Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

I'm not usually a fan of hers, but these lyrice from the Carrie Underwood song Temporary Home

Young mom on her own
She needs a little help got nowhere to go
She's lookin' for a job, lookin' for a way out
'Cause a half-way house will never be a home
At night she whispers to her baby girl
Someday we'll find a place here in this world
"This is our temporary home
It's not where we belong
Windows in rooms that we're passin' through
This is just a stop, on the way to where we're going
I'm not afraid because I know this is our
Temporary Home."

Really get to me because the first time I hesrd it I was a newly single 24 year old, pretty clueless mum to a 1 year old daughter. We were living in a cheap house in a really rough neighbourhood and I was going to college as a means to get to uni and get a decent job. I did used to hold my baby girl and remind us both we wouldnt be there forever, as one side of neighbours screamed and swore at each other all night every night and the other side was a drug dealer, who had people banging on his door at all times of the day and night. Maybe a bit self indulgent, but they were tough times and it gives me goosebumps remembering how I felt when I first heard the song

It sounds silly, but Stay Another Day by East 17 makes me well up, once you know what it's about.

It's about one of the band's brother's suicide. It's not some sappy break up song, it's about the heartbreak of wishing your loved one could have made it through.

ChristmasFluff · 26/05/2019 15:56

There are so many songs that I could name, but the one that blew me away when I heard it was 'She's Leaving Home' by the Beatles. I mean, the whole song was so validating, but these lines especially:

"She's leaving home after living alone for so many years."
"Something inside that was always denied for so many years"

I find it hard to listen to still, and those words never fail to bring a tear to my eye. I left home young, my mother often voiced identical thoughts to the mother in the song; and this song feels like it was written so I knew someone understood

Itswinternow · 25/05/2019 21:04

I can't listen to this part of 'when you were mine' by Dixie Chicks without getting a lump in my throat 😓

"I can give you two good reasons
To show you love's not blind
He's two and she's four and you know
They adore you
So how can I tell them you've changed your mind"

😭

Outoutout · 21/05/2019 23:19

The Dutchman, a song by The Clancy Brothers.

The chorus is fucking heart breaking.

whattheactualfuckery · 14/05/2019 01:14

And if a double-decker bus
Crashes into us
To die by your side
Is such a heavenly way to die

I've never been able to forget these lines in The Smiths song There is a light that never goes out

Lozz22 · 10/05/2019 14:37

Gone too soon by Daughtry. We lost our Baby on Christmas Day 2018.

Rockbird · 27/01/2019 02:56

@AntsDeck thank you, what a lovely thing to say. Apologies, I've only just seen this.

WhoPooped · 26/01/2019 15:01

The song “Where the lost things go” from the new Mary Poppins film hurts my heart.
It’s so beautifully written and I think of cousin’s children after she sadly passed away a couple of years ago.

IndieTara · 23/01/2019 22:16

Nick Drake -Northern Sky
Dire Straits - Romeo and Juliet

lilywillywoo · 23/01/2019 20:12

Chasing Cars- Snow Patrol
This Is Me- my DD2 has taken to singing this when she wants to see me cry
Let It Go

AntsDeck · 22/01/2019 21:09

@Rockbird I'm sorry to hear of your struggles, but you matter to people and those that don't see you for who you are, do not matter!

You do you and rock while you do it

Christina perri - jar of hearts

I know I can't take one more step towards you
'Cause all that's waiting is regret
Don't you know I'm not your ghost anymore
You lost the love I loved the most

Rockbird · 19/11/2018 00:20

These are the Days of Our Lives - Queen. I cry every single time I hear this.

And cheesy I know but This is Me - Keala Settle. I've spent all of my life feeling I have to apologise for being me. I'm fat, I'm odd, I likely have ASD, I struggle with most things. This song gives me a tiny bit of confidence when I think of it.

pineapplepromises · 19/11/2018 00:00

Will Young ‘Who Am I?’ Cried to it for months knowing I needed to split up with my partner at the time. Eventually did and am so glad!

toherdoor · 28/10/2018 12:13

Ben Folds Five "The Luckiest"

Next door there's an old man who lived to his nineties and one day
Passed away in his sleep,
And his wife, she stayed for a couple of days, and passed away
I'm sorry I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong,

MsMarshaKlein · 28/10/2018 11:45

Precious little angel take a look at what you've done
I thought my life was over but it's only just begun
I was lost before you came.
(Precious by Annie Lennox)

Before I became pregnant with my son (now 26) I had my first and very serious bout of depression. I felt there was no way forward, no future. I became pregnant just as the anti-depressants started working. My son gave me back my life. This song doesn't bring a tear to my eye, it makes me sob.

All of Cloudbusting by Kate Bush and I absolutely cannot explain why. I just have to hear the opening bars and I well up, very embarrassing when it's playing in the background at Superdrug, believe me.

All of Chocolate by Snow Patrol because because it reminds me of the lost love of my life and all of Bright Lights by Placebo because the words pretty much describe how I managed to move on and discover strengths I didn't know I had

Footymum81 · 02/10/2018 01:13

Leave right now, Will Young. Reminds me of telling my ex that I was pregnant and discussing what to do
Dry your Eyes, The Streets. From when DD was a baby and I was dealing with the constant crying/clingyness you get when they're tiny.
When you're gone, April Lavigne. My now DH sent it to me saying that was how he felt when we were apart....
Alive and Kicking, Simple Minds. Played at the end of our local football club's matches after they were saved from going bust. Reminds me of the 'comedown' after the intense emotions of watching the game, you could still hear it as you walked away from the ground.
Knights of Cydonia, Muse. Last song of their set at Download, 50k people singing along "no-ones going to take me alive, the time has come to make things right, you and I must fight for our rights, you and I must fight to survive"

Mrsorganmorgan · 19/09/2018 20:04

"When there's no one else, look inside yourself
Learn how to begin
To trust the voice within"

and the first line - ""Young girl don't cry"

Story of my life as a young girl

Christine Agualera " The Voice Within"

MyNameIsNotSteven · 19/09/2018 19:42

Ha, this reminds me of the first song that did this to me - Starship, Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now. I was about 8 years old and had a long distance crush.
