My kids' dad fed them badger

I'm not joking. We are separated and he sees them for the day once every few weeks. Last week he took them for the day in London and when I picked them up they told me, very casually, that Daddy had given them badger with rice for lunch. He had sent me a picture a few days earlier of a dead badger so it is totally plausible, and given that he has been homeless for the last couple of years and often 'lives off the land' I am certain he would not think twice about eating a badger. He told the kids that he steamed the meat for 4hrs but now i'm really worried about the whole TB thing. They seem fine but not sure if I should get them checked out. Any words of wisdom?

There is a man who eats badgers. Not sure if it is the OP's ex - he's called Arthur. There was a programme about him, although it's not available on the BBC website. Might be on YouTube somewhere. Arthur was married (and TB free as far as I know). www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b008sc9m

Ferret the truth out of him, OP!

BadLad · 16/11/2018 06:40

You haven't met dd. Would refuse to eat a McDonalds but will quite happily eat kangaroo, pigeon, goat and frogs legs. Draws the line at rabbit. Kids are weird.

I was trying to fit "vole" into a pun, rather than making a comment about kids.

🎶Bodger and Badger
Bodger and Badger
Bodger and Badger
Are never far away 🎶

As an aside, I didn't realise that Bodger (Andy Cunningham) died last year Sad

Did he serve Kale with it? If not then YANBU.

What a thread to wake up to

StealthPolarBear · 16/11/2018 06:13

No vegetables?!

JoyceTempleSavage · 16/11/2018 06:13

I am sad I’ve nearly got to the age of 50 and never seen a badger

Now I know why

Zoflorabore · 16/11/2018 06:10

My dd is 7 and would rather eat her own toenails than a badger. Thanks for the laugh op Grin

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 16/11/2018 06:02

I'd rat on him to the NSPCC. No kid would eat badger voleuntarily.

TheClaws · 16/11/2018 05:39

Mmm, Honey Badger Smile

BigGreenOlives · 16/11/2018 05:35

I’m sure he was winding them up, i can imagine doing something similar to my children.

StopTheHistrionics · 16/11/2018 05:30

Snapped and farted was embarassing bollocks. This is actually quite funny Smile

Antigon · 16/11/2018 05:29

Was he called Bodger?

NotTheFordType · 16/11/2018 05:18

People, keep up. They don't go to the woods, he had them at the Natural History Museum. Just realised that is pretty ironic.

Given the NHM charges £3 for a can of fucking Pellegrino I think bringing your own badger to eat is probably a growing backlash trend.

makingmammaries · 16/11/2018 05:11

I vaguely remember an Old Testament prohibition on eating badger, which probably means it doesn’t store well.

playftseforme · 16/11/2018 04:08

Honey badger??

What's the betting this will crop up on every "What have you eaten today?" thread.

I'll start.

B Weetabix and toast, cup of tea
L tuna and salad on wholemeal
D Badger and rice, glass of Chianti

Does anyone else have the theme tune for Bodger and Badger running through their head?

Probably just me....

The only parts of a badger that humans can consume without becoming violently ill are the hams, or hind legs, which are only palatable if smoked.
Badgers are carnivorous. We do not eat carnivorous animals for a reason.

Eating roadkill is particularly dangerous as one never knows how the vehicle has hit the animal, and if the stomach or intestine is ruptured this can poison the meat.
This is why you should never accept roadkill venison for example.

I imagine the OP’s ex husband was having the children on, they would have been very sick by now otherwise.

I want to know more about where in the woods he keeps his Tupperware collection...

BoomBoomsCousin · 16/11/2018 03:12

If it's properly cooked I can't see how they'd get TB. Pasteurization kills TB bacteria, so steaming it certainly ought to.

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 16/11/2018 03:09

When will they be stocking it in Waitrose? We must be told.

It could replace the 5 Bird Roast at Christmas: a badger, stuffed with a fox, stuffed with a hedgehog, stuffed with a rat, stuffed with a toad. Or your own variation, obviously.

Perhaps I should suggest this over on the Christmas threads.

Speakeasy22 · 16/11/2018 03:06

Would have been better to LTB(adger) and just eaten the rice...
