My kids' dad fed them badger

I'm not joking. We are separated and he sees them for the day once every few weeks. Last week he took them for the day in London and when I picked them up they told me, very casually, that Daddy had given them badger with rice for lunch. He had sent me a picture a few days earlier of a dead badger so it is totally plausible, and given that he has been homeless for the last couple of years and often 'lives off the land' I am certain he would not think twice about eating a badger. He told the kids that he steamed the meat for 4hrs but now i'm really worried about the whole TB thing. They seem fine but not sure if I should get them checked out. Any words of wisdom?

I quite like the rabbit. DD thinks it's cool, much better than a pink cutsie toy. I certainly wouldn't want a younger child to have it but she just displays it and washes her hands after touching it. Apparently it was hung/dried out for a long time beforehand. She also has a necklace with a rabbit's foot on it. Didn't everyone have one of those in the 70s?

Wtf is with that rabbit that's surely got to be a sign of a psychopath 😭😂

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/11/2018 20:49

Did/does no one else keep a dead rabbits foot in their pocket for good luck. Perfectly normal as far as I remember.

TigerMummy1 · 16/11/2018 20:45

I was all sett to say that I hear Badgens supermarket has a new range coming out...

But then I saw the rabbit and I'm completely grossed out. Doesn't it go off?
Also, I'd agree go to GP in case, I don't want to scare you but aren't there some pretty serious types of food poisoning with long incubations that they might be able to test for and treat before they took hold?

everybodypuuuuulllll · 16/11/2018 20:44

You can break into people’s houses to charge your phone

What's your point?

If you found yourself homeless, would you chose to charge your phone by:

a. nipping into a library (if one still exists near you that is)
b. using a wind up or solar powered charger
c. charging it in your vehicle if you have one
d. breaking into someone's fucking house

Would you chose option d, waxy1? Seriously? Why would you think someone else would do this?

FitzChivalryFarseer · 16/11/2018 20:44

Holy fuck! That rabbit is all kinds of wrong. This thread just went from hilarious to horrid in one post.

everybodypuuuuulllll · 16/11/2018 20:41

Loulamummy isn't it going off? The ear, I mean.

The tail is like fur on a hat I suppose. I don't agree with fur but if it's been killed for food and going to waste, logic says why not, I suppose.

But the ear is pretty freaky. And won't it go bad?

What did you say when he presented it?! Do the kids play with it?

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 16/11/2018 20:37

We too have badger birdtable trouble. They come for our all you can eat slug buffet around the garden, which is great. Unfortunately they've also wrecked 2 hefty birdtables, hoiking themselves up to get the raisins, fatballs, nuts and seeds. They are good climbers, scrambling with ease over our stone walls. When it's quiet at night we can sometimes hear them snuffling, chomping and scratching on our front steps, just by the door - a favourite slug stop. When I go out to the car or bin in the dark, we sometimes surprise eachother.

Never offered them cheesecake though. Too busy eating that myself.

OurMiracle1106 · 16/11/2018 20:35

Yes you can charge your phone in the library. Just use a pc and plug it into the usb. Same way I charge my phone at work so it doesn’t die at the gym.

I wonder if bodger needs some special food? Or will the sett menu be ok?

TheSheepofWallSt · 16/11/2018 20:34

Actually I keep looking at it, and thinking I
A) quite like the aesthetic - and wondering if there’s an artsy market for that sort of macabre shit
B) wondering if your ex is Sid from Toy Story grown up
And
C) If A is something I should be worried about

FabulouslyGlamorousFerret · 16/11/2018 20:33

Fuck me - that rabbit 😱😱

Lovemusic33 · 16/11/2018 20:31

The bunny is scary. Eating road kill is one thing but giving it to a child to play with is wrong? And I’m sure it’s likely to attract flies?

KittensAndCake · 16/11/2018 20:27

That bunny is horrible ☹️

TheSheepofWallSt · 16/11/2018 20:25

What the actual fuck with that bunny?!?!

I know he’s had a bit of a time of it, but that’s fucking macabre?!

Had to log in to say our badgers go wild for cheesecake and will wrestle a turkey carcass off the bird table.

^^Pray tell, where do you live?

Can't understand why some people think homeless people don't have mobile phones.

^^

Yes, what an odd conclusion to come to Confused

Loulamummy · 16/11/2018 20:16

My ex gave this to my DD recently. Ear and tail replaced with real rabbit ear and tail!

@SirVix

Funny isn’t it, how they go hand in hand... Grin

I’m off the boats for a bit while I get DS through the kamikaze years (we had a trad pair that were lovely, but hard work with a toddler- too much engine room and back cabin, not enough floor space and soft furnishings

Can’t wait to get back to sloe picking and , er, badger steaming, when he’s a bit bigger

AlisonBlunderland · 16/11/2018 20:14

Your ex DH comes from the same school as our next door neighbours who welcomed us to the area with a housewarming present of a couple of partridge in a bloodied plastic bag with the warning to "mind your teeth in case you find any lead shot in them"

SirVixofVixHall · 16/11/2018 20:07

Sheep I lived on a boat too. Hence knowing roadkill eaters !

TheSheepofWallSt · 16/11/2018 20:04

So in short- I think this is a genuine case of hairy paws for lunch- not hairy hands

TheSheepofWallSt · 16/11/2018 20:03

I 100% believe this.

I lived on a narrow boat for years, and this sort of shit went down all the time. You get a bit Hugh F-H when you live on boats too- we used to catch crayfish on the rivers, often foraged fruit, herbs, roots etc. and I know of people living off ducks and duck eggs in the fens - exDP had a rough spell of no work one winter and became expert at “living off the land”. He would 100% feed our son badger from a Tupperware in the NH museum. He also ignores rice safe storage advice Angry

Re: charging phones- when you live on a boat, you get thrifty with the electric, as you’re reliant on battery storage, gennies etc. You become expert at charging your phone in unlikely places (buses, trains,

April2020mom · 16/11/2018 19:55

I’ll pass but each to his own.

everybodypuuuuulllll · 16/11/2018 19:49

You can charge your phone in the library?

You can charge your phone with solar power or wind up chargers or off 12 volt batteries. You don't need mains electricity.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 16/11/2018 19:46

Does roadkill only apply to animals killed by cars on a road? Or could you spear a badger as it crossed the road? Technically they would also be killed on a road, so roadkill?
