We pay a company to clean our bins once a month on bin day. I’m not usually home when they come, but I’m off work today And happened to be in the kitchen. I watched my next door neighbour wait until the cleaner left, take the house number sticker off my bin and put it on his, then swap our bin for his so he had the cleaned bin and I had a non-cleaned one.

He was back in his house before I had time to contain the dog and go outside but now DH is home, WIBU to go round and ask for my bin back??

OP posts:

@JackieWeaversAuthorityHere

DH is home WITH THE BIN. Victory is ours!

Apparently he made a half hearted attempt to argue that ‘wheelie bins are council property not personal property’ but apparently DH asked whether that meant he was allowed to steal our cleaned bin and he said ‘its not stealing, it’s not your bin!’ Hmm

When they were standing outside, DH was asking them to remove their bag of rubbish from the bin so he could take it back. Binstealers wife said DH was being petty and to just leave the bins how they were. DH said he’d be happy to, but she needed to pay us the £9 for the bin cleaning or come over with her marigolds and get scrubbing Grin

I love that man I do. He’s extremely pleased with himself and I’ve not seen him this cock sure for years!

Your husband is Ace. I just wish you'd had that video of the CF for the local FB group first!
JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 29/06/2021 15:07

But then people might think they are Tories 😱

cabingirl · 29/06/2021 15:06

You should paint your numbers exactly under the bin stickers - it will be a nice surprise for him next time he tries to peel the stickers off!

magicstar1 · 29/06/2021 15:04

I'm laughing at @OchonAgusOchonOh .... I'm in Dublin and thought oooh a bin cleaner is a great idea. I must be getting notions Grin

Omg the comments at the end, fantastic.

Congressdingo · 29/06/2021 14:46

Do they have, for example, pampas grass

Spat my coffee out at this. Thanks, made my day with the comment

SallyCinnabon · 29/06/2021 14:38

Neighbaby!!!

snort laugh

viques · 29/06/2021 14:25

@JackieWeaversAuthorityHere

Question for the room: what kind of paint do I need to use on this bin? Will any paint do the job?
I expect Farrow and Ball are working on this as we speak.

Neighbaby :a soft ochre like baby poo

Unwise Choices :a dark grey

Mariglove: a warm yellow

Heroic Endeavor : gold

fabulousathome · 29/06/2021 14:25

I used old nail varnish on mine. I used a colour I didn't really like! Most people have one of those, or one that's gone a bit sticky.

I painted the number on each side plus the top.

intheenddoesitreallymatter · 29/06/2021 13:47

spray paint would do it.

Daube 'not for the take' in block capitals

Thank you. I could "hear" the accent as I read those. Smile

DailyMaui · 29/06/2021 13:32

"Are you sure you did not mistake the person for someone else? It's difficult to believe that a councillor would expose himself in this way. Maybe you hold a grudge against him because he's a Tory?"

Well HELLO councillor Bin Stealer. I've bin expecting you.

Oldraver · 29/06/2021 13:22

@londonscalling

I don't think I would paint your house number on your bin in big letters. I'd be tempted to write it on somewhere discreet, in very small letters, with a Sharpie. That way you can catch your neighbour out if they do it again!
Always put the number in the bottom ad well
EvilPea · 29/06/2021 13:22

If you'd had CCTV, this would have been gold

Well played, ours used to get regularly stolen... not by neighbours, i mean people would stop, chuck it in their van and fuck off with it.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 29/06/2021 13:20

DH says ordinary gloss paint.

RestingPandaFace · 29/06/2021 13:16

I’d have said bin cleaning was notionay myself back when we had weekly collections. Now that it’s 3 weekly it seems much less absurd Envy

we use "notions" in Scotland too![/quote]
I remember buying chocolate for my XH when I was pg with DS, the shopkeeper asked me if I was getting notions, I said no, DH is! Grin

RampantIvy · 29/06/2021 13:12

Our bin is marked with a permanent marker. Not that anyone would want to steal our bins anyway.

Nothingyet · 29/06/2021 13:12

Just a question: If OP thinks it may have been going on for some time, then presumably she has not noticed if they are clean or not clean, so what is the point of getting them cleaned?

IAmAWomanNotACis · 29/06/2021 13:12

@JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon

Can I suggest a transfer with the Cheeky Fucker Tory Next-door's face on it (use his campaign photo and get one made up).

Put the transfer on your bit then paint underneath "this is not my bin,it belongs to no 12"

Should stop him nicking it again.

Ooh yes! Or better, the campaign photo with a "Vote for Cllr [name], Chief Bin Stealer!"
IAmAWomanNotACis · 29/06/2021 13:10

I want you to paint a clever phrase on your bin, but I can't think of one. I was sad enough to google appropriate trash quotes, and I think this one might be suitable:

"It's so nice when toxic people stop talking to you. It's like the trash taking itself out" Grin

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/06/2021 13:10

@JackieWeaversAuthorityHere

Aaaah thanks for all the love, I’m glad we entertained you all for an evening!

I would post a photo of ddog, but he’s a cross with a rare breed and very recognisable from the breeds Facebook group so it would be a bit outing sadly! Imagine a very hairy grey Shetland pony that farts a lot and always smells damp for no reason and you’re there. He’s a local legend because of his size as well so again he’s pretty outing. I’ll give him a cuddle from all of you though.

NDN has been out this morning watering the hanging baskets, DH was just heading out with Ddog and there was some glaring and pursing of lips, so I think we’ve poked the hornets nest on this one.

He sounds gorgeous - the dog, not the NDN - give him a cuddle from me please!

Let me text DH and ask him. He's a retired decorator.
