Disclaimer - I love animals and im fascinated by them! But truly some have an aura of menace about them...
To start, I give you the Shoebill Stork. Not dangerous or anything but...disconcerting.

Phantom midge larvae. Clear worms with 2 black dots that hover in the water. Then before they transform into midges they look like little demons......

SchrodingersMat · 29/06/2021 14:46

Chinese crested dogs are really hideous, poor creatures.

lettie9 · 29/06/2021 14:27

Has anybody said goblin shark yet? Rare species of deep sea shark. You really need a video. Their jaw elongates rapidly to catch prey, and looks like it's coming out of the mouth.

lollipoprainbow · 29/06/2021 07:36

The clown crab spider looks crocheted !!

Poorlykitten · 28/06/2021 23:18

RandomUsernameHere · 28/06/2021 21:50

I do love MN at times

NarcissaMalfoysManicure · 28/06/2021 21:30

@Poorlykitten

That’s like a moray eel, two sets of jaws so if the first set don’t get you, the second one surely will!

When you swim in a creek, And an eel bites your cheek, That’s a moray

VenusClapTrap · 28/06/2021 21:24

For those who think the dik dik is bad, the Saiga antelope takes things to a whole new level.

Bobbit worms. I think they must have inspired the Alien film, because they have that whole set of jaws coming out of another set of jaws thing going on. Horrifying. And they can grow to 3m. Argh.

Ekofisk · 28/06/2021 20:01

Baboons - the ones near Cape Town are adept at opening car doors.

Owls have ridiculously long legs.

looptheloopinahulahoop · 28/06/2021 19:02

The wasp that lays its eggs inside a spider and the young literally eat their way out of the spider (while alive).

Zwellers · 28/06/2021 18:38

tounge eating louse and stone curlew both freak me out.

LoveFall · 28/06/2021 18:12
@LoveFall I just had to Google the murder hornet....they are quite beautiful in a scary way
They do have a certain frightening beauty. But seriously, a 3 inch hornet?

They are called murder hornets because they can quickly murder an entire honeybee colony in no time. The decapitate the honeybees.

Our honeybees have no defense. Japanese honeybees have various behavioral defenses.

They are not only scary and creepy but they really, really don't belong in the Pacific Northwest.

OldTinHat · 26/06/2021 23:51

Bloody hell OP! I so wish I hadn't googled that - its terrifying!!!

TellmewhoIam · 26/06/2021 23:36
@TulipWoodpecker chat doesn't disappear anymore, the creepiness will last forever!

(Additional shoebill picture to add to the creepiness)
I think the shoebill is just lovely 💓

ConfusedDotty · 25/06/2021 21:45

Butterflies, spiders and moths. They freak me out.

GinJeanie · 25/06/2021 21:29

@smolgose - I'm a dog lover but have always been a bit scared of bull terriers! Terrified of dobermans with cropped ears too, although have not met one irl - only ever seen in films with Nazi SS guards 😱

Poorlykitten · 25/06/2021 21:28

Norbert is pretty creepy. 😂

RubyGoat · 25/06/2021 21:24

An antidote to all the horror.

Also, rainbow eucalyptus trees are very pretty.

mayaknew · 25/06/2021 21:15

I have nothing to add other than I now need counselling after reading this thread 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Thelnebriati · 25/06/2021 20:57

Just be warned, if you do google 'camel spider' then you're going to see what happens when they bite you.

Thelnebriati · 25/06/2021 20:56

Hm2020 · 25/06/2021 19:54
