Do we have a MN Christmas threads full house yet?

CloseEncountersOfTheTerfKind · 20/12/2019 10:33

Another thread has made me realise there are so many threads/posts about Christmas stresses and angst, and the same things seem to pop up every year. Every single year! I think we need cards and a competition to see who wins Full House first...

DH went out for his works Christmas party and has not come home yet and it's 7am - where is he?

Best thread I've read on MN. Some of the shite posted in AIBU recently is pathetic. Not to mention the endless whining about crap gifts / no gifts / too expensive to use gifts.

😂🤣

SmuggyMcKnobson · 25/12/2019 17:31

OH reckons it's all my fault too that would be another thread

My "near miss" AIBU involved taking all the candles/nice glasses and other festive bits off the table and putting them away.

Crisis averted though - I have gin, my first ever yorkshire puds are rising and the table is restored to its festive glory.

CloseEncountersOfTheTerfKind · 25/12/2019 16:27

Arghhh I just meant to reply to this but posted it on another thread because you confused me Smuggy and it's all your fault basically so here is my Anti MN Bingo Christmas Day update (ignore irrelevant bits Blush)

Oh Smuggy I hear you , they're just growing up, I just said earlier how nice it is that our DC don't wake us up at 4am screaming about Father Christmas are old enough to buy presents and take pleasure in giving them. I received such thoughtful cards and gifts I'll stop now in case I start saying I feel blessed and I'm making memories

Resuming normal MN service - we almost had an AIBU, and slightly fraught, moment when a younger teen wanted to meet up with friends the minute we finished the turkey. For a brief moment I stropped the house was divided over whether this was acceptable - the majority prevailed (this is why an an odd number of DC is useful Xmas Wink) and we are all reconvening later near the TV when everyone has done their respective socialising/napping/Mumsnetting. In retrospect it was the right decision. Everyone is happy and relaxed.

I hope you are all having an equally cheering and peaceful, drama free happy Christmas.

And if you have any Christmas tales of crises averted and no need to go NC with ILs or LTBs, we are all here Xmas Smile

I hate it when I follow through - especially at the Christmas dinner table Xmas Blush

wanderings · 24/12/2019 19:49

Had a “bingo” moment tonight! Xmas Wink I saw “you’ve said it, you have to follow through”. 🥔

Alsohuman · 24/12/2019 17:04

That thread seems to have vanished without trace. I guess it all got ugly very fast.

LolaSmiles · 24/12/2019 16:32

I've not seen that one yet.

But I do love the obviously unreasonable and selfish ones about not visiting or inviting elderly relatives or family (especially in laws) over the festive season because it's an inconvenience. It's only so long before a dozen posters point out that there's probably good reason to leave elderly relatives alone if the OP is considering it, maybe they were narcs or abusive, maybe the OP is better going non contact with their relatives because any guilt they're feeling is probably due to being conditioned to please the manipulative relative.etc. etc. Etc.

Meanwhile in the real world most people know that it's fairly shitty to leave someone alone over Christmas in most situations.

ArranUpsideDown · 24/12/2019 16:12

They Research images of using Google scholar to find new washing machines

Yes. I never know if people mean that they ran a literature search, tried out something in a lab, talked to relevant people or read a dodgy link/some Amazon reviews/a Which? report.

Alsohuman · 24/12/2019 16:07

I see we now have the “is it OK not to visit frail, housebound, elderly FiL on Christmas Day?” thread. Of course it isn’t fucking OK - and she knows it. Some bright spark - who will quite rightly get roasted as a turkey - maintains old people don’t care about Christmas because they’ve had loads of them. Where do these people come from?

SmuggyMcKnobson · 24/12/2019 15:52

Writing to The Old Codgers maybe? shows age

I think there is a very new thing called Facebook. I believe the standards of fact-checking and basic research on there are quite high. Xmas GrinXmas Grin

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 24/12/2019 14:14

@SmuggyMcKnobson that is true......which begs the question - if they aren't researching so,etching by googling it......how, in 2019, are they researching it Hmm

SmuggyMcKnobson · 24/12/2019 13:33

They don't just Google things either.

Surely they don't ever Google things. Why spends ages looking stuff up when someone on MN will be kind daft enough to do it for you.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 23/12/2019 20:00

People on MN never just buy things. They source them.

