I've just deliberately sent my husband on a wild goose chase

I may or may not have changed some details of said hobby and equipment.

He has a 'hobby' that he is obsessed with. Let's call it wild goose chasing. He watches YouTube videos about wild goose chasing, he reads magazines about wild goose chasing, he has all the gear ('infrared', 'thermal imaging' etc) and likes to go out wild goose chasing on a regular basis.

Recently he hasn't been wild goose chasing due to some disillusionment with his level of success in wild goose chasing and the lack of presence of gooses in the local area. This means every night, for many hours he has talked to me about wild goose chasing. Reads out bits from magazines to me. Talks endlessly. Listens to goose chasing videos in bed and comments on goose chasing techniques.

Tonight I went out on a run and happened to see a wild goose in an unusual location.

Nonchalantly told DH about it and would you know it, off his own back he's excitedly gone out to chase said wild goose.

I've now had two hours of mumsnetting and watching MAFS UK without someone talking about gooses through it. I expect DH is still delightedly crawling around on his hands and knees with his thermal imaging goggles looking for said wild goose.

Only I didn't see a wild goose.

AIBU?

AIBU to see it again tomorrow?

It has many flapjack recipes, this one has a comment attributing it to Soupdragon

They've stolen it! 😱

(To be fair, the original recipe was taken from the Internet but I spent many an hour refining it to the point where I removed all the additional sugar. The first attempt was so sugary it was virtually inedible)

@BewareTheLibrarians

Schroedinger’s goose? It’s both there and not there until it’s observed by your dh, so technically op you’ve done nothing wrong.
Love this!!!
ArthurApples · 03/09/2021 07:01

Doe he hunt foxes and rabbits, lamping and shooting?

Ekofisk · 03/09/2021 06:45

I’m wanting to know what MAFSUK is, many posts have mentioned it.

Married At First Sight UK (started this week on E4).

We are incredibly lucky to have a large office type cabin in the garden where my DH plays his Xbox hobby. He has given up trying to get me to play these games, it’s a perfect solution. And when he comes back in the house he leaves his hobby behind and peace is restored. I also wonder about the time factor, I don’t seem to have time to play video games for hours on end.

Ineke · 03/09/2021 05:22

Mushroom forager, bird watcher, conservation work….hmmm must be something to do with nature and the environment, deer stalker perhaps!

liveforsummer · 03/09/2021 04:29

I won't reveal the hobby, if I did you would understand why.

The plot thickens. It must be something really obscure. All the suggestions of otters, beavers, squirrels and even glow worms are all perfectly reasonable things to spot and unlikely to be outing. If it's something localised I guess that could be a little more however there would likely be loads of people in the area who are spotters.

LosingMySh1t · 03/09/2021 01:02

I have so much to learn from you oh great one.

ChasedByFox · 03/09/2021 00:36

Maybe it's a dragon thing? Grin
Tbf, I haven't looked up the flapjack recipe for about ten years, and there was a tab at the top of the page for recipes then.

ErrolTheDragon · 03/09/2021 00:12

I found the MN recipe section by searching for 'MumsNet recipes'.... I'm not sure it's linked to from the MumsNet Food section.

Why I'm hunting for a flapjack recipe including condensed milk when I don't have any in the house and it's past midnight I don't know. Maybe because I regularly see wild geese and need more of a challenge?

Dolphins/whales ? (If your goosey wood is metaphorical too.)

Note for earlier poster:
Glow-worms are a lovely part of life here (south coast of England /cliff-top/ parkland). You really don't have to go to America to see them. There is an annual count of them at the end of July and special walks to take visitors to see them at other times.

@mytortoiseisill

Still recovering from this post 17 pages back:

“I saw something the other day about a woman who would put drops of water on the ground by the washing machine to entertain her husband when she needed some quiet time“

My dad likes to escape my mum. He will claim something in my house needs fixing and he will also need to go via the DIY shop Reality? He's sat on my sofa, drinking coffee and watching top gear HmmGrin

@BobLemon

I’ve read this whole thread out loud to my OH, who is known to have hobbies which require equipment and late night YouTube binges. And likes birdwatching. But all he could come up with is badgers or otters! But why would there be magazines about spotting otters?
Hotter Otter Frotters is a thriving monthly subscription publication.

Highly recommended - free night vision glasses when you sign up for a yearly direct debit.

BoreOfWhabylon · 02/09/2021 23:49

Do you live near the Brecon Beacons, by any chance, @GooseyGooseyWander ?

If so, I think the gooses are SAS types, hiding in the undergrowth with bits of netting on their helmets and brown and green facepaint.

It would explain the need for silence and stealth, since they are trained to kill if discovered.

Alternatively, if you live near the sea, is it submarines? Is he out there scanning for periscopes?

DesertSky · 02/09/2021 23:40

You’ve made me chuckle OP. Tbh after 18 months of both my husband and I working from home, I’d be half tempted to concoct a similar plan in order to have the house to myself for once! Grin

SoupDragon · 02/09/2021 23:28

Now I've looked I don't think there is a recipe section any more, only the topic on Talk.

SoupDragon · 02/09/2021 23:26

Soupy's recipe is just in the recipe section.... wherever that is these days!

Is it? I think I've only ever posted it on threads about flapjacks.

ScotLot · 02/09/2021 23:11

@GooseyGooseyWander this is rather irrelevant to the thread but I have salter scales that I thought didn't have an off button until one of the kids figured out if you hold down the on button it goes off, maybe worth a try if you haven't already

Happylittlethoughts · 02/09/2021 23:04

🤣🤣🤣love it

ChasedByFox · 02/09/2021 23:03

Isn't the cookbook called something like Top banana?

LucyAutumn · 02/09/2021 22:57

Or deer?

LucyAutumn · 02/09/2021 22:57

Is it otters?!
