I bought a white coat in the sales to look like Olivia Pope, but I actually resemble a middle aged taekwando instructor

Good work MLMsuperfan please contact your named Fun Sponge supervisor so they can direct you to your next thread 😂

I feel your pain OP, I bought a very cool pair of cropped dungarees this summer - sadly they made me look like a Tellytubby rather than an insouciant French artist type, which was more what I was aiming for..

lowbudgetnigella · 17/01/2021 00:27

Loving this. Fishmonger and putting the mats out properly made me laugh.

wellthatsunusual · 17/01/2021 00:26

@MLMsuperfan

If there's nothing wrong with looking middle aged why is it such an effective punchline to a joke?
Because the joke is about perception, not about being middle aged. The joke is about how we imagine we look compared to how we actually look. It is often used in reverse, when we look back and reminisce at our favourite outfit at the age of 14 and realise that it didn't give the air of sophistication that we thought it did.

Crying with laughter, thank you all for the hilarity on a Saturday night!

@Purplethrow

I also bought a white trilby for a holiday, I looked like a bloody fishmonger.
This has made me laugh more than I have in a long time Grin

Can the token atmosphere hoover please sod off preferably to the dreaded CV area with all the other misery guts

I'm middle aged and found it funny too. Nothing wrong with looking middle aged, I certainly do. But sometimes it's not the look I'm going for.

Howsrainbows · 17/01/2021 00:20

I bought a pair of wide legged floral trousers that I teamed with a white tshirt, Cant lie I thought I looked great.
Wore it for the school run and my kid asked me why I was wearing my pyjamas to pick him up 😳

As the saying goes it's only a joke if everyone is laughing. A joke at others' expense may not be so kind.

What utter bollocks!

And yes, I'm middle aged

NovemberR · 17/01/2021 00:17

Stay and be offended then! GrinThe rest of us all found it hilarious. It's bizarre to remain on a thread that doesn't amuse you, but crack on. Confused

mrspuddleduckreturns · 17/01/2021 00:16

Back in the day my mum once made me a white jacket. I loved it.
Wore it to school and a boy thought it was a pottery apron. Next thing I know it's covered in clay.
I was distraught. 😢😢😢
Anything white is dangerous.

umpteennamechanges · 17/01/2021 00:14

I tried on a vintage brown fur cape with my wedding dress to recreate the stunning, ethereal look of a photo on Pinterest.

Looked like Henry the fucking VIII Angry

I looked like the world's oldest Brownie.

Grin Love that. I know exactly what you mean.

MLMsuperfan · 17/01/2021 00:12

No I won't move along. Sorry. You move on.

NovemberR · 17/01/2021 00:09

I'm middle aged and thought it was funny too.

Move along if you don't.

I assumed that the OP is middle aged,* but wished to look like a glamorous and sophisticated middle aged woman and not someone on their way to get the mats out at the local martial arts centre.

I'm middle aged and I thought it was funny.

*Sorry, OP, if I've misunderstood.

DustyMaiden · 17/01/2021 00:04

I bought an olive trench coat and looked liked Vera.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 16/01/2021 23:58

Oh stop it @MLMsuperfan with the bloody "ageist" crap!!! OP was going for a certain look and didn't achieve it. She achieved a look she isn't happy with and it is NOT your place to decide what sort of look anyone should want.

Unless you're joking.

sunnysidegold · 16/01/2021 23:58

I love your title!! And it reminded me of the Suzi Quattro's fat nan thread too! Someone on it said they had a haircut....a pixie cut dyed (?) Red....they looked like a match.

I'm going to read that thread now.

I too bought a trench coat....thinking effortless chic.

Housemates used to always say "here comes Colombo" every time I wore it.

Which was not often after that.

MrsRockAndRoll · 16/01/2021 23:57

@torthecatlady

I'd rather look like a middle-aged tae kwondo instructor than one of these guys though! Smile
😂👍👏🏻
Robinkitty · 16/01/2021 23:57

I had a lovely pink coat I liked very much until it rained and cast dark circles on my coat and then I too looked liked mr blobby.
