My kids' dad fed them badger

I'm not joking. We are separated and he sees them for the day once every few weeks. Last week he took them for the day in London and when I picked them up they told me, very casually, that Daddy had given them badger with rice for lunch. He had sent me a picture a few days earlier of a dead badger so it is totally plausible, and given that he has been homeless for the last couple of years and often 'lives off the land' I am certain he would not think twice about eating a badger. He told the kids that he steamed the meat for 4hrs but now i'm really worried about the whole TB thing. They seem fine but not sure if I should get them checked out. Any words of wisdom?

That rabbit is the stuff of nightmares 😱

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 16/11/2018 23:39

At our local country fair, there was a stall of taxidermy for sale, including many squirrels in various 'comic' poses such as dressed up riding a bicycle, smoking or fishing. They were modern, very recently done. Despite having a well developed sense of humour about most things, to me they seemed just awful.

Did the rabbit put the lotion in the basket?

everybodypuuuuulllll · 16/11/2018 23:30

However chopping bits off dead rabbits and sewing them to an existing doll is nuts.

Depends on the context. Killing a rabbit to make a toy for your child, that's pretty sick, yes.

Killing a rabbit to eat for dinner, and giving your child some the left overs to play with - no different to a "lucky" rabbit's foot except it's not culturally something we do usually.

Resisting googling Ed Gein! Have learnt not to google things I'm invited to on MN! I didn't heed the warning to never google dragon butter. Nor a few other things. Not enough brain bleach!!

HHLimboo · 16/11/2018 23:26

themanisajerk They've obviously gone into delicious dinners and probably those puffy jackets..

Tralalaatralalee · 16/11/2018 23:25

I may be missing sometching, but what on earth is wrong with eating roadkill? Sounds sensible to me.

themanisajerk · 16/11/2018 23:10

@HHLimboo you think the ducks are being eaten on picnics or sewn into toys???

HHLimboo · 16/11/2018 23:08
  1. Im guessing this is the result of jobseekers allowance being about £300 per Month Sad
  1. All of the ducks have disappeared from our local river. Literally every duck.
VisitorsEntrance · 16/11/2018 22:51

Everybody.

I agree that eating from the land and giving your child homemade toys is great.

However chopping bits off dead rabbits and sewing them to an existing doll is nuts.
Google Ed Gein.

everybodypuuuuulllll chill out mate x

GabsAlot · 16/11/2018 22:46

er well that took a turn

Quantumblue · 16/11/2018 22:44

Your dc will have some extraordinary stories to tell about their childhoods. It's sort of the opposite of a Disney dad...Roadkill dad?

Bluemascara4 · 16/11/2018 22:05

Another vote for MN Classics please Bear

GinGiminey · 16/11/2018 21:43

The bunny reminds me of something you’d find on the Facebook fail threads 😂. Just needs some glitter 😉.

Skyejuly · 16/11/2018 21:35

That's terrifying

longestlurkerever · 16/11/2018 21:35

It's presumably more like taxidermy than rotting meat? I think it's quite cool too.

Blackness78 · 16/11/2018 21:34

I smell a badger rat.

DameFanny · 16/11/2018 21:29

Wowsers.

That is all.

SconNotScone · 16/11/2018 21:25

Oh I quite like the bunny!!! And the badger talk, of course. But mainly the bunny.

MrsChristianTrevelyanGrey · 16/11/2018 21:23

That bunny is freaky

everybodypuuuuulllll · 16/11/2018 21:16

Wtf is with that rabbit that's surely got to be a sign of a psychopath

Or someone logical.

What's more psychopathic?

  1. To import intensively farmed meat products from massive cattle ranches that are destroying the ecosystem we depend on for life, and buy them from supermarkets that deliberately overstock to make their shelves look abundant, knowing plenty of it will end up in the skip. Plus buying a plastic toy for your child, that will be hanging around on the earth longer than any of us.

Or

  1. Eating organic rabbit that's lived a free life and then doing something useful with the left over bits.

Number 1 is way more psychopathic IMO. But we've been conditioned to think it's fine as we live in a consumer culture.

Personally I think all meat is gross. The I find the rabbit's ear just as gross as a Christmas turkey. Or a pork chop. Same thing. It's all just conditioning.

Opheliasgoldenwine · 16/11/2018 21:14

Won't it rot though??

Flaskfan · 16/11/2018 21:08

I had a fur stole as a kid. Not sure if it was Fox or stout, but it belonged to some ancient great aunty. Its paws were in the wrong place (cos it was a stole) and its little head fascinated me.

I'm vegetarian now, btw.

howdyholdthedoody · 16/11/2018 20:52

It just looks so weird because it doesn't look weird if that makes sense? Like he's replaced it with the right parts so it looks anatomically correct but just...wrong 😂
