We've all be ill on and off since they went back to school.
One morning Dd was telling me that she had a 'bummed up nose' I asked her to repeat it and she said the same.
I tried to clarify what she was saying and told her it was actually 'bunged up nose'. She laughed and thought I was joking!
She's decided she's going to carry on saying it the way she does Grin
Please tell me it's not just us. Confused

My daughter aged 9 thought it was aunt-sisters instead of ancestors...Grin

Where do you live where it’s pronounced “pourk”

I’m near Glasgow.

Is there anyway to link a voice recording and I’ll record myself saying pork/stork?! Totally different where I’m from.

Ferretyone · 04/10/2019 20:03

These are - in effect - "mondegreens" there is a weblink.

"I can see clearly now the train is gone"

"There's a bathroom on the right" - Credence clearwater

"Donuts make my brown eyes blue"

"The girl with colitis goes by" - Lucy in the sky with diamonds

We used to tell my daughter to put her pinny on (apron) when she was little, she thought they were called pinnyons for ages.

PrincessConsuelaTheSecond · 04/10/2019 19:52

When I was a waitress one of my colleagues called cutlery cuttle-ree.

15 years later I still call it cuttle-ree Grin

iklboo · 04/10/2019 19:51

Where do you live where it’s pronounced “pourk”?

Manchester

supersop60 · 04/10/2019 19:49

As a youngster I assumed 'misled' was pronounced mizzled. (not heard it). Similarly - awry was aw- ree, and Open Sesame was Open Sea-same.
A friend pronounced crotcheted exactly as it looks.
DP uses frentic (frantic/ frenetic), and Pewgeot (Peugeot)

I used to think the lyric in avril lavignes song skater boy "she had a problem with his baggy clothes" was "she had a problem with his back toes"

Still makes me chuckle today when I hear it...and have to resist not singing it my way!

DaveCoachesgavemetheclap · 04/10/2019 19:44

*Oh on the misheard lyrics I used to think the words of Living on a Prayer were "Take my hand and we'll make it elsewhere"

Me too @AryaStarkWolf - until about 30 seconds ago, in fact. I just had to google the lyrics. You learn something every day...*

Me three!

splitthedifference · 04/10/2019 19:42

I've put together many IKEA items asking my DH to "pass me another dour rod".

LittleFriendSusan · 04/10/2019 19:41

* "My youngest won't be shifted from saying "Winter Binds" (rather than wind turbines*" Forever known as Winter Bines in our house thanks to DD. Thought she was the only one!

nopenotplaying · 04/10/2019 19:37

I'm confused by pork/stork

Did you mean pork/stalk being wrong?

A stalk is different to a stork?

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 04/10/2019 19:28

Also third post in a row but I’m catching up and laughing at the pork/stork/fork thing Grin

Pork and stork are said completely different where I live

pork - pour-k
stork like...well...stork Grin

Ricekrispie22 · 04/10/2019 19:25

DB thought Lea & Perrins was Liam Perrins

And apparently, it’s ‘buck naked’ not ‘butt naked’.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 04/10/2019 19:24

Also I really struggle with”vegetarian” and say “vegeteranian” like “Mediterranean”

Happened the first time I asked for a vegeteranian pizza and my DH and the waitress laughed.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 04/10/2019 19:21

That song on the Mercedes advert “oh lord won’t you buy me, a Mercedes Benz...”

I sang up until about 2 years ago “oh lord won’t you buy me, a Mercedes van” until my now DH looked at me with a WTF expression and asked me to repeat it. Genuinely thought they’d been singing van.

It still sounds like van!!!

girlandboy · 04/10/2019 19:21

My DH works on aircraft, and has done for 40 years. I corrected him on "cotpit' but I can't stop him saying "helicockter"!!

girlwithadragontattoo · 04/10/2019 19:06

Slightly off topic, when i was a little my told me that the mirrors you find down the country lanes were for birds to do their hair in the morning and they were forever called 'bird mirrors' it wasn't until i was in my 20's that the penny finally dropped and they weren't in-fact 'bird mirrors'

Boujee · 04/10/2019 19:02

My son thought a vending machine was called a bending machine until he was 12yrs old, l said why would you think that and he said cos you bend down to get your purchase, its stuck every since

LittleFriendSusan · 04/10/2019 18:59

* 'I didn't discover that misled wasn't pronounced as MYZELD until I was about 18*'. I was 40-odd before the penny dropped on this one.

Lou12124 · 04/10/2019 18:59

@butteryellow

😂 I was sat for ages saying the words out loud and thinking the same as you! Pork and stork....rhymes? 😂

Celestine70 · 04/10/2019 18:59

I used to say forrid as a kid. Thought it was really strange as a teenager when it was pointed out it's actually forehead. I blame my mother.

Pinklady1982 · 04/10/2019 18:58

My dd6 has said 'please I may' rather than please may I. It's so cute when she says it that I haven't got the heart to correct her!

morrisseysquif · 04/10/2019 18:54

DD really looked forward to getting her chicken pots to look after, you know, those cute chickens that live in their own pots.

When she got 'chicken pox' she was gutted.
