I know this is a first world problem, but if anyone can offer any cunning solution to aid me try and get into these jars I would be most grateful. I have tried the usual techniques, tapping lid on floor, even took a hammer to one in a fit of pique. Nothing. Nothing at all...gah!

Grin Attempt number one will be made at approximately 9.30am, after churros (I have a churros maker).

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 17/07/2020 18:20

is it open yet??

pics and a video please, this is almost more exciting than a pus filled spot thread!

Coldhandscoldheart · 17/07/2020 18:19

I’m glad I didn’t see the thread last week, only just read through & am suddenly hugely invested! I can’t believe you’re making me wait til tomorrow!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 17/07/2020 18:19

Grin I do sometimes wonder if Ocado Jesus has any idea he was briefly a MN legend (and now lives on, in me).

Neil tut tut, write out 100 times 'I must RTFT' and no tuna for you for 3 weeks.

Quietly confident Cake, thank you. I'm currently in training by drinking beer and eating crisps.

Gooseygoosey12345 · 17/07/2020 18:18

I'm overly invested in this...

@JesusInTheCabbageVan @Taranta amazing! Eagerly awaiting further updates Grin

thenightsky · 17/07/2020 18:13

This is like the old days of MN community spirit! Grin

PS: I keep an adjustable wrench for lids and sparkling wine corks.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 17/07/2020 18:13

I should have RTHT

Cakeismyhero · 17/07/2020 18:11

Good luck Jesus! Hope you manage to.open it (blatant place mark for the outcome!) Grin

Neilsfavouritechilli · 17/07/2020 18:10

Corkscrew the lid, pop the seal, done!

SoupDragon · 17/07/2020 18:10

Did Jesus deliver it in his cabbage van?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 17/07/2020 18:08

*Big bag, not bit bag.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 17/07/2020 18:07

IT'S HERE!

For those of you who only read the first page, @Taranta has kindly posted me one of the jars, because let's face it we're all bored right now Grin She also very kindly made DS' day by including a bit bag of Haribo Flowers

Sooooo, HERE is the jar, along with one of my formidable weapons. For now I will content myself with menacing the jar. Tomorrow I will commence the attack, and when (not if) I am successful, DS will have ultra posh tuna pasta bake for lunch.

@Taranta I forgot to ask - would you like me to send you a couple of tins of tuna in return, if you still have a shortage? PM me your address if so Wine

I usually stab the top with a sharp knife and make a hole. Works 9.5/10 times. You do have to be very careful though, for obvious reasons. If not, running it under the hot tap also works.

Cherrytangfastic · 12/07/2020 10:53

Grip the lid with sandpaper, never fails!

FiveShelties · 12/07/2020 09:51

Another recommendation for the Jarkey, they are brilliant, really cheap too.

IamMaz · 12/07/2020 09:48

Lift the rim with an old fashioned tin opener - a pierce one like for evaporated milk?

TheFaerieQueene · 12/07/2020 09:47

Boiling water. It causes the metal in the lid to expand slightly and it will twist off. It never fails.

rainbowstardrops · 12/07/2020 09:46

Sliding the point of a knife just under the lid to pop the seal works every time for me

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 12/07/2020 09:38

By the way, we have plenty of good old proletarian tuna here, would you like me to send you a normal tin in exchange?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 12/07/2020 09:37

GrinGrin I will report back on both the outcome, and the tastiness of the tuna.

Luckily I have a tuna-mad DS, so it will not be wasted.

Taranta · 12/07/2020 09:29

@lovelilies nothing wrong with Princes but London seems to be in grip of tinned tuna lockdown shortages on Ocado this was all I could get one week... @dudsville would that I could tell you if it was nice tuna! It better be worth it...

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

Ok, I've caved in. I will PM you my address! Feel free to ignore it you've managed to open them in the meantime, or if this is all just too weird for your taste.

If I do get a jar in the post, I will reimburse @Taranta and update you all with the outcome.

If I can't open it, I will be seeking a volunteer to take up the challenge. #LockdownMemories

It shall be done! Watch for jar delivery this week and we will all be holding our collective breath for the outcome... Grin

Rubber USB cable. Wrap it round the rim of the lid hold the cable together tight like a handle and push or pull off like a lever.
