I bought a white coat in the sales to look like Olivia Pope, but I actually resemble a middle aged taekwando instructor

I also bought a white trilby for a holiday, I looked like a bloody fishmonger.

I'd rather look like a middle-aged tae kwondo instructor than one of these guys though! Smile

I feel your pain OP, I frequently buy things imagining they will turn into a tall willowy person by some form of witchcraft. I never seem to remember that I’m a pear shape with tiny legs until I have them on!

Oh dear. any wool coat I buy with a tie belt looks like a dressing gown on me.

I did buy a grey dark boilersuit but I look like a mechanic in it.

I bought a white coat once and looked like a lab assistant. My father kept asking where was my Bunsen Burner. Cruel but fair.

I'm sorry it didn't work out op, but your thread title really cheered me up! Grin

I decided to make myself a maxi dress with some floral fabric and a pattern off the front of a dressmaking magazine....I looked like Laura Ingalls from Little House On The Prairie.

Purplethrow · 16/01/2021 22:51

Ah the old expectation vs reality trap!

Did the same with a green satin dress with a ruff round the collar. Expectation was cool elegance - reality was Hissing Sid who’d swallowed a dinner plate Grin

I bought a long white cardigan today, picturing myself spanning about with it over a swish tea dress in warm summer Spainish evenings.

However it looks like I should be working in a lab or I have escaped from a health spa.

Plus I have four kids so it will be stained very soon

Sympathies

FlibbertyGiblets · 16/01/2021 22:49

Oh that is a bummer.

I bought a hi low top but basically the cutaway showed off my stupid apple tum. I looked like Tweedledum. Lovely!

You’d never be able to drink huge glasses of red wine without spilling it on yourself though.

Life is so unfair.

I remember when we were teenagers my sister begged for a white coat, it was kind of thigh length and had big square pockets. She wore it in public, ran into a boy from school and gained the nickname 'Prof' for about two years afterwards. (it was around the time of Back to the Future).

I feel your pain.

My friend once lent me her lovely, stylish white coat but it looked like a bathrobe on me 😥
