The laptop we just bought him.

footballfan1963 · 19/10/2021 17:45

Anyone have a teen who prefers one parent to another? Dd3 (14.5) just can’t stand her dad at the moment. It’s very hard for him. He’s a kind loving father and she’s so nasty to him. I’m hoping it’s just a phase.

I don't have teenagers yet but this reminded me of being a teen. Two events stand out in my mind that just baffle me.
  1. I was in the car listening to music on my personal CD player age about 14 and listened to the same track over and over. It must have been so loud because my mum said something like 'you must really like that track' and for some reason I argued that I actually didn't like it at all and then refused to listen to any music. I was LIVID. WHAT?! I'm just baffled by my own reasoning. My behaviour must have struck me at the time as absurd because I remember it. But yeah, I was absolutely enraged she dare suggest I liked a track I liked.
  1. Went to a college open evening and my dad commented on the architecture to one of the lecturers. For some reason this made me feel totally humiliated.

Dad: I think X dates back to X doesn't it?
Lecturer: I think so!

I looked to another girl in the group and said 'I'm so sorry. Omg' and she looked back with an expression like 'OMG I totally know what you mean. This is horrendous for you, you poor cow'.

Again, looking back ... what?!

But the best part about this was that years later I had a job there and pointed out the very thing I dad noticed. I then felt guilty I was such a twat years earlier.

I probably did way way way worse things but for some reason they stand out in my mind as utterly bizarre things to have done.

So good!
Sonex · 19/10/2021 17:43

My 16 year old responded with a pained expression and massive groan because I'm making him go on the NCS Autumn program where, at no expense to him, he will get to hang out with a bunch of similar age teenagers and do a load of fun activities instead of sitting at home bored.

etherealbeauty · 19/10/2021 17:42

Oh wow I've found my people!
It's the age I've found hardest so far and it's not long begun.
Why are teenagers such unreasonable dickheads? (Only half joking)

MyMabel · 19/10/2021 17:41

Can’t contribute, I’m just sat here now regretting reading these as my 2 year old munches down on skips and watches Peter Rabbit.

I do remember suggesting to my mum that she must hate me more than anyone in the world and she was being ‘fucking annoying’ because I couldn’t have a friend stay over unless I tidied my bedroom.

On the flip side, my attitude turned right around at 17 and we’ve been super close to it’s no falling out since then! - hang in there.. it will end! 😂

footballfan1963 · 19/10/2021 17:41

@EmotionalSupportBear what a lovely post. My own mum wasn’t great with teenagers, I hope I’m doing a better job with mine.

Jazz50 · 19/10/2021 17:41

Im sure this will not score me any brownie points, but your children sound spoilt and entitled and you raised them that way without even knowing you were doing it.

starryeyed19 · 19/10/2021 17:39

DD, 14

Because I wouldn't let her go and watch Venom on a Sunday night at 9pm

Shouted at me because I didn't hear what she said

Keeps coming into my room without knocking

Woke me up on Sunday morning and then said that she was going to make me breakfast but because I had been horrible to her, she wouldn't

I can't even remember the rest

footballfan1963 · 19/10/2021 17:37

@MaxiMini

Do all teenagers do this as mine is 15 and I'm still worried it's going to hit any day
I thought the same about my oldest dd @MaxiMini, everyone warned me but she didn’t change a thing.

Dd2 - slightly more challenging but not too bad

Oh boy are we paying for it now with dd3 😂😂😂

girlsyearapart · 19/10/2021 17:36

Dd2 13 has started covid isolating on day 1 of half term. She is fine.

Dd1 14 is losing her shit and proposing her sister stays locked up in her room for ten days as ITS MY HALF TERM AND SHE WILL MAKE ME MISS HALLOWEEEEEEN

zero sympathy for her sister who can’t do anything for ten days 🙄

ilovechocolate07 · 19/10/2021 17:33

I'm loving this thread as a mum to a 14 and 12 year old!

Wbeezer · 19/10/2021 17:33

Well my teenager is properly upset because the cat died suddenly but he's already lining it up as an excuse not to do the coursework he's supposed to do over half-term.
Also his older brother is to upset to speak to me, just uses gestures to get me to leave him alone, and reject all food and drink but did perk up and chat away when his friend came over to see him. Has not asked if I'm OK, its all just happening to him...

DanceItOut · 19/10/2021 17:29

Today my teenager was upset because I told him that no I was not buying him costa on the way to school and if he wanted tea or coffee in the morning we have it at home and he will have to get up early enough to make his own.

cricketmum84 · 19/10/2021 17:24

P.s my new phone hates me.

I would be KICKING him out

cricketmum84 · 19/10/2021 17:23

@cricketmum84

Haha love the stories of when we were teens!!

I once refused to speak to my for an entire week because she said my new boyfriend was weird.

He was a trainee chef 2 days a week but carries his knives around with him every day. She met him and the first thing he did was show her his knives and how sharp they were 😱

Omg if one of my girls brought home a guy like that I'd be child king him out in seconds!!

*my mum
