I bought a white coat in the sales to look like Olivia Pope, but I actually resemble a middle aged taekwando instructor

Seems ageist to me. Don't find it as thigh slappingly hilarious as others.

🤣

We need to have a "Best Thread Titles" MN category

@proudpeacock that classics thread still makes me laugh. ( As does the OP and indeed the fishmonger tonight.) 'Bloody hell it's Colonel Gaddafi' 😂😂😂 please can someone not on their mobile link to it? Could do with cheering up on Saturday night lockdown.

MustardMitt · 16/01/2021 23:44

@MLMsuperfan

What's wrong with being middle aged? Or a martial arts instructor?
God there's always one

Nothing at all wrong with those things but I expect OP was probably going for something a little different!

Positivevibesonlyplease · 16/01/2021 23:42

I mean Grin

Positivevibesonlyplease · 16/01/2021 23:42

@Proudpeacock

There is a marvellous thread in Classics on this very subject. Search for Suzi Quatro's fat nan.

I had a lovely (in my view) long white over shirt that went with anything and hid the bulges in summer. Wafting through the playground one lad said "Hi Miss, I always think you are a lab technician when you wear that"

Lost its appeal somehow

NovemberR · 16/01/2021 23:37

Brilliant title! Some brilliant comments.

I do think magazines/internet sites should be banned from showing pictures of celebs in lovely clothes unless they also display a photo of a 53 year old, size 18, 5ft 2in, woman with no make up and jowls like a basset hound wearing the same garment.

It needs the subtitle this is what it will look like on you, Janet next to it.

PoppiesinOctober · 16/01/2021 23:36

I bought some new curling tongs the other day, thinking i'd do some really lovely, 50's pinup hairstyles.

Instead, I looked like i'd been dragged through a hedge backwards.

LadyJaye · 16/01/2021 23:33

I bought a kimono-style 'throwover', thinking I'd look fancy.

In reality, I look like an overly exuberant laboratory assistant.

CrystalTits · 16/01/2021 23:30

My BIL bought me a (half price in the Boxing Day sales) white beanie hat from FatFace for Christmas a couple of years ago. I looked like I’d just been let out of hospital after neurosurgery Grin

Knittedfairies · 16/01/2021 23:28

I look remarkably similar to a hot water cylinder when I wear a puffer jacket.

LaMarschallin · 16/01/2021 23:21

wellthatsunusual

I remember when we were teenagers my sister begged for a white coat, it was kind of thigh length and had big square pockets. She wore it in public, ran into a boy from school and gained the nickname 'Prof' for about two years afterwards.

I lived in South America for a couple of years when I was a teenager.
When it was time to come back to the UK in November, we realised we didn't have any warm clothes. So we just had to get what was available.

I only wore that bloody Peruvian poncho once into town (to buy nice, normal winter clothes), and was tormented by cries of "Howdy, Clint!" until I left for sixth form college.

Rainbowandscarlett · 16/01/2021 23:17

I once bought a beige trench coat as glamour magazine kept banging on about it being a ‘classic wardrobe staple’

I looked like inspector gadget

bluecheesefan · 16/01/2021 23:17

I had a big white padded winter coat once. I looked like the Michelin Man in it.

NoEffingWay · 16/01/2021 23:11

Best laugh i've had in ages op Grin

BadlydoneHelen · 16/01/2021 23:08

The fishmonger's trilby has really made me laugh!

Rainbowandscarlett · 16/01/2021 23:08

I once bought a beautiful pink dress with pale cream spots

My partner told me I looked like mr blobbys nana

Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel · 16/01/2021 23:06

Oh OP , that thread title really made me laugh, thank you! Sorry though Grin

Sittinbythetree · 16/01/2021 23:06

Commiserations OP. I once bought a dress and looked like Grumio. Thanks Boden.

SheeshazAZ09 · 16/01/2021 23:02

White coats are a nightmare. Years ago I bought one and on the first wearing I had to put oil in our ancient car. You guessed it, I managed to get black oil on it and then trapped it as I closed the bonnet, which cut a slash in it. Even the charity shops wouldn’t take it. Couple of hundred quid down the drain. Never again.

Maireas · 16/01/2021 23:00

I don't have the face for hats either. I once bought a beret thinking I'd look chic and rive gauche, but I looked like the world's oldest Brownie.

Proudpeacock · 16/01/2021 22:59

DollyMixtureLulus · 16/01/2021 22:56

I also bought a white trilby for a holiday, I looked like a bloody fishmonger.

Grin

I can't wear hats. I would really like to, but I do not have the face for it.
