to think it's really cheeky to invite someone to a BBQ then expect them to bring...

...The BBQ!?

We were invited last week to a friends today for a BBQ. They called this morning asking to borrow our BBQ, we assumed there's had broken or the one they ordered hadn't arrived etc - but no. They don't have one. So we suggested they come to ours and bring some of the stuff they'd bought as our BBQ is very heavy and large (won't fit in the car without removing the child seats and lying all seats flat) but it turns out, that not only did they want us to bring our BBQ, they wanted us to leave it at theirs as they are having other friends this evening.

Was IBU to say no? That I didn't want to take our large BBQ and gas bottle to their house and leave it with them?

I thought you were going to say burgers as well, which is fine. But not the bbq! And then to want you to leavd it there as they had "friends" coming over? Arent you their friends?

Very, very cheeky.

@arethereanyleftatall

Really surprised at the responses. This wouldn't have bothered me whatsoever. It doesn't really matter does it? Put the seats down, pop it in, off you go, and have a nice time.
And where would their two young children in rear-facing car seats go?

You honestly can’t see this would be a pain??

Brindisi32 · 11/04/2021 17:35

Hahaha! they'd planned bbqs with friends but didn't have one. And they still don't have one! And they've lost some friends in the process. What a shame, OP, they'll need to bum off somebody else.

Howshouldibehave · 11/04/2021 17:34

So lunch was today? Did you say no and not see them at all?

I wonder what they told their evening friends Grin

Honestly, some people! Who would invite people round to a BBQ when you didn’t actually own one!!?

Embracelife · 11/04/2021 17:33

So if you want rid of your charcal one offer them that one at a good price to keep.
Otherwise no carting of bbqs here Nd there

Wowyouareboring · 11/04/2021 17:32

Wtf that’s not even normal ! Defo say no to that one

3JsMa · 11/04/2021 17:32

Planning BBQ,inviting few friends but not having actual BBQHmm.
And a face palm.CF.

dotdashdashdash · 11/04/2021 17:31

@PuppyMonkey

They were having two BBQs on the same day?Hmm
Yes, us for lunch, other friends for dinner - I don't see an issue with this really what with the rule of 6/ 2 households thing. We've done similar last weekend.

I was thinking ‘Cf April 2021’ award goes to your ‘friends.’

PoutineQueen · 11/04/2021 17:30

So presumably they'd also want your gas canister?

You could have taken your bbq but not the gas, and told them they'd have to buy their own gas, which would be more expensive than buying a standard bbq.

Blacktothepink · 11/04/2021 17:30

Glad you didn’t go, the massive cf’s!

Moonwhite · 11/04/2021 17:30

Imagine if they hadn't told you the second part and you'd had a very odd "please leave now, but your bbq stays with us" conversation at 5pm...

NiceGerbil · 11/04/2021 17:29

That's really funny!

SwedishK · 11/04/2021 17:28

Haha, wow! That’s some cheek.

Iwantacookie · 11/04/2021 17:28

Seriously who invites someone to a bbq and asks them to bring the bbq! I wonder what they told their guests later Grin

Topseyt · 11/04/2021 17:27

Cheeky fuckers! That is like inviting someone to a dinner party and asking them to supply the cooker!

Glad you told them no. They should buy their own barbecue.

jessstan2 · 11/04/2021 17:26

How very odd and extremely cheeky.

Could they not afford to buy a barbecue for themselves? I've bought more than one, including two for my son, in my lifetime and they never broke the bank.

Argos sell several types and they deliver quickly.

Cissyandflora · 11/04/2021 17:25

Awful. Bad enough being asked to bring ALL of the food. That’s happened to me and I’ve dropped friends over it. I would absolutely ditch these friends if I were you.

Tinydinosaur · 11/04/2021 17:24

🤣 God does love a trier!

I take a drink the host likes and drinks we like. But I do always ask if they want me to bring anything, especially as I'm vegetarian.

Leeds2 · 11/04/2021 17:21

I wonder what will happen at the evening BBQ. Maybe those guests will be asked to bring theirs too!

safariboot · 11/04/2021 17:21

You (soon to be ex) 'friends' win the Cheeky Fuckers of 2021 Award.

the80sweregreat · 11/04/2021 17:20

Oh dear, the bbq has rusted up and doesn't work : sorry ! Maybe another time when you've bought your own one maybe?
Cheeky friends you have there!

LH1987 · 11/04/2021 17:20

Some people are just hilariously self entitled!

Hope you had a nice bbq at home instead!
