I've just deliberately sent my husband on a wild goose chase

I may or may not have changed some details of said hobby and equipment.

He has a 'hobby' that he is obsessed with. Let's call it wild goose chasing. He watches YouTube videos about wild goose chasing, he reads magazines about wild goose chasing, he has all the gear ('infrared', 'thermal imaging' etc) and likes to go out wild goose chasing on a regular basis.

Recently he hasn't been wild goose chasing due to some disillusionment with his level of success in wild goose chasing and the lack of presence of gooses in the local area. This means every night, for many hours he has talked to me about wild goose chasing. Reads out bits from magazines to me. Talks endlessly. Listens to goose chasing videos in bed and comments on goose chasing techniques.

Tonight I went out on a run and happened to see a wild goose in an unusual location.

Nonchalantly told DH about it and would you know it, off his own back he's excitedly gone out to chase said wild goose.

I've now had two hours of mumsnetting and watching MAFS UK without someone talking about gooses through it. I expect DH is still delightedly crawling around on his hands and knees with his thermal imaging goggles looking for said wild goose.

Only I didn't see a wild goose.

AIBU?

AIBU to see it again tomorrow?

I think I love you, this is brilliant lol

GooseyGooseyWander · 02/09/2021 22:52

Is there a Mumsnet cookbook that I don't know about?? I love flapjacks

I think there was one once.

You need to google soupdragon flapjack and it brings up the proper recipe which is the best but I must admit I use a bastardised version these days as my weighing scales were very badly designed by Salter (they don't have an off button, you have to take the battery out every single time) so I no longer use them unless I absolutely have to.

I should buy new ones really

Anyway, inspired by soupdragon's flapjack I put a block of butter, a tin of condensed milk and a really good squirt of golden syrup in a pan and melt it all together then add shit oats until it's the right consistency. Bake in oven and try not to burn it too much.

I won't reveal the hobby, if I did you would understand why.

If I wanted to I would. But I don't want to. Sorry!

@Annasgirl oh no Plan is deadly serious. Deadly. Absolutely no sense of humour whatsoever. She's a bit of a legend on here for taking everything absolutely literally. It gets quite tiresome.

Raggedyanabell · 02/09/2021 22:35

@SoupDragon

He does love your flapjack though SoupDragon I might make him some today to appease for the horrible bullying he is entirely unaware he has experienced

I am withdrawing my permission for you to use the recipe because you are a horrible nasty bully.

😉

I love this thread!

Valmur · 02/09/2021 22:17

Looking for otters or pine martens?

I’d love to have an excuse to go out and pursue my hobbies, even on a false pretext!

Trumanshow · 02/09/2021 22:15

He’s a “detectorist” (or beepbeeper as I call it) isn’t he?? If so OP.. god I completely understand and have done similar 🤣

BrutusMcDogface · 02/09/2021 22:12

🤣🤣🤣

FangsForTheMemory · 02/09/2021 22:10

Owls?

Bertiebiscuit · 02/09/2021 22:10

How you married women put up with these husbands is an endless source of speculation for me - men have weird hobbies and interests, and women are expected to just tolerate their nonsense - it was football with my long gone ex husband - I divorced him after, without consulting me, he bought a 2nd t v, a portable one for "our" bedroom so he could watch football in bed - byeeeeee mate - never married again, I'm a quick learner

@JamieFrasersLover

Aggghhh gooses! My fave word is gooses!
You appear to be having a goosey breakdown
HonoreDeBallsack · 02/09/2021 22:07

@ImprobablePuffin

I read this as "badger wanking", and thought it an unusual hobby.

😂 But you know there will be someone out there.

If there is, Antone de Caunes would have interviewed them on Eurotrash.
Bleachmycloths · 02/09/2021 22:07

Gooses. Lol 😂

ChasedByFox · 02/09/2021 22:07

You felt its spiritual presence?
Maybe the hobby is spotting images of Christ in everyday objects? (on toast, dappled shadows of leaves, in zebra stripes etc)
Grin

ChasedByFox · 02/09/2021 22:05

@Soubriquet - that may have been me on about the coffee table badgers! They look like furry cornflake packets on legs weirdos

Fox spotting is probably more fun than being chased by them though...

This thread has proper cheered me up. Thanks OP Smile

Is it wild boar spotting?

annacondom · 02/09/2021 21:57

@Flowers500

I saw something the other day about a woman who would put drops of water on the ground by the washing machine to entertain her husband when she needed some quiet time
Thanks. Really brilliant. Thanks againn
liveforsummer · 02/09/2021 21:57

Can't be foxes 🦊 he'd have to be really rubbish at his hobby to not find those. They Trot through our school playground full of kids in the middle of the day. Definitely not the most elusive of creatures. I agree with the red squirrels 🐿

Marshmallow91 · 02/09/2021 21:55

Another vote for classics!

And its definitely fox spotting 🦊

NewLifePending · 02/09/2021 21:39

Love this thread! You have an excellent sense of humour and way with words!

GooseyGooseyWander · 02/09/2021 21:37

@Oblomov21

Fun thread. But I don't get it. You said you saw it. Then you said it wasn't. So was it? Or wasn't it?
I felt it's spiritual presence
