You have ever received?

I will start. Not the most ridiculous one, but in my top 10.
Woman demanding that I check in the back for a certain colour of a dress she wanted otherwise she will have me fired. After 5 minutes of her moaning she can't get it anywhere and me trying to explain that it's because it's not even made in the colour she wants, I went. I needed a toilet anyway 🙈

A customer ordered spicy italian sub. It's on a picture. It has a description there, he watched me to put pepperoni and salami in. Came back few minutes later FUMING that it's not vegetarian.... Sent a complaint to a head office about it too.

A lady phoned up to check stock of something, I confirmed we had it. So she drove down parked in disabled bay (not a badge holder), got a ticket and then complained to head office that it was my fault. According to her I should have told her over the phone she shouldn't park in them 🙄

My old local pub had a complaint put in by an American group after their GAMMON wasn't beef

There isn't anything in the US called gammon. What even is it?

I worked for a politician in California. A guy called my office asking for money. I explained the Senator had no money for people but referred him to all the Social Services offices & free food places etc there were available.
About 30 minutes later there he was in my office & threatening to KILL ME because I wouldn’t give him money.
That was an exciting day.

  1. Worked in a hotel in Ibiza, family complained that it was raining, they had apparently paid a lot of money for their holiday and they demanded sunny weather.

  2. In the U.K. I received a complaint that the ramp for wheelchairs at the entrance to the leisure centre I work at was far too long. I did try to explain to the lady in question that if it were shorter it would therefore need to be steeper, and in fact would be far to steep for people to wheel themselves up. She didn’t grasp what I was saying at all, she seemed to think I was trying to pull the wool over her eyes.

  3. On the day of a local mile wide power outage, a man swore at me because on the one day he wanted to take his kids for a swim, I decided to have a power cut...

Many lifetimes ago I worked for the Job Centre (when it was DHSS).

Bloke had an appointment for additional benefits (on top of JSA). He turned up 3 hours late - at lunchtime- covered in paint splattered tradesman overalls, and paint on his hands.
I could not offer him at interview as he had missed his prebooked time.
He started screaming at me because he 'had been to his grandmother's funeral'
When I said I'm sorry but I have good reason to believe you have been working, he went mad and tried to pick up his chair to throw at me. He then raged at how bad the system was that the chairs were bolted to the floor (for this very reason).
I would say 90pct of the clientele I dealt with there were agressive, entitled arses and it completely put me off ever working in customer facing job again.

In this case I was the customer. I had just bought a brand new car. The next day I had a phone call from someone at the car dealers telling me that another of their customers who had just bought one of their cars had complained. Apparently I had taken their rear number plate and I should immediately return it.

I was quite taken aback. Silly man, did he think I screwed the number plates on myself and did his deluded brain not figure out the other customer also had my rear number plate. Hmm

It still annoys me that I meekly took my car back to swap number plates and didn’t point out they had mixed up the number plates, not me.

I work as a group exercise instructor and one twat used to constantly moan I was too happy and energetic

My STBXH asking me to find and provide the evidence he needs against me for the divorce! WTH.!

IamWaggingBrenda · 18/08/2019 23:43

I work in a library x - we have free access computers. We have many patrons who come in to use the computers to check their emails or use various programs requiring passwords. Apparently, I should know their passwords - which they have set up, and managed to forget - but I’m the idiot Hmm

'This bacon says it's a 6 pack and there were 7 slices in it. I didn't want 7 slices'
'This is on buy one get one free but you only have one so I want this one as the free one'
'This is on buy one get one free but I live alone so I don't need that many'

Parent complained bitterly because her five year old said I'd shut him in a spider and cockroach infested cupboard (and my kid doesn't tell lies). Showed her around the open plan class bases with their acres of open shelving and complete absence of cupboards. She was still difficult to convince.

Bluecube1 · 18/08/2019 23:06

I worked in a deli that sold shellfish both live and cooked. I had a customer complain that she couldn’t buy half a live lobster to cook at home!

WellVersedInEtiquette · 18/08/2019 23:05

@Soubriquet I've never done that. If I don't know for certain then I always look! I must have missed the page in the handbook that suggests that?

Jarimbert · 18/08/2019 23:03

One of my friends worked in a pub/restaurant. It had a rustic theme, so the plates have a pattern on them. Nothing bad, just the kind of "Spode" style prints. Anyway, someone complained that the pattern on the plate "put me off my food" after they had eaten their meal.
Someone else complained about the creme brulee they ordered being cold.
I also heard someone complaining at a holiday park I was staying at: "There's no internet, phone signal or entertainment facilities. I know it says about them not being provided on the website, but I didn't think it would be this bad. What are we supposed to do with the children for a week?"

lynfordthecrab · 18/08/2019 22:56

A customer asked for a lactose free breakfast. It went out, she brought it back and complained that she had told us her daughter was lactose free and that meant no dairy so why was there a fried egg on it? Were we all stupid?
Ummm nope but you are love!

Today me and bestie did a car boot selling clothes boots homewares-
Lady comes over picks up a pair of jeans and asks the size, bestie says 16. Women holds them up .. clearly won’t fit her. SCREAMS at bestie
“Why are you saying these are 16 they won’t fit me and I’m not even a 16” bestie explains she didn’t make the jeans or put the label in and if there not the right size then maybe look for others ?!?! women buys jeans but explains she is very unhappy that she is having to buy size 16 jeans?!?!?!?!

