DH has come to tell me the DW didn't run properly last night so we're going to have to manage without cups today.

The man has a busy important job Confused

Get A cleaner. That will solve most of life's problems.

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 12/12/2020 15:21

filling the dishwasher and not starting it is my party trick...the one we have at has a dial to set the programme and an on off button AND a fecking start button. Guess who repeatedly forgets to press the start button ....it sits there all night poised with its lights on, waiting....for my disappointment in the morning.
I probably do this a few times a month!

I have a mortal fear of not having enough cups or crockery in general....I did have 16 of everything*, but breakages occurred and I am getting twitchy only have 8 dinner plates. But since there's only three of here full time now I am just about coping.

*random cups and mugs not included.

SquirrelFan · 12/12/2020 15:10

@whinetime89 was it espresso?

whinetime89 · 12/12/2020 15:04

You could do what my ex FIL did when staying with us and we ran out... he just used our ramekins as a coffee cup instead 🤦‍♀️

LadyHedgehog · 12/12/2020 14:59

Dishwasher is an attended appliance and should not be run overnight, according to manufacturers and the fire brigade.

draughtycatflap · 12/12/2020 14:57

Did your husband inform you of this calamity while sipping coffee from his penis beaker?

Alfr · 12/12/2020 14:53

@CallmeAngelina

"n our house, whoever puts in the last plate/cup etc that fills it to capacity switches it on." You clearly haven't met my children. They fill it to capacity and then don't switch it on. Angry
Your children fill the dishwasher? They are angels, and I'd like to swap
StationView · 12/12/2020 14:51

Re those asking about dishwasher schedules, mine always goes on overnight because of Economy 7 electricity. Same with the laundry. Bloody villages with no gas....

Barmyfarmy · 12/12/2020 14:49

@ememem84

Dh said this to me once. He uses a seperate cup for each cup of tea.I don’t. I tend to just rinse mine out. The last time it happened I made him tea in a gravy boat.
I hope there were remnant of Bisto in there Grin
Bvop · 12/12/2020 14:44

DH likes to observe, as he finishes the brand of breakfast cereal that only he eats, that the box is empty. And I like to say that perhaps he could observe when the box is half full so I can add it too the shopping list. But this is a task not suited to superior DH brain power, so it doesn’t happen, and so poor DH has to put himself out and go to the shops because his DW is simply not bothered to check his serial box every day. You see, mn-ers, I am simply not a very good wife, as I have not given sufficient priority to this task in addition to doing all the cleaning, washing, cooking and childcare and being the major wage earner. I do feel for the OP’s DH who has a similarly defective DW.

borntobequiet · 12/12/2020 14:44

Has he thought of going into politics?

He certainly seems to have the right sort of forward planning skills required for high office.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 12/12/2020 14:44

Oh, I do 'the lightbulb is out in the hall' thing, because I have shoulder issues and can't reach over my head enough to be able to change it. I do try to rephrase it as"'when you have time would you mind changing the lightbulb" because it's more direct, but I don't always remember.

AcrossthePond55 · 12/12/2020 14:39

My standard response to my DH (or sons when they were young) when they 'bring' me this type of problem is "Yes.....and?" with a head tilt and quizzical furrowed forehead. It usually resulted in them slinking off to do whatever it is themselves.

I started doing it back. As in "The car is almost on empty" or "The lightbulb is out in the hall". Drives DH nuts because he knows exactly why I do it. Xmas Grin

gotyerhat · 12/12/2020 14:36

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar I found myself doing this last week. I dropped a jar in the supermarket which smashed all over the floor and my feet. I said to the assistant "could you help me, this jar got smashed when it was dropped". Fuck knows where that came from Blush

whichwallywhere · 12/12/2020 14:34

Send him out shopping with a very, very specific description of the only acceptable type of cups to buy, the more esoteric the better.

pandora206 · 12/12/2020 14:33

That's his Xmas present sorted then!

AdoraBell · 12/12/2020 14:31

Do you have a dog? If not I will lend him a dog bowl. I’m sure my dogs won’t mind.

TroysMammy · 12/12/2020 14:30

You really should keep a couple of empty jam jars in the house in case of disasters like this.

AgathaChristiesFurcoat · 12/12/2020 14:29

Thanks you reminded me to go do the washing upGrin

CallmeAngelina · 12/12/2020 14:28

MaryLeeOnHigh · 12/12/2020 14:26

You have a dishwasher schedule??? In our house, whoever puts in the last plate/cup etc that fills it to capacity switches it on.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 12/12/2020 14:24

I'm also interested in the dishwasher schedule, if it didn't run properly then presumably you can't empty it so how are you going to fit all of today's cutlery and crockery? We run our dishwasher when it's full, so usually just after a meal. If it didn't work properly for some reason then we'd have to put it on again as soon as we realised because there just wouldn't be room for any more dirty stuff.

SonjaMorgan · 12/12/2020 14:22

I don't take milk and use the same cup for weeks. The only reason I get a new one is if the current one is left upstairs in my office as I am too lazy to fetch it.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 12/12/2020 14:22

I know that whenever DH uses the passive tense it means that whatever it is is his fault. So my coffee carafe disappeared and I asked if he'd seen it and he said "it got broken" and I knew it was him as otherwise he would have named the culprit, eg "DS broke it".

So, "the dishwasher didn't run" would mean that he put it on but then didn't close the door properly or something.

I generally let it slide as I know that his Mum was big on assigning blame and would get cross so his natural instinct is to deflect blame wherever possible.

FlamedToACrisp · 12/12/2020 14:21

Always a clean cup, because they have sludge in from our cheapo teabags.
