to think it's really cheeky to invite someone to a BBQ then expect them to bring...

...The BBQ!?

We were invited last week to a friends today for a BBQ. They called this morning asking to borrow our BBQ, we assumed there's had broken or the one they ordered hadn't arrived etc - but no. They don't have one. So we suggested they come to ours and bring some of the stuff they'd bought as our BBQ is very heavy and large (won't fit in the car without removing the child seats and lying all seats flat) but it turns out, that not only did they want us to bring our BBQ, they wanted us to leave it at theirs as they are having other friends this evening.

Was IBU to say no? That I didn't want to take our large BBQ and gas bottle to their house and leave it with them?

@BottleFlipper

Glenda would unplug your life support to charge her phone when it's on 90%.

@dotdashdashdash You should share the article on fb 😂

dotdashdashdash · 15/04/2021 15:36

Yeah, no borrowing BBQs allowed in my manaaaar !!! (said in an EastEnders stylee)

Forgive the grammatical error, just come off a very long night shift!

@dotdashdashdash

I do wonder if they've seen it.

I do think that a request to a friend to borrow something is totally fine. It was the manor in which it was asked and the attitude that came with it that I had the issue with.

Watch out Glenda - the village wants its idiot back.

Lazy "journalism".
Just like quoting people's tweet or other social media.

Bet that quote won't make the Daily Fail.

Your mate sounds like the type of person to read the Daily Fail so hopefully she’s aware now. Would love to be a fly on the wall in their house today.

longwayoff · 15/04/2021 12:29

Anyone remember when journalists did actual work?

BonAmi45 · 15/04/2021 12:07

@dotdashdashdash that didn’t take long!

Cissyandflora · 14/04/2021 22:14

There once was a lady called Glenda,
Who’s grasp of good manners was slender,
She wanted a party-
not fancy, not arty-
Just some friends with a few things to lend her

FamBae · 14/04/2021 18:55

@HeyDemonsItsYaGirl

I'm another of the OP's friends and I can confirm she only brings top quality meat to BBQs. Last time it was venison hand-smoked by blind nuns. Glenda is just annoyed because her husband once said OP was a top bird.

The poetry is brilliant.

No, I don't think Glenda actually is my exfriend.

Je suis hotdog for the purposes of this thread.

I cannot be laureate sadly as I’m currently cherchez le charcoal. And le apron.

I’m not as fancy as Dot Wink

longwayoff · 14/04/2021 17:09

Thread of the year. It's only April but it won't be surpassed, the poetry tops everything. Recommend hotdog as Mumsnet Laureate.

Wauden · 14/04/2021 17:03

There once was a poster called Glenda
Who wanted to borrow a blender.
She put Dotdash in
And committed a sin
That cheeky old fucker called Glenda.

Glittertwins · 14/04/2021 16:42

It's the gift that keeps giving. The poetry is brilliant

My pottymouth knows not a cure

My presence is fleetin
And my odes you’ll no longer endure.

All done. Sorry.

I won’t pull a similar stunt
I’ve been on a barbecue hunt
You can all come round mine
My food is divine
Except Glenda, for she is a cu...

There once was a lady called Glenda
Who appears to have an agenda
She starts online feuds
Over farm foods
As.a friend I don't recommend her

Not quite 5*

ICanSeeYourHotDogGlenda · 14/04/2021 13:17

There once was a girl with some sass
Who wanted to party on grass
She had no grass grown
So asked for a loan
And quite frankly got told kiss my arse

The snags and the burgers were raw
The girl with the sass saw a flaw
She asked for the cooker
Got ‘piss off ye fooker’
‘You’ll just have to eat your coleslaw’.

The guests who were due on the night
Began wailing with all of their might
‘We’ve had fook all to eat’
‘This has not been a treat’
And Said ‘Glenda, your barbecue’s shite’
