To tell you about my first night with my son?

Ok awful use of AIBU so I apologise but just wanted to share Grin

Bought home my long awaited, much loved adopted 12 month old baby boy yesterday!

He fell asleep in his cot at 7pm - usually sleeps all the way through to 7am but woke up at 3am. Could hear him on the baby monitor chatting away happily to himself (so no waking up confused or scared!). Eventually started to fuss so I went in and changed his nappy as it was soaks through, changed his pyjamas and bed sheets, but he wouldn't settle back in his cot so bought him back in with me and DH where he fell asleep curled up with me. At about 5am he was obviously dreaming of something funny as he was chuckling away in his sleep. We then got up about an hour ago and he is happily playing around with me and giving me cuddles after having his breakfast Smile

I know it's early days and it's likely to get harder the next few days as he starts to realise he is missing his foster carer, but omg I am so happy and in love with my little chap.

Welcome to the world of no sleep Mama!!! What a lovely post to read and how beautiful to see that you've all found each other. And you just follow your maternal instinct and do what's right for you and your son; we're the only animals on this planet that DON'T sleep with our young and it's madness. You keep snuggling and loving your little man all you want and all he needs. Congratulations xx

Glitterandunicorns · 11/01/2018 13:01

What a lovely story! Congratulations, OP! Thanks

StepAwayFromGoogle · 11/01/2018 12:53

OMG, that poem! I am sitting in a cafe blubbing. Thankfully, I have the tail end of flu so just look very ill rather than deranged.

OP, you sound like a wonderful Mum. Our DD co-slept with us and still comes in halfway through the night. She's just turned three and I know it's going to break my heart when she stops doing it. Hope you enjoy every single moment.

I vote for classics too!

SmashingCucurbita · 11/01/2018 12:12

There seems to be something in my eye!

Congratulations

OhCalamity · 11/01/2018 11:50

I woke up this morning with 5yo DS snuggled in between us. It happens a few times a week and I tell myself when I'm getting squished out of the bed by him that these years are flying by, and I'm enjoying every moment of snuggles while I can.

Congratulations on your son's homecoming. Nothing wrong with being in a loved up cocoon with him and getting to know each other.

stayathomegardener · 11/01/2018 11:48

This must be a record, 3 of your 4 posts have made me cry!
Congratulations to you and your DH.
What a lucky little boy your son is to have you both.

Totally nominating this for classics as it's so lovely and represents the best of Mumsnet.

RosiePosiePuddingPie · 11/01/2018 11:40

Isadora2007 · 11/01/2018 11:35

Oh. Your post has made me cry in a good way. What a little treasure indeed. Enjoy the skin to skin and the morning cuddles... you CANNOT spoil a baby or child with love and affection.
Enjoy your son, Mummy. 💕

Helbelle75 · 11/01/2018 11:32

I have something in my eye! What a beautiful post, I'm so happy for you.
No need to tell you to enjoy every second because I know you will do.
I agree that babies can't be cuddled or loved too much.

escorpion · 11/01/2018 11:31

Many congratulations OP. My son is currently snuggling with me. Nothing better than this bonding time so you have him in your bed as long as you like!! We have kicked snoring DH out the bed into another room. Hehehe. More space for us. So pleased you have your boy and he has you x

fastfrank · 11/01/2018 11:30

Ellendegeneres · 11/01/2018 11:21

I’m voting this for classics. The best Aibu I’ve ever read.
Congratulations on your little one, it sounds like you’ve found your soulmate in him. Funny how someone can come into our lives and all of a sudden you know why you were put on this earth- to love and know them.
Your son is very lucky to have you op xx

Don't worry about rod for your own back (there is a very funny Hurray for Gin post on making rods for your own back, worth a read!) enjoy every cuddle and many, many congrats on your lovely little boy x

SandSnakeofDorne · 11/01/2018 11:09

NotYourMummy

So agree ... I'm 46 and still like to climb into bed with my mum!!

Perfectwithbrie · 11/01/2018 11:01

Warmest congrats to both yourself and your husband on your new arrival. These early days are so so precious and go so fast so enjoy and treasure all these special moments. Are you on leave? Got any plans?

My son was born 3 days after I went on leave and in somewhat traumatic way and I wasn't very well after he was born as I kept getting flashbacks. I went to work when he was exactly 5 months and I was such a mess. The only way I survived it is due to co sleeping. He sleeps in my arms. It strengthened our bond and made us both happy. It was the thing I looked after all day. He's never slept in a cot. He's 23 months today and still co sleeping. I am now expecting a second baby and she will be here in a few months and also planning to co-sleep with her.

Congrats to all three of you, you all have such a beautiful story to share Flowers

MrsHathaway · 11/01/2018 10:49

This is exactly why I don't give a toss about the SW's suggestion to do bedtime exactly as his foster carer did it, knowing the foster carer would let him cry it out. He needs to know that when he needs me I'll come running!

This is just beautiful. Fair enough if he's used to a bath, story, milk at bedtime and you carry on with that, but he's in a different house so he can sleep in a different bed if that helps him to understand he's firmly cemented in your family now.

Congratulations to Bang, MrBang and MiniBang FlowersBrewCake

Sparrowlegs248 · 11/01/2018 10:48

Oh and re Co sleeping. My first son so slept totally from 7 weeks. Once he could roll he started the night in his cot, then co slept after. He was sleeping through in his own cot by 15 months (his slept as a small baby had been awful)

Ds2 is 11 months today and starts the night in his cot then in with my from whenever he wakes. It's lovely.

CryingMessFFS · 11/01/2018 10:44

Massive congratulations! He sounds like such a lovely little lad. Enjoy these Mummy & baby snuggles 😍

ShovingLeopard · 11/01/2018 10:43

So happy to read this! Haven't RTFT, but I think with an adopted child you are doing exactly the right thing in doing attachment-style sleeping. Wishing you all the very best.

Taffeta · 11/01/2018 10:43

How very, very wonderful! How beautifully you write to describe such a special time.

It’s made me badly want a cuddle with my grouchy, hormonal 14 yo DS!

ToesInWater · 11/01/2018 10:40

What a beautiful thread, congratulations on becoming a mum.
