Inspired by the nice little thread about nice little things...
What is the nicest thing(s) that anyone has ever done for you?
Big or small, I want to hear it all!

He was lovely to everyone he met. I never forgot him.

Pricklypear12 · 01/03/2020 16:03

@ellanwood that's so nice! Can't imagine having a boss like that!

When I was in my early twenties and very poor (paying back student overdraft) my boss overheard me telling a colleague that my feet were wet because I had holes in the soles of my shoes and it had been raining. He just grabbed my hand, pulled me out into the street to the nearest shoe shop and bought me some shoes. I didn't;t even know he'd heard and had no idea what he was doing when he dragged me outside. He was such a sweet man.

Pricklypear12 · 01/03/2020 15:22

@Dowser I love that idea

I had my first baby miles away from where I grew up and DP worked two jobs to pay the rent and feed us. My own DM has never been supportive and I had a really hard upbringing so wasn’t at all interested when I gave birth. I was young, exhausted and felt extremely vulnerable with zero support. One of my colleagues at work was married to the most lovely woman and she picked up on this.
She visited me in hospital, held df while I went for a wee, helped me to fed and brought me a whole array of things I couldn’t afford. She sat with me for hours supporting me to feed and giving me advice about what she did when her kids were young. Df is 17 now and I’ve never, ever forgotten her kindness.’
She’s a nan now and her daughter is the luckiest mum in the world

Bumping as this is such a wonderful thread to read. Smile

Dowser · 01/03/2020 00:07

The kindness of complete strangers is just totally overwhelming and so wonderful
It’s good to know that people like this are still around.
I hope there’s more of these wonderful stories when I wake up in the morning

Mnet should put them in a book and proceeds should go to charity

My DB helped DH and I financially to own our first home after years of renting. Once we had the keys he then spent almost every weekend for the next four months helping us with renovation and again paid ££££'s towards materials and tools needed. He is hard work generally but I will never forget this kindness towards us.

DropYourSword · 29/02/2020 23:23

I had terrible SPD. He probably has no idea how much he helped me!

Pricklypear12 · 29/02/2020 23:22

@DropYourSword how kind! I can't think of many things worse than sitting on a cramped flight when pregnant

My little one was really unwell with a chest infection and had been hospitalised. Lots of sleepless nights and worry, and we have another child so I was alone at the hospital a lot.

When we got home, a friend left a bag on the doorstep with treats for us all. Was so, so kind. It had magazines to keep my little one entertained, sweets, biscuits and some nice tea etc. Was such a lovely gesture - they didn’t even message to say it was there until they had left so no pressure to entertain.

DropYourSword · 29/02/2020 23:01

A total stranger let me have his first class upgrade on the final leg of a long haul flight. I was 26 weeks pregnant, flying home from the other side of the world after an emergency visit because my mum received a completely unexpected cancer diagnosis and I was scared I’d never see her again.
I am so very grateful to that guy. A genuinely lovely person.

Dowser · 29/02/2020 22:53

Was going through the marriage breakdown from hell and met a woman from down south through the charity we both worked for.
Things got really bad and I was dreading Easter.
She rang and invited me to her house and I went.
Was an 8 hour train journey but it was lovely to get away from my ex’s shenanigans
That was 15 years ago
We’ve been through thick and thin together.
At least three weddings and one funeral.
Just wish we lived closer.
I used to visit 4 times a year but only managed once last year..as health wasn’t brilliant

Cinderellasma · 29/02/2020 22:34

@Heihei that is the ultimate bouncer right there!

CherryPavlova · 29/02/2020 20:17

My husband’s boss who allowed us use of his holiday cottage cost free including a hamper of goodies when we arrived when the children were tiny and we couldn’t afford holidays. When he became ill he gave us the house.

This is a bit of a random one but when I was in labour with DD2, I was leaning over the bed face first sat on a chair (fast and furious labour). My hair must've been all over the place. The midwife very gently removed my hair bobble and tied my hair up again properly. I just thought it was a small but kind gesture.

When I first started driving by myself after passing my test, I once accidentally left my lights on so my car battery ran out. I had to call the AA and the man that came out to me was so lovely. He came really quickly and didn't make me feel like an idiot despite it being a silly mistake. He also messaged later in the evening to check I'd gotten home safely.

My mum flying over to help out with my newborn after my c section. She put up with my shouting and crying (I was in pain and very sleep deprived), brought me endless snacks, tea and juice and looked after my son like a prince- cuddling and rocking him so I could nap and shower. I'm hoping to treat my son as amazingly as she treats meSmile

When I was 17 I went out clubbing in (what I thought at the time) was an amazing dress that laced up at the back. Unfortunately I got quite pissed and fell down the stairs to the dance floor. During the fall the laces on my dress snapped and I landed sprawled out with my tits flashing hundreds of people. I was utterly mortified and people were laughing at me. A bouncer rushed over, threw his jacket over me, asked if I was hurt, picked me up and took me into the office area, where he and his colleagues stapled my dress back together and brought me a cup of tea. Then they rounded up my friends and orderd us a taxi home.

DP is the kindest person I’ve ever met. He’s done so many wonderfully kind things for me, from big gestures to picking up my favourite chocolate bar to cheer me up. It’s corny but he’s an absolute blessing in mine and ds’s lives.

OhioOhioOhio · 28/02/2020 00:28

Rescued me.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 28/02/2020 00:23

I was travelling back home after a trip away and had just received some bad news. Sat in Heathrow airport crying and barely holding myself together. A kind lady came over, gave me a shoulder squeeze and some tissues. Gate staff let me go through with the early boarders so I didn’t have to queue for my flight. They made an awful day a little better.
