Something unexpected that made you go "wtf??"

I want to hear examples from your experiences. Like when someone drops the facade for a second and you see something a bit scary about them, or when someone reasonable comes out with something utterly ludicrous and you've no idea how to react. I want to hear them! Because earlier today, I found out that my neighbours daughter doesn't have identical twins called Ronnie and Jensen, which was my assumption. She has one boy called Jensen, but my neighbour hates the name and will only call him Ronnie. The boy is six. His middle name isn't even Ronnie. His grandma just prefers that name and calls him that. Confused

Going outside to my vehicle to notice there's no number plate at the front 🤔

nopuppiesallowed · 03/09/2021 15:57

Anyone else been blindsided by the price of cushions? Two bits of material and a bit of padding and "Thank you. That will be £50." Shock

I havent read this thread yet, so if this doesn't suit, then I apologise.

I was having investigations and such done before I was diagnosed with vulvodynia, which also included a really fun trans-vaginal.
Anyway, go back to my GP a little while later for the results. She printed the paper out and literally said out loud "what the fuck?" Apparently, I have evidence of an c-section in my uterus.
I've never been pregnant. It also hasn't come up on any other ultrasound reports so no idea what they were seeing 🤔

Oh, I have a new one this morning!! Phone relentlessly chiming with Facebook messenger tone at 6am. Woke me up. Switched phone to silent, thinking anyone who would need to contact me in an emergency would call me. But I couldn't get back to sleep so I decided to very grumpily look at who fucked up my morning.

I sold a large piece of flat pack furniture on Facebook marketplace THIRTEEN MONTHS AGO, and the person who bought it has messaged me asking if he can have all my original pictures of the item that I used to sell it with. Followed by -

I recently visited my mum in another US state...for some odd reason everywhere I visited the batteries were running out of power whilst I was there! 3 smoke detectors, clocks, a car with a brand new battery...I feel like an alien who is draining energy for myself like in the movie.."Close Encounters of the Third Kind:"Confused

Foofbrush · 14/07/2021 21:50

At a smallish European airport, on the transit bus from the terminal to the plane, the display screen in the ceiling was showing the route and stops for a normal domestic bus service.
That would have been fairly odd, but the real wtf bit was that it was a bus route I regularly travelled on at home in the UK.

@WeatherwaxLives

Not my Wtf moment, but someone I know who works in pest control.

He was called to a supermarket as they had been hearing something scrabbling around above the false ceiling and thought it was rats. The store was open, and he set up his ladder and poked his head into the ceiling shining his torch into the darkness, looking for droppings or other signs of rats.

Suddenly he hears scrabbling and something large moving about. And out of the gloom comes a cat. Not just any cat, though - HIS cat!

He lived just over the road, so grabbed the cat by the scruff and hustled back home to shut it in - as he left he could hear panicked customers exclaiming 'where's that rentokil man going with that cat?!'

Love this!😂🤣😂

BelleClapper · 13/07/2021 14:45

Last year dh and I were in a pub, I nipped out for a cig. I came back and he was in a conversation with a stranger. The stranger had approached DH and said oh, you’re Belle’s husband, I recognise you from her Facebook profile.

Turns out he was someone from a different school that I’d had a snog with when I was about 15. He’d obviously spent a fair bit of time in the last 26 years looking at my SM, I checked and we have three mutual friends, none of whom I ever interact with (old school friends).

He then stood up and totally face planted onto the floor, obviously very very drunk.

Just completely WTF.

undertheglassceiling · 13/07/2021 12:38

*Male, not make

undertheglassceiling · 13/07/2021 12:37

I wrote about this in a dedicated thread.

When my new boss told me he finally felt he had broken the glass ceiling. Make, white, straight, 30s. Just like every single one of the bosses who went before him.

Being passed over (once again) for a job I didn’t even know was briefly vacant - despite being more experienced and educated than he is - I was struck completely dumb by the nonsense of that comment.

He, however, was not and gushed about how proud he was of himself as he smiled from ear to ear.

tiktoknewbie82 · 13/07/2021 10:26

@OoofBaBoof

I have so many of these!
  1. When DS was born, DH was sent a paternity test kit in the post. We asked all of our friends if they'd sent it as a joke which we wouldn't have found especially funny but would see why some of them may have and nobody admitted it. We weren't angry or anything just needed to know who sent it. Nobody has ever admitted sending it 6 years later!
  1. DH's best friend from school and I have a really strangely linked past despite growing up over an hour away from each other.

-My cousin married her cousin when I was 7, she was 10 and we were sat on the kids table and she told me her friend was a boy and I was naturally disgusted because I thought boys were disgusting.

-My best friends mum married her uncle (different side of the family) and I went to the wedding as a 17 year old and she ended up going the bar for me a few times. DH actually came to pick her up later that night!

-I did some temp work for an agency. One job was for 3 weeks while they waited for the new person to start. That happened to her. I was then sent to another company to do a different role again while they waited for the new person to start and I was actually replacing her.

