@PolkadotsAndMoonbeams I too once wore some off white jeans with long black boots & a long length velvet black jacket - so far so chic - ( thought I ) until I went out and Dh said - have you forgotten your hard hat. Grin ( the white shirt and white silk scarf should probably have given me a clue Blush

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 21/01/2021 19:26

Actually, I've just come out in a cold sweat remembering a pair of cream skinny jeans.

I had a lovely longline navy jacket, that I wore with the jeans and long black leather boots. DF told me I looked like I'd lost my horse on the way to a showjumping competition.

I did the same thing later in the year university — not with the coat, but the same jeans and a maroon jumper. The boys sitting behind me in the lecture kept making clip-clop noises.

WTF99 · 21/01/2021 19:22

@Shamefulcorners

I bought some fingerless gloves and a matching beret thinking I would look artistic and interesting - I didn't anticipate the effect would be so instantly ageing - dh said I should be manning a bric-a-brac stand selling knitted loo roll covers.
This is hilarious Grin

Emperor Palpatine Grin

When I was in my twenties, my flatmate and I wore the same dress size, so occasionally used to lend each other clothes for dates or events. It was great until the day I tried to borrow a burgundy sheath dress for a works do. We were the same size, but of quite different...distributions.

On her it looked very smart and professional. I looked like Jessica Rabbit's brunette sister had decided to try office work.

(I did later wear it to go on a date. Blush)

I think I have said it at least twice now - but Memo to Self - read the small print - "Model is 6'3" and a size 6 - I am not . Does it surprise me when things don't look the same - Ha ha ha I need to write this out and put a label on my computer to remind me . Grin

BasiliskStare · 21/01/2021 15:56

@CrapRedDress & Also @ErrolTheDragon - yes that is funny - your face looks like a moving mask of horror - but to be honest - you look better in it than I would have done. Flowers

ErrolTheDragon · 21/01/2021 15:46

The look on your face is priceless, CrapRedDressGrin

Ddot - i looked like swan vesta match

Oh another huge laugh - thank you @Ddot

Haggisfish · 21/01/2021 12:09

I bought a lovely drapey hooded white top and thought I looked a little like kylie minogue in spinning around. I put the hood up to demonstrate this to the class I was teaching and, before I had chance to say anything, a girl said ‘oooh miss, you look like et!’.

Cosyjimjamsforautumn · 21/01/2021 11:45

Shameless placemarking as this thread has made my day/week Grin

RustyBear · 21/01/2021 09:42

I bought a black hooded coat once, thinking I'd look like the woman in the Scottish Widows ads.

I looked like Emperor Palpatine.

@CrapRedDress

A few years ago... Big night out for my birthday. Second time 'out out' in 3 years with friends & DH. Ordered below dress online (IN THE RIGHT BLOODY SIZE) thinking with my hair done, nice make up I would look chic & elegant. DH would be taken aback & reminded of the glamorous & intelligent woman he had married rather than the milk squirting, panda eyed grumpy snack snuffling beast I had become.

Nope it arrived & I looked like someone had bound down my tits with velvet & then encased me in a velvet sausage skin. Unsurprisingly it was returned.

I have this horror whenever I buy from eBay sellers - the sizes are so far out!

Ddot · 21/01/2021 09:01

Velvet is a hard fabric to carry off, I'm small and look like a chunky monkey init

You could try a nice bright scarf with it.
May work, may not

Nicolastuffedone · 21/01/2021 06:18

Put a black belt round it, you’ll never get any hassle ever again

ErrolTheDragon · 20/01/2021 23:44

One of the reviews says the belt is too long. Duh, that's so you can put a fancy knot in it. (Actually it's way too short)

ErrolTheDragon · 20/01/2021 23:40

[quote tigerbear]It’s this one.
It’s so going to look like a dressing gown, isn’t it? 😩

Only if you're very short.
Otherwise, yep, it's a winter-weight gi.

tigerbear · 20/01/2021 23:36

@Blowingagale @Veterinari @SlatternIsMyMiddleName I’ll report back once it arrives.
The model is prob around 6ft, and I’m about a foot shorter, so no doubt it’ll look ridiculous!!

Blowingagale · 20/01/2021 23:10

@tigerbear agree Veterinari more a martial arts look, but the model carries it off so you never know...
