to think it's really cheeky to invite someone to a BBQ then expect them to bring...

...The BBQ!?

We were invited last week to a friends today for a BBQ. They called this morning asking to borrow our BBQ, we assumed there's had broken or the one they ordered hadn't arrived etc - but no. They don't have one. So we suggested they come to ours and bring some of the stuff they'd bought as our BBQ is very heavy and large (won't fit in the car without removing the child seats and lying all seats flat) but it turns out, that not only did they want us to bring our BBQ, they wanted us to leave it at theirs as they are having other friends this evening.

Was IBU to say no? That I didn't want to take our large BBQ and gas bottle to their house and leave it with them?

@dotdashdashdash

LOL cheeky feckers! Grin

Puts me in mind of a couple - who used to live 5 doors from us - some years ago, who invited me and DH and DD - and about a dozen other neighbours, and a further 20 or so colleagues and extended family to her firework party/BBQ. She told everyone 'come along and just bring a few bits to eat, and drink, and some fireworks.'

When people enquired further, it turned out that she wanted people to bring fireworks, wine, beer, pop, crisps, nuts, sausage rolls, cupcakes, pringles, hot dog buns, hot dog sausages, and all manner of things.

So .... she was having the 'firework party' and only providing the music, paper plates, and little plastic cups. It cost me and DH around £45 with the fireworks, booze, and snacks we took!

God knows how much the other 30 or so people spent. But she had a big firework party/BBQ, and had all the guests provide the food, drink AND the bloody fireworks. Amazingly she then went on to post 50 or so pics on facebook, and totally took full credit for it all!

So much for being invited to a party... it cost us a load of £££. Especially as she only bloody asked us - and half the other people 1-2 days before. So the only damn fireworks left in the shops, were the more expensive ones.

Unbelievably cheeky, even more so the rejection of your coal BBQ. Do you know anyone who is attending the evening BBQ who can report back OP? Imagine having not one but two BBQs without actually having a BBQ in your possession Confused

Beeme29 · 11/04/2021 17:15

Not a chance. If they want a bbq they can buy their own!

dotdashdashdash · 11/04/2021 17:13

Some of these responses are hilarious, and are making me feel much better about saying no and not attending.

I'm usually really happy to lend stuff and help people out and as I said, had they asked prior, I'd probably have said yes but their snotty attitude when I said no pissed me off.

PuppyMonkey · 11/04/2021 17:11

They were having two BBQs on the same day?Hmm

CroutonsAvatar · 11/04/2021 17:10

I’d love to know how they came to the conclusion that this was an acceptable thing to ask. Hilarious!

HowManyToes · 11/04/2021 17:09

Cheeky fuckers!

Andylion · 11/04/2021 17:09

My neighbours had only moved in the month before when I received an invitation to a cookie baking party. Oh, and could they borrow my oven as they didn't have one.

WeatherwaxOn · 11/04/2021 17:09

Amazed that anyone thinks yabu

NewPapaGuinea · 11/04/2021 17:09

Hilarious! I’d love a TV show where these CF’s are invited on to explain their thought process

littlepattilou · 11/04/2021 17:06

@alltoomuchrightnow

This did make me chuckle It's like inviting you to a Christening Then asking you to bring the baby to be christened!
Grin
hapagirl · 11/04/2021 17:05

No way! BBQs are bloody messy things to transport as well. Tell them to get those disposable ones they sell at supermarkets if they’re desperate.

SheldonesqueHasTheWeevils · 11/04/2021 17:02

Bet they’ve got a right corn on the cob on now ..

Badoomtish Grin

LemonMeringueThreePointOneFour · 11/04/2021 17:01

So they wanted you to come with a barbecue rather than to a barbecue.

CFs, yes.

DeciduousPerennial · 11/04/2021 17:01

So you’d been invited to a pretend BBQ in order that they could procure your nice gas BBQ for free for the real BBQ later on that you are not actually invited to?

NothingIcando · 11/04/2021 17:00

The nerve of some people🤣 So many lunatics out there. How did you leave the conversation with them?

raincamepouringdown · 11/04/2021 16:59

Hilarious, really.

I'd have told them to nip over to Tesco or a like store and pick one up themselves.

But to be off with you about saying no? Cheeky fuckers.

ErniesGhostlyGoldTops · 11/04/2021 16:59

I would not bother with their friendship after this either. Cheeky Fuckery at it's finest.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 11/04/2021 16:56

Haahaa! No. CFers. I'd drop them for this given their response, too.

SheldonesqueHasTheWeevils · 11/04/2021 16:55

I'd made dessert and was providing some drinks as well. We'd pffered to take more.

Tea round your house tonight sounds delightful Wink
