I bought a white coat in the sales to look like Olivia Pope, but I actually resemble a middle aged taekwando instructor

One of my friends who's an extremely beautiful and thin model/actress owns a tight-fitting denim boiler suit. She looks like she's about to model for Vogue.

The same garment, on me?

Sexually confused plumber.

rosetylersbiggun · 18/01/2021 03:02

I'm young, thus my white coat doesn't make me look like a middle aged tae kwando instructor.

It makes me look like the cartoon polar bear from the Coke Christmas ads.

Miljea · 18/01/2021 00:16

@Cherryup

I treated myself to a cool pair of tan ruched fabric trainers, wore them to work, my boss said it looked like I had scotums on my feet.

Sold them on eBay.

Picture, please.

How can trainers look like scrotums?

We need to judge know.

😂

Miljea · 18/01/2021 00:06

@IceIceCoffee

My baby has a yellow sleep suit with light pink spots , I love it but after reading this I’ve looked with a more critical eye and she looks like mr blobby

Just caught up from where this was written.

Want to say you've made me proper laugh again. 'With a critical eye'.

Am loving the funny sweetness of that!

You'll smile every time, now!

MrsBobDylan · 17/01/2021 23:49

Terry Venables and a fig roll...I am crying.

MrsBobDylan · 17/01/2021 23:45

I bought a pair of white dungarees from Jigsaw a few years back and I probably don't need to say I looked like a painter and decorator on my first job.

Just before Xmas I bought. Large brown fleece teddy coat with a bit of leather trim. I looked like a big turd.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/01/2021 23:45

Surely you mean vulva hair WinkGrin

Thisbastardcomputer · 17/01/2021 23:38

My friend bought a beautiful shaggy sort of sheepskin scarf, in grey, trouble was she used to have it tucked into her jacket, so the ends just peaked out of the bottom, looking like unkempt fanny hair.

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/01/2021 23:37

Omg a fig roll Grin

LucyLime · 17/01/2021 23:33

@70isaLimitNotaTarget 'DD and I were trying on hats (when it was allowed)
She looked quirky, cute, studenty ,elfin
I looked like Nerys Hughes in The District Nurse '

The above is what has just about finished me off

LucyLime · 17/01/2021 23:29

I've had to stop reading the thread for the night because my husband is asleep next to me and has an early start in the morning. I literally keep snorting with laughter and disturbing him

TheMildManneredMilitant · 17/01/2021 23:17

Huge fluffy mohair coat. I thought it would be instant glam. Reality was Honey Monster in drag.

viewsoftheshard · 17/01/2021 23:13

I decided to mix up my usual boring work outfits (I worked in financial services) with a new white unusual styled blouse from Cos, teaming it with stone coloured trousers and some pinkish leather trainers. Really enjoyed wearing something different to the usual dresses and suits. Then all day at work I had people coming over to me laughing and asking if I was the new physio, the dentist etc. The final straw was when I came home and my 3 year old looked at me puzzled and asked if I was a doctor now? The top went on eBay!

Purplethrow · 17/01/2021 22:50

Fck me its Terry Venables*
Grin

Capetownmothercity · 17/01/2021 22:47

I broke the budget and bought ex partner a beautiful pure cashmere navy db overcoat for his newish posh job. He was greeted with
"F*ck me its Terry Venables" from his boss.
He threw the coat away that very day.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 17/01/2021 22:35

Brilliant thread. My friend was asking me if I knew some guy I asked what he looked like and was met with "he looks like a fig roll"Confused
When I finally met him he was wearing cream trousers, beige jacket, way too much fake tan and did indeed look like a fig rollGrin

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 17/01/2021 22:28

Spat my tea out laughing at the title sorry Grin

ketosavedmylife · 17/01/2021 22:24

@Popetthetreehugger

Just before Christmas DH asked if I’d like a long walking coat .( think dry as a bone calf length , but cheaper ) .. lovely. Would I like black ? No thanks as will show marks ... I’ll go for the plumb please .. little did I know that he was buying one for himself too ! He got us matching poo brown coats ... every bloody day we go on our lockdown walk , Not only am I a ringer for Vera but I know we look like Howard and Hilda ! The kids couldn’t stop laughing and called us # relationship goals !
Hehehe Grin, Me and DH bought each other Barbour coats for our Christmas and I waited until he had chosen his (green) before I chose a blue one. No way was I getting the same colour!
ketosavedmylife · 17/01/2021 22:16

It's optimism. It's the same reason I bought the deep green, sequinned dress I found in my size on the sale rail in Debenham for £6 a couple of 'Christmas party' seasons ago when everyone else's party dresses were more exciting and classy than mine

I honestly thought/hoped that, with the application of some control undies, it would look flattering on me

I look like one of those short, stubby egg-eating snakes with a wig on

I think I recognise that dress, @Gliblet. I loved the colour but didn't think I could carry it off ]grin].

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/01/2021 21:30

Twat ffs!

IHaveBrilloHair · 17/01/2021 21:27

Hahaha @MrsBennetsSecretSon
I wore combats in about 2005 when I went out for coffee with my Dad.
He asked if I was away to fight in the Gulf.

He was 85 at the time.
Even my elderly Dad knew I looked like a that.

HermioneWeasley · 17/01/2021 21:24

I bought one of these caped blazers thinking I’d look cool and modern. All I can tell you is there is no styling of them that works for a matronly bosom - it just looked like I’d got an awkward frame for my boobs. donated it without ever wearing it!

I bought a white coat in the sales to look like Olivia Pope, but I actually resemble a middle aged taekwando instructor
rockingthelook · 17/01/2021 21:24

Decided to explore different colours for my outfits, bought an orange boxy jacket for a works do and just looked like a space hopper ..
Back in the 80's bought a bright floral dress for friend's wedding, also lovely bright pink stilettos to match, think trotters ( we all had matching bags and shoes didn't we??!!)

MrsRockAndRoll · 17/01/2021 21:13
@sofiaaaaaa - I just assumed everybody wanted to grow up to be a bit like Olivia Pope - beautiful, super in control, able not to spill red wine all over her cream cashmere loungewear... maybe slightly less murderous colleagues and family, and a slightly more simple love life would work too.
I would love to be like Olivia!

ketosavedmylife · 17/01/2021 20:32

Thanks OP, this thread has thoroughly cheered me up, lots of loud giggling going on here.

When I started my first job (70's) and got my own wage I bought a fake fur full length coat thinking I would look so sophisticated. My dad looked at me when I swished into the house and asked "who is this, Gloria the gorilla?" Bastard! Grin
