I bought a white coat in the sales to look like Olivia Pope, but I actually resemble a middle aged taekwando instructor

I am cracking up at this thread!

I love dungarees. So comfy. I wanted to look hip, boho and effortlessy cool.

Move over Jimmy Krankie, there's a new girl in town.

(I'm fat, middle aged and not an "older person" thank you @MLMsuperfan, and blimey your name is just perfect for you)

Ticketybooboo · 17/01/2021 13:22

I'm here for the title which made me chuckle.

NoJetter · 17/01/2021 13:18

Absolutely loving this thread. My contribution is I bought a knitted loungewear set thinking I’d look elegant yet cosy like the model. I look like a fucking pink teletubby.

Nothing wrong with taekwondo instructors. Gold medals for team GB remember!

Kumquatsquash · 17/01/2021 13:08

After losing 3 stone last summer I celebrated by ordering some white shorts and a blue milkmaid top with puffy sleeves to channel a boho/free spirit/festival vibe. In reality I looked like an adult baby.

Nanasueathome · 17/01/2021 13:04

@habibihabibi

I wore a very expensive silk spotty dress to a chic city wedding. Outside the chapel the tiniest flowergirl pointed and shreaked with joy " Mummy , Mummy ,Mummy, it's ,it's , its .....Mr Tumble ".
I’m just reading through these now This one is som so funny

@Purplethrow

Ah the old expectation vs reality trap!

Did the same with a green satin dress with a ruff round the collar. Expectation was cool elegance - reality was Hissing Sid who’d swallowed a dinner plate Grin

Crying with laughter!!!!

@MLMsuperfan

As the saying goes it's only a joke if everyone is laughing. A joke at others' expense may not be so kind.

I imagine the majority of us on this thread are middle aged!

Sallycinnamum · 17/01/2021 12:50

I fell for the boiler suit hype also. I've only worn it once to my friend's house for her husband to say have you come over the bleed the radiators?

It went in the charity shop bag soon afterwards.

MrsGrindah · 17/01/2021 12:46

The thing I’m loving about this thread is the dry put-downs from all of our beloved relatives.

MrsGrindah · 17/01/2021 12:44

I bought some black coated jeans that I wore with a cream blouse on Xmas day. DH said. “ Oh I didn’t realised they’d reopened the pantos for Christmas!”

Middleagedmidwife · 17/01/2021 12:39

I bought a faux fur teddy coat last winter as someone at work had one and it looked great. My husband said I looked like the bear from Bo selecta! It was returned immediately.

BigRedBoat · 17/01/2021 12:36

When I was a young teen sportswear was all the rage, I finally got a long coveted umbro coat and was too embarrassed to admit that my dad was right in his observation that I looked like a football manager at the side of the pitch during a game 🙈.

I also rocked burgundy mid heel knee high boots with black jeans tucked in and a stripy top to work once, my colleague pointed out I was dressed as a pirate 😳

Foundmyfeet · 17/01/2021 12:17

This post makes me LOL! Thanks for cheering me up!

DollyMixtureLulus · 17/01/2021 12:13

An actual super fan in full fancy dress with green face paint tapped me on the arm in the interval to say she loved the coat and ask where it was from

thanks for the explanation up thread. Unsurprisingly the coat looks pretty daft on the actress - sleeves too long, belt in a kindergarten knot, lapels you could hang glide with and obviously completely impractical. So I wouldn't worry too much.

Ukholidaysaregreat · 17/01/2021 12:10

O I loved Hamble!

ssd · 17/01/2021 12:08

I've stopped cutting my own fringe after dh told me I looked like hamble from playschool....

Purplecatshopaholic · 17/01/2021 12:06

I have some lovely velvet joggers that I live in at the moment. The plan was to look all cool, relaxed and insouciant. The reality is, every time my ‘d’bf sees them he asks where my 40 thieves are.....

VienneseWhirligig · 17/01/2021 12:05

I have a beautiful blue silk sailor dress that I love. My dad hums the bloody Sailor's Hornpipe every time he sees me in it.

SingleHandSue · 17/01/2021 12:05

I once went to a family do wearing a gorgeous new floaty black top, skinnies and leopard print accessories. My hair had been done and I felt fab.

I thought I looked like Carla Conner from Coronation street.

Looking back at photos I looked more like Kat Slater.
