To feel "posh"

Have recently bought my DC towelling shorts from Boden for our holiday.. I feel like a bit of a posho which is weird, I know 😂

So what I want to know is, what thing did you buy for your children that made you feel "posh" or even, what have you bought your DC that your parents would have never dreamed of buying for you?

Lighthearted.

“doorornottodoor

I’m now wanting towelling shorts finisterre.com/products/womens-organic-cotton-robeston-towelling-short-olive

I might actually get the hoodie for my UK beach holiday grin ❤️“

I have looked at these towelling shorts and hoodie and am longing for them. What utter luxury to have these special cosy, organic cotton shorts specially for trips to the beach or after swimming or gardening.

I had the same tradition with both my DC. I would never give the decorations away because they constitute our family Christmas at my house and we had a very enjoyable tradition of putting the decorations out. My tree wouldn't be my tree without the Llama on top and all the slightly mad baubles bought by us all over the years. I presume my DC will establish their own rituals with their new partners and families.

I’ve come back to add about Clark’s. When Id been with dh a couple of months I mentioned dd needed proper shoes now she was walking , he suggested going to Clark’s to get measured. I’d already made up an excuse as to why I wasn’t going to buy any that very day (because for some reason I couldn’t admit I would be buying them second hand off eBay. )Just getting her feet measured there felt posh to me. She tried the loviest shiniest shoes on. He went back while I was in the baby change in the shopping centre and bought them in 2 different colours , put the bag under the pram and didn’t say a word. I looked him in the eyes and had to stop myself from crying !he said it wasn’t even because he thought I couldn’t but because he wanted to. Every pair of shoes she’s had since then have been Clark’s and it is their thing to go get shoes and a Mac Donald’s. I love feeling posh looking at the shiny shoes lined up in her wardrobe.

@Lemonmelonsun

Lnd, that is a beautiful story but also they can be very personalised what if his wife doesn't like them!
Yes I was always wondering about that. My youngest future wife/husband will hopefully not mind the ghastly priced unicorns and butterflies 😬

@Lndnmummy

A few years ago I read about a poster on here who’d brought a Christmas bauble with her son every year. Fancy ones like from Liberty’s or Harrods. They’d make a day of it and go into town, have lunch and pick their Baubles. Then when he got married she gifted them all to him and his wife. It was such a lovely story and I couldn’t look at my B&Q baubles the same way that year so I decided to shamelessly steal her idea. I’ve now got a very fancy Christmas baubles collection and my dh jokes every year that someone will break the family heirlooms.
Oh we do this! The shops vary as sometimes the destination shops aren't as lovely as you imagine, last year we bought them from Tiger as we just happened to be in there but have done Liberty etc.

I have a mulberry handbag and an APC one. I have a YSL one arriving in the post this week.

I work full time with 2 kids, run the house, keep everything going (my DH is good too though) so I feel like I’ve earned those bags.

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 23/07/2021 21:17

@Confusedandshaken I love that .. it’s the little things isn’t it? 💕
Ds is a skint student, but just announced he’s going to buy a butter dish for his new flat 😂 because obviously I’m a heathen and keep mine (usually not real butter either) in the fridge. He’ll be telling that story on a thread like this one of these days..

My son had osh kosh clothes in 1993 when he was a toddler. My parents bought him loads of stuff when my Dad worked in the US. I felt posh when he went to playgroup 😂

LadyofMisrule · 23/07/2021 20:53

My partner and I did a job a few years ago that required some foreign travel. We were chauffeur-driven to Heathrow, where we caught a business-class flight to Hong Kong, and stayed at the Peninsula.

It all felt slightly unreal.

TheRebelle · 23/07/2021 20:44

I buy new clothes for my kids, I grew up with hand me downs and charity shop clothes not because my parents couldn’t afford new but because they didn’t think it was worth spending the money on kids.

When I bought my daughters first birthday outfit from Liberty, I felt so fancy when it turned up.
I will add it was in the sale though....

GreyhoundG1rl · 23/07/2021 20:24

It's a lovely thing.

Nocutenamesleft · 23/07/2021 20:22

I love the book one. We do that often. Bloody love it. My kids adore books. My younger one is more academic and spends hours doing school work.

I’ve brought them a lot of toys. I grew up not being able to eat. We were homeless. My mum didn’t eat for days so I could and had it not been for A Good Samaritan. We would of starved.

It’s not posh. But because of my past. Me and my children often work with the homeless. Both are under the age of 10 and often help me do the work. We go around our local town and often offer food and drinks and a chat. They all adore my children and often recognise them. It’s not posh. But it’s our thing.

AuntMargo · 23/07/2021 20:22

@VictoriaLudorum

This is the saddest post I have ever read here.
oh you misery !! Its a fun post surely you can tell that !
RaindropsOnRosie · 23/07/2021 20:22

Sat under a tree this afternoon with a baguette and a bottle of wine whilst swatting flies away cooling myself with a vintage fan. It may not be towelling or extravagant but I felt reet posh

SummerBreeze1980 · 23/07/2021 20:18

@NeverDropYourMoonCup - love your description. What an amazing feeling!

grasstreeleaf · 23/07/2021 20:14

Swishing around in a maxi dress with cocktail rings on. Hair up in a bun. Neck fan round my neck. Just like a 21st century Margot Ledbetter! Grin

FeltCarrot · 23/07/2021 20:14

@orangejuicer

Not posh but extravagant - £400 aircon unit.
Ooh! Me too, and an extra £50 on a drill bit to drill a hole in the wall for the outlet hose!

Loved it when my dc were smaller and wore mini Boden.

Winecurestiredness · 23/07/2021 20:13

My mum won a tatler subscription once and although she never had the time to read it she would conveniently leave it very obviously open on the magazine rack Wink it backfired on her though one day when I read through it myself and found a posh sex article!