Man comes over and looks at curtains for 10 mins .. every inch is inspected.
He offers £2 instead of the requested £5 ( £70 curtains immaculate condition for m&s)
He won’t pay £5 so walks away.
Curtains sell 5 mins later for £5.
Man returns 20 mins later to offer £4
Bestie explains curtains gone.
He is outraged and demands to know who purchased HIS curtains and how it was our fault his wife would now be devastated at not having curtains to hang when he got home?!?!

man comes over and asks the price of a canvas picture £2. He asks if we can photograph the canvas and email a picture to wife overseas and await replay and not sell it until she gets back to us.
We say no and he explains how unreasonable we’re being as he’s really taking a risk as he doesn’t even like the picture. Ow wow!!!

Working in a popular DIY store we had many ridiculous complaints.

The woman that wanted to return half a tin of paint because she hadn’t used it all.

Numerous people attempting to return used lightbulbs.

But my best was when I worked in a pub. This particular lady was a fairly regular diner (once a month or so) and a notorious complainer. We very quickly realised that this lady was always after a free dinner. On one occasion she ordered the fish and chips but said that she didn’t want the fish battered. No problem, we grilled the cod for her. Upon serving the meal she asked where the batter was and I reminded her that she had ordered it without batter to which she responded “I wanted the batter on the side” I (losing my rag at this point as I knew her game) sarcastically asked if she would like me to pick the batter off a piece of fish for her to which she said “no I’ll just have a free dessert”

DD works in McDonald's. She regularly gets asked what McFlurrys they have, so she lists them and they ask for one that they've never offered. Occasionally the drinks machine breaks down. It's amazing how many people don't understand "I'm sorry, we have no fizzy drinks at the moment." and ask for "A Sprite instead?". After reading the comments on here, I wonder if any of the stupid people are also reading them, and if they realise...

WellTidy · 18/08/2019 22:23

I was asked in WHSmith once where a certain item of stationery was. I gave my best guess but explained I didn’t work there, sorry. And was properly told off by the customer for what I was wearing - jeans and a blue and white gingham shirt - which was apparently too similar to the staff uniform. The customer actually said, really rudely ‘well what are you wearing that for in here?’

JustLikeJasper · 18/08/2019 22:21

Had a customer complain to me his car slowed down when he takes his foot off the accelerator Hmm

DownstairsMixUp · 18/08/2019 22:17

Woman bought a meal deal but one of the sandwiches she picked wasn't included so it wasnt scanning for £3. She threw the sandwich at my head when I explained.

Heavily pregnant working on the tills, I had SPD so manager gave me a chair to sit and said for lottery just print them on the receipts and not to worry walking back and forth from the lotto terminal and only use it when people wanted numbers checking. Man ordered four lucky dips so printed it on receipt. He went absolutely batshit and screamed he wanted a pink ticket! I apologized and said I was in a lot of pain and has been put to till duties. Said I could reprint ticket but wouldn't be same numbers now. He called me stupid etc all sorts and said I was a lazy fat cow. Colleague printed off another one and another woman behind called him a prick and bought his other ticket 😂 I hope she won!

When I was younger I worked in a pub that served food.

Two young men came to the bar, one ordered a steak sandwich and the other a BLT. The one who had the BLT brought it back and said he wanted to complain about it.

Me: Oh, I'm sorry - what's the problem?
Him: It's not really what I expected.
Me: Er ... in what way? The menu describes it as a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich with mayonnaise on white bloomer bread with a side of chips. Isn't that what this is?
Him: Well, there's not really much bread.
Me (genuinely baffled): Were you expecting more than two slices, because ... that's kind of what a sandwich is?
Him: [embarrassed silence]
Me: I'm happy to change it for something else, I just wanted to understand the nature of your complaint. What would you like instead?
Him: The steak sandwich please.
Me: That will also have two slices of bread, exactly the same as the BLT. Will you be OK with that?
Him: Oh yes.

So essentially, he'd just seen his mate's steak sandwich, had food envy and thought that was my problem. Entitled wanker.

Worked at a local newspaper. The day that the trades break up before Christmas is known locally as ‘black-eye Friday’. Following a newspaper report detailing the number of arrests on black eye Friday, a disgruntled resident called to complain that it had been referred to as ‘Mad Friday’, which is what it’s called in the west of the county. Asked him what he wanted done about it, but he really wasn’t sure.

Working in a call centre for the local council following an extremely sudden, exceptionally heavy snowfall. Took a call from an irate woman who complained that her bin hadn’t been collected that day (it was 2pm). When assured that that the bin wagon may have been delayed but would get to her eventually, she then demanded to know when the gritters would be there as she couldn’t get her car out of the village. I politely explained that there may be a correlation between the two issues, but she failed to grasp this.

And the woman who phoned me wanting to order a wreath for a funeral, and was most upset that I couldn't oblige; my number differed by one digit from the florist.
And another woman phoned asking me if I was the yoga teacher, and was convinced I was lying when I said I wasn't. Granted we had the same surname and first initial and we lived in the same area...

Friend returned from a skiing holiday having had a great time, but was going to write to the holiday company because the hotel was at the bottom of a big hill.
