Obviously I'm not being unreasonable to ask 🤷‍♀️

Mine was from some friends who had older kids.
Always double the sheets/plastic sheet in baby/toddler bed.

It's saved us in the middle of the night on countless occasions.

Treat your children with respect and expect the same back.

Best tip I ever got was to remember that you will get some normal amounts of sleep again, it does return to a semblence of normality! : )

And a swift dig into the ribs of my husband at 3am to remind him it's his turn to see to the crying baby. 😂

My father in Law suggested we call our son, Gotham.
I looked confused. He said that whenever I wanted my husband to get up to feed the baby, I simply had to say "Gotham calls."

Corniest dad joke ever!

"Happy mum happy baby" helped me with those times of guilt and feelings of failure

Newsenmum · 19/02/2024 21:32

The baby towel trick. When bathing a newborn, wrap them in a towel or muslin when you put them in their baby bath. Then pour warm water over them. It keeps them warm and they don’t scream bloody murder like when naked and exposed. They actually like it!

Never, ever make false promises.

Always have clear goals.

Expect nothing, be pleasantly surprised.

The parent is the bow, the child is the arrow.

In other words accept that your job, as a parent, is to give your child the skills and experiences to live their own life.

That made me feel a bit queasy.

If someone gives you advice when you didn't ask for it look at how their kids behave and either take it or smile and ignore!

PENYPARC · 02/12/2023 21:45

I was once told never say how well they sleep or how well behaved they are as babies because as soon as you do that all changes. I forgot to tell my husband this after he opened his mouth I didn’t get a good sleep for a month 🙈

FirstTimexMomma · 02/12/2023 21:26

The best tip I have ever received was that to treat our children like our equals. To be honest their friends rather than their parents. Some examples of this include, allowing my 32month old to choose her own bedtime, to choose her own name and allowing her to choose what foods she eats. It may be unconventional, but it works for us 😀

Teens are like the British summer.
If you've managed 3 good days, you are due a storm!

Might be too early for you but the best parenting advice I had was “they will come back to you” talking about wayward teenagers. I keep that in my head every time my teenager is frankly being a dickhead.

I needed that today!

Tessa92 · 23/10/2023 12:04

I solved 2 problems/ habits in one when my sons were small - 30 years ago now. Younger son unfortunately broke his arm and needed a full arm plaster. This a)meant he was unable to suck his thumb (couldn’t get the preferred thumb into his mouth!) and b) stopped his 6 year old brother getting in bed with him every night - (I told older one that if he did that he was likely to be accidentally hit with the heavy plaster!)

LJ125 · 22/10/2023 22:04

You can buy UV sterilisers now which are even easier! You just put the items in the box, press the button, leave it for the allocated time (30/45/60 mins) and it’s done!

I was also told that the baby should fit in with our routine.

It worked well snd it meant we still had our life!

Well 2 bd 3rd babies etc all have to fit in family routine

From dm, there is nothing wrong with putting him in his cot for 5 minutes to make a cup of tea when you get worked up. Safer in his cot alone for a couple of minutes than in an upset stressed mummy's arms.

She was given that over me by a midwife and my god, those few minutes away from a baby who you've done everything you can for are lifesaving.

My mother told me this also