-My sister got engaged to her housemates brother. They broke up because this friend had walked in on the brother in bed with another housemate and she ended up telling my sister.

-She worked for my aunt and we didn't realise until my aunt had an anniversary party and when DH and I arrived we saw her getting out a taxi.

-Her mum worked for the local council supporting nurseries and she came out to the setting I was working at and helped me get it ready for an inspection. It was only when the mum saw a picture of my DH that we realised I knew her daughter.

  1. I used to see the same girl everywhere when I was in college. After a while it got a bit strange, I'd notice she would have the same bag as me and the same clothes and my friends started to notice she was everywhere. One day she went in to the hairdressers my college friend worked at and ended up telling her as she got her hair washed that her name was my name, she was going out with my boyfriend, she worked where I did and that she was studying the course I was on. That may have been her name and maybe her boyfriend had the same name as mine but she definitely didn't work at the same place and the college course had a small number of students on and we worked with the older students and she definitely was not on that course. I ended up leaving after my first year in college so didn't see her around any more but that was a bit of a HmmShock moment.
I really struggled reading this one, I'm just not getting most of the scenarios you listed even though I've read it through about 3 times. Maybe it's just me though. HmmBlush
FuckingFabulous · 13/07/2021 10:02

Just got another one! A knock on the door. These days, it's normally Amazon or the postie dropping off something I bought on eBay. I got up and opened it. There was a woman there, who immediately said "close the door! I'm trying to take a picture." I clocked the package on the doorstep so......Ok. Thinking 'Don't knock til you've taken your picture then'. I stood by the door waiting for her to go and she didn't. Then I heard her say "JeeeeeSUS!" And she sort of yelled "you can open it now!" I did, feeing utterly bemused, and she took a photo of me in my dressing gown bending down to get the package she'd left on the doorstep. Then she turned around and stomped straight across the grass, trampling my lavender plants! There's a path! It was a very wtf moment.

I was once walking along a footpath flying a kite as I went - one of those small, soft pocket box-kites that fly really easily.

I'd walked for a couple of miles with it flying high, in front of me.

Suddenly I noticed a field of cows ahead, all of them gawping up at the kite, not frightened, just curious - they looked ridiculous Grin

ChocolateCakeYum · 16/06/2021 16:42

Loads but two stick out right now:

  1. I grew up in Canterbury. It’s a huge tourist city, insanely busy and full of posh types. One day walking to school along part of the city wall near the shops a very clean and well to do looking business man in a pin striped suit squatted down besides the local Wilkos and took a huge dump (there was a toilet less a 20 metres away). Soon a bunch of Japanese school children began passing through as I was scarpering. They thought his pooping next to the shops was hilarious and started taking pictures. After the man had finished his huge dump (no he didn’t wipe) he picked up his briefcase, took out his mobile phone and told whoever was on the other end that he’d be in the office in 5 minutes. He carried on like nothing had happened!

  2. University this time. A house mate and I were sitting in the lounge one day watching TV when this big arsed pigeon flew into the window and broke its neck. Anyway, knowing there was nothing we could do we went back to watching TV. Some time passes and we decide to check on the pigeon and it’s not there. We both proclaim it’s a miracle and the bird has come back to life via angels (usually I’m more practical and don’t believe in such nonsense, neither did she). We go outside with smiles on our faces to thank god or whatever and that’s when it hits us: it wasn’t a divine intervention that had moved the pigeon, it was a cat and they were tucking in to large snack! Not sure what came over us. We looked at each other, shrugged, laughed and went back to the TV!

I'm sure you've got something to add to this thread!Grin

Sweetpea1532 · 15/06/2021 00:33

Oh,baby in a fire, of course!
See attached photo of when DH swam into a sand shark in 6 foot deep water....everybody will know that can't be the sort of injury one gets from an encounter with a shark!

I'm sorry, but I can't let this pass without comment...
Sounds like DS4 is a "chip" off the ole blockGrin[/quote]
🤣

We are deciding between fighting with sand sharks or saving a baby from a fire.

Sweetpea1532 · 15/06/2021 00:07

@ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba I'm actually really sorry DS4 has gotten hurt..his injury sounds so painful.. he needs to come up with a better story as to how he actually broke his knuckles, though.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 14/06/2021 23:44

well we've just got back from A&E with DS4.

he came home with a swollen & bruised hand. he walked into & banged it on a door frame. they checked him out, then later he cycled home. his pinky knuckle was a bit sore initially but got more painful & swollen by the evening so I thought we'd better go & have it x-rayed in case there's possibly a hairline fracture or something.

well, he doesn't have that. he has a boxer's fracture across 3 fingers/knuckles (pinky to middle finger), he's in elbow length plaster cast & will need another x-ray in 72 hours to determine if he needs an operation 😱 WTAF???
I'm shocked.

Sweetpea1532 · 14/06/2021 19:40