They don't just Google things either. They Research images of using Google scholar to find new washing machines

We are kindred spirits

WeGoHigher · 23/12/2019 19:19

I could rant for hours about the MN fruit and carrot sticks 'offer', @CrocodileFrock.

After school I offer my DC crudités and fresh hummus with pomegranate seeds They don't fucking eat it though because they swapped their 'lost' school blazer for burger and chips at lunch time with the kid from round the corner whose mum's niece walks your dog.

CrocodileFrock · 23/12/2019 18:51

"{runs off to tip fruit in brown bin, we all know it ends up there anyway it's only for show}"

I used to feel guilty at our complete lack of fruit bowls as everyone else on MN seemed to have children who devoured fruit by the crate.

Then one wise MNer pointed out that if you pay close attention to such threads, people only ever say "I offered DD/DS some fruit." There's never any mention of the offspring actually accepting it and eating it.

Reader, I felt slightly less lacking in both awareness and fruit bowls.

CloseEncountersOfTheTerfKind · 23/12/2019 18:18

Fucking hell arran I would have said LTB! And meant it!

The Ocado driver gave me the MN gift of being unexpectedly early and making me flap a bit, which is surely an ideal AIBU? So I had a ready made excuse for not being dressed (and Andy you're either a perv, or my DH Wink)

AIBU is very entertaining, but also rather exasperating. I am sitting on my hands. The older I get, the less patience I have with all this bollocks. The patriarchy and female socialisation is strong this season. I just want to go on pretty much every thread and say

Tell them to fuck off
Tell your DH to fuck off
Use your voice
You don't have to do all this
Tell your DH to fuck off
Do what YOU want
Oh and tell your DH to fuck off

DH has promise he would do the washing up Christmas Day but now it’s 31st December and things are still soaking. AIBU?

tbh, you sound like hard work. Are you always this controlling?*

*I should note at this point that I once had a business trip that turned into almost 12 weeks away from home. When I got back I was impressed to see that DH had been cooking (dirty pans waiting to be washed but - food prep felt like progress). It was only when I saw it was the same meal that I'd cooked just before leaving (and he'd been supposed to wash up) that I realised...If I'd posted on AIBU, I'd fully expect to have been told that I was controlling etc.

iklboodolphrednosedreindeer · 23/12/2019 17:09

WIBU to not give little Tommy any Christmas presents this year as he only got A- on his maths test?

Akire · 23/12/2019 17:06

Saga over if Santa brings just stockings one big gift or everything.

How can I hid I'm 7h pregnant when we are going out to a party and I can’t drink. How about I’m on antibiotics no one will ever guess!

I went over for xmas dinner and I was made to keep my shoes on/ take my shoes off. I was appalled.

DH has promise he would do the washing up Christmas Day but now it’s 31st December and things are still soaking. AIBU?

Andylion · 23/12/2019 16:11

AIBU to open the door to the Ocado delivery in my PJs and Santa hat? I am absolutely knackered (I actually have done a lot today ) and put my (clean!) PJs back on before I remembered the shop was coming. I am wrapping presents so the Wearing Of The Santa Hat is none negotiable. Is this a terrible social faux pas? I'm actually really tempted to start a proper AIBU thread to ask this. Imagine!

OP, answer the door wearing only your Santa hat. Wink

ArranUpsideDown · 23/12/2019 16:09

I will ignore the door and then start a thread on MN to ask who would be ringing my doorbell at 6pm on a Monday.

Shall there be a separate thread complaining:

*the courier left my order by the bins;
*the courier left my order by the door and the foxes have eaten my turkey;
*the courier left it with the neighbours but I don't open the door to them because blood feud?

CloseEncountersOfTheTerfKind · 23/12/2019 15:59

And yes smuggy you are right, I will ignore the door and then start a thread on MN to ask who would be ringing my doorbell at 6pm on a Monday.

OP posts:
CloseEncountersOfTheTerfKind · 23/12/2019 15:58

Well I just sorted out my Christmas lights outside in my PJs and Santa hat so I have no shame left Blush round here I would probably be judged for not wearing a tatty onesie, to be fair

elephantoverthehill · 23/12/2019 15:15

I had to take the bin out in my dressing gown today as I forget they were coming a day early this week. The bin man didn't bat an eyelid.
