Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

So many fabulous songs have already been mentioned.
Miss you like crazy - Natalie Cole. It always makes me think of my lovely Dad.
Ordinary man -Christy Moore. You can feel the pain in his voice.
Pretty much anything by BellX1. Paul Noonan's voice is sublime.

Family Portrait by Pink

Makes me think how my son must think about me and my ex wife. Can't listen to it any more, it just makes me feel gut wrenchingly guilty that I didn't do more to protect him from the impact.

LookImAHooman · 15/01/2018 20:12

teeny I’m sorry about your Mum Flowers

LookImAHooman · 15/01/2018 20:11

10things that Jamie song can fuck right off. The first time I heard it I thought what a lovely, light, happy sentiment it was, and then - NO. NO. I was a bit narked.

teenybean · 15/01/2018 20:11

'Everybody hurts' by R.E.M, it was the song i chose to have played at my Mum's funeral,
'Wasn't expecting that' by Jamie lawson, my mum died of cancer & when he sings that 'it's come back again, I wasn't expecting that' It breaks me, every. Single. Time 😔

God loads. Some that don't have meaning to me (also a fan of Emotionless by Good Charlotte but no specific emotional reason. The whole album actually). Some that do. I do love a weep at some emotional lyrics and don't pretend to have sophisticated tastes in music.

Jealous, Labyrinth.
We Are Young, Fun
You Ruined Me, The Veronicas (I know, I know). Specifically the line 'and in the end I hope she was worth it'
Say Something, Great Big World

Feel by Robbie

Come and hold my hand
I wanna contact the living
Not sure I understand
This role I've been given
I sit and talk to God
And he just laughs at my plans
My head speaks a language
I don't understand

I just understand these lyrics sadly.

10thingsIhateAboutTheDailyMail · 15/01/2018 20:08

That song by Jamie "I wasn't expecting that"....

Also "hero" by family of the year (from the "boyhood" movie)

Also "at my most beautiful" by REM, as mentioned above

Whatififall · 15/01/2018 20:06

Say something, I'm giving up on you...
I can never remember the artist (should have googled it before posting really) but it gets me every time.

upsiedayz · 15/01/2018 20:04

"And then, we tried to name our babies,
But we forgot all the names that,
The names we used to know"

Arcade Fire, Neighbourhood 1.

DumbledoresApprentice · 15/01/2018 20:04

Thatbloody- I love that whole album.

Some hid scars and some hid scratches
It made me wonder about their past
And as I looked around, I began to notice
That we were nothing like the rest

mrsnolasco · 15/01/2018 20:01

Ripples - Genesis
Angels never know it's time,
To close the book and gracefully decline

Coffeeandcrochet · 15/01/2018 19:59

The Water - Johnny Flynn and Laura Marling

"Now the land that I knew is a dream
And the line on the distance grows faint
So wide is my river
The horizon a sliver
The artist has run out of paint
Where the blue of the sea meets the sky
And the big yellow sun leads me home
I'm everywhere now
The way is a vow
To the wind of each breath by and by"

Unevenbeard · 15/01/2018 19:56

The drugs don't work, they just make you worse but I know I'll see your face again

AntsDeck · 15/01/2018 19:55

Dm and Thatbloody - cracking lyrics Thanks

How Long Will I love You, Ellie Goulding
Spectrum, Florence. This one is so good it makes my heart hurt, rather than the lyrics Smile

All of this song - Little Talks/Of Monsters and Men

Hey! Hey! Hey!
I don't like walking around this old and empty house
So hold my hand, I'll walk with you my dear
The stairs creak as I sleep,
It's keeping me awake
It's the house telling you to close your eyes
And some days I can't even trust myself
It's killing me to see you this way
'Cause though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
Hey! Hey! Hey!
There's an old voice in my head
That's holding me back
Well tell her that I miss our little talks
Soon it will all be over, and buried with our past
We used to play outside when we were young
And full of life and full of love
Some days I don't know if I am wrong or right.
Your mind is playing tricks on you my dear
'Cause though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
Hey!
Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!
Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
You're gone, gone, gone away,
I watched you disappear
All that's left is a ghost of you
Now we're torn, torn, torn apart,
there's nothing we can do,
Just let me go, we'll meet again soon
Now wait, wait, wait for me, please hang around
I'll see you when I fall asleep
Hey!
Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!
Though the truth may vary
this ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
Hey!
Don't listen to a word I say
Hey!
The screams all sound the same
Hey!
Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore
Though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to shore

Another one for Coldplay’s Fix You. I will dive to change over / skip on if ever it comes on accidentally. Purely reserved for terrible times when I really need the mother of all bawls.

Wasn’t really aware of it before but am obviously so these days and can’t listen to Ariana Grande’s One Last Time.

I haven’t listened to Bright Eyes in ages. Might go and dig some out tonight, more happily.

Baby Mine from Dumbo 😢

DMwankers · 15/01/2018 19:44

Great thread. Mine is 'Emotionless' by Good Charlotte

Hey dad
I'm writing to you
Not to tell you, that I still hate you
Just to ask you
How you feel
And how we fell apart
How this fell apart
Are you happy out there in this great wide world?
Do you think about your sons?
Do you miss your little girl?
When you lay your head down
How do you sleep at night?
Do you even wonder if we're all right?
But we're all right
We're all right
It's been a long hard road without you by my side
Why weren't you there all the nights that we cried
You broke my mother's heart
You broke your children for life
It's not okay,
But we're alright
I remember the days, you were a hero in my eyes
But those were just a long lost memory of mine
I spent so many years learning how to survive
Now, I'm writing just to let you know that I'm still alive
The days I spent so cold, so hungry
Were full of hate
I was so angry
Those scars run deep inside this tattooed body
There's things I'll take, to my grave
But I'm okay
I'm okay
It's been a long hard road without you by my side
Why weren't you there all the nights that we cried
You broke my mother's heart
You broke your children for life
It's not okay,
But we're all right
I remember the days, you were a hero in my eyes
But those were just a long lost memory of mine
Now, I'm writing just to let you know that I'm still alive
Yeah, I'm still alive
Sometimes
I forgive
Yeah and this time
I'll admit
That I miss you, said I miss you
It's been a long hard road without you by my side
Why weren't you there all the nights that we cried
You broke my mother's heart
You broke your children for life
It's not okay,
But we're all right
I remember the days, you were a hero in my eyes
But those were just a long lost memory of mine
Now, I'm writing just to let you know that were still alive
And sometimes
I forgive
And this time
I'll admit, that I miss you, miss you
Hey dad

Not The Only One by Sam Smith
You and I by Lady Gaga
Jealous by Labrinth

Elledouble · 15/01/2018 19:38

Oh, shit Blush

Elledouble · 15/01/2018 19:38

Please Please Please by the Smiths. It’s so perfectly short and full of longing.

Lots of things by Leonard Cohen. Hey, That’s No Way to Say Goodbye. And Take This Waltz, particularly:

“Oh my love, oh my love
Take this waltz, take this waltz
It's yours now, it's all that there is”
