to think it's really cheeky to invite someone to a BBQ then expect them to bring...

...The BBQ!?

We were invited last week to a friends today for a BBQ. They called this morning asking to borrow our BBQ, we assumed there's had broken or the one they ordered hadn't arrived etc - but no. They don't have one. So we suggested they come to ours and bring some of the stuff they'd bought as our BBQ is very heavy and large (won't fit in the car without removing the child seats and lying all seats flat) but it turns out, that not only did they want us to bring our BBQ, they wanted us to leave it at theirs as they are having other friends this evening.

Was IBU to say no? That I didn't want to take our large BBQ and gas bottle to their house and leave it with them?

Thats so.....cheapskate of them...

MN need to add a new topic ‘Cheeky Fuckers’

cerealgamechanger · 11/04/2021 23:46

Ps. Since the relationship is dead now, I'm hoping your 'friend' comes on MN and finds this thread!

cerealgamechanger · 11/04/2021 23:46

So glad you held firm on not giving in. CFs

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 11/04/2021 23:19

Hope they're not arranging a swimming pool party next. 🤣🤣

Jesus, it's spring, if you enjoying having people around fir BBQ's -buy one!

Cheeky twats.

AnnaSW1 · 11/04/2021 23:17

Well done!

Freyaismyname · 11/04/2021 23:14

@KoalaOok

Ha! I thought this was going to be about being asked to bring meat or food. Not the actual BBQ! That's like going to a dinner party and being asked to bring the oven!
😂😂
DENMAN03 · 11/04/2021 23:11

It wouldn't bother me to be honest. It's not going to melt away.

caringcarer · 11/04/2021 23:11

I never know how people have such a nerve to do things like this. Once my sons friend asked if he wanted to go kayaking with him. Only he did not have any kayaks do had to use ours. He was 12 so we all thought it was funny. Including his parents who rang to apologise and explain.

SoEverybodyDance · 11/04/2021 23:01

We had friends who had a nice, neat portable barbecue in a hot country ... they and their barbecue were invited to every party in town and they went happily to all of them! Just reminded me really...

However, your friends are taking the piss.... just say no!

Gobbeldegook · 11/04/2021 22:53

I can't find it. I wonder if it was on the CF thread. Definitely rings a bell.

Gobbeldegook · 11/04/2021 22:44

I think this couple might have form for this, I'm sure I remember reading a post very similar last year? Surely there can't be two couples out there with such a high level of cheekyfuckery. I need to find the old post now 🤣

Bluntness100 · 11/04/2021 22:19

How did it end that you weren’t going at all? What happened on the call?

queenofthenorthwest · 11/04/2021 22:16

@Changingwiththetimes

At the very least they should have said they would pick it up, then clean it after use and return it! Ridiculous to ask you last minute then expect you to make two round trips.
They were prob expecting it wasn't worth the hassle and would say every weekend "can we just keep it one more weekend"

These fuckers have no shame it appears.

HedgePutty · 11/04/2021 22:06

Well done on saying no, checkers fuckers!
Sorry but you were only invited for your BBQ if they turned down the coal one. And they didn’t even offer to come and collect it and expected you to do 2 journeys with your kids? Sorry but they aren’t your friends.

the food was fabulous but kitchen looked like a bad day on the Somme. 'Don't worry, I'll send a couple of the lads round in the mroning!'

Did he??!

Mrgrinch · 11/04/2021 22:00

Imagine inviting people to a BBQ when you don't have a BBQ.

queenofthenorthwest · 11/04/2021 21:59

I wonder if they went and bought a Bbq though

BlueDahlia69 · 11/04/2021 21:56

OP Im glad you said No ☺️

JudgeJ · 11/04/2021 21:35

@Duggeehugs82

When we first moved into our home we got invited to a bbq by a phone call in the morning and they then asked if we could host , it was work friend who was staying with friends and had invited some work friends they hadnt seen for while we all know each other, he obviously was being cheeky but we was happy to host as long as he provided his cooking skills and some food 😁
When we were working with the military a couple asked if they could use our flat for a dinner party, they both lived in a Mess. He invited people 8 for 8.30 and sent all the food round in the afternoon, he'd come and cook it in the evening, he was a chef. Half seven no sign of him, he rolled up at 7.45 and we did eat at 8.30, he was like a whirlwind, the food was fabulous but kitchen looked like a bad day on the Somme. 'Don't worry, I'll send a couple of the lads round in the mroning!'
GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 11/04/2021 21:33

That’s the maddest thing ever! How could they ever have thought that was reasonable?

osbertthesyrianhamster · 11/04/2021 21:27

Bring me your BBQ, delivery, with fuel, bring stuff to put on it, then fuck off.

Yeah, right! This is hilarious!

I have an expensive BBQ and smoker. I spent ages saving up for both. I love having people over. I have an SUV.

The fuck I'd ever loan them out, deliver them, then fuck off.

kittycorner · 11/04/2021 21:24

Good for you for saying no OP. I have a friend like that and she's done something very similar to me and other friends. I rarely say no but have started trying in small ways.

CarrieCat · 11/04/2021 21:24

I've not seen that but there's a Cadging Carol in the Royle Family

JudgeJ · 11/04/2021 21:18

@CarrieCat

Reminds me of Cadging Carol from the Royle Family.
Is that not the Scottish programme Two Doors Down?
