Mods, feel free to delete this if it's not okay!

I've been here some months now, and I've noticed a lot of little in-jokes around that come from old threads, some of which are in Classics, etc. Usually when I come across a reference that I don't recognize, someone is kind enough to explain it to me (and sometimes even link the original thread!) but I thought it might be nice, and kind of fun, to gather together as many as we can in one thread!

I'll start. The one that always sticks out to me is the one about the Mexican house thief. That's from this thread.

The other one that had me in absolute stitches was the saga of Sharon, the wasp, and the wine that never reached the carpet, which starts here, and apparently continues here with someone "t-rexing in the Asda"... Hysterical, I tell you.

I'm really hoping some long-time MNers will be along to link to such joys as "cancel the check"; "pom bears"; "Maui"; and the one where everyone MumsNetted as their toddlers :D

(I'm sorry if this is against some unwritten rule. It's not REALLY a thread about a thread, it's a thread about a lot of threads...)

OH WHAT ABOUT THE VICTORIAN CLOSET CHEST THING? In the woman's attic, and people were gagging for her to get it open, and she never came back!?!?

Thanks for explaining the Biscuit. I still think it looks like a pineapple hors doeuvre of some kind.

Fat balls is utterly hilarious.

I have to say, Mumsnet is by far the most comedic forum I have ever come across. I'm not British so to me, the posts are full of dry wit and the best kind of British humour. I feel like I'm reading Bridget Jones' diary half the time.

plominoagain · 20/07/2017 02:54

The Janet and Roy Christmas round robin - first read it on a train and failed woefully to stop myself snorting with laughter .

choochooo · 20/07/2017 02:36

Has anyone posted the one where a neighbour was using their swimming pool yet? I loved that one!

EKL was one of my all time favourites.

I've just woken my dh up laughing g at the buggy lady talking to herself - I've read that one so many times but it's just so funny.

I was sure 'naice' ham was because the person had spelled it 'naice' on the shopping list

The Biscuit is 'takes the biscuit' is it not? But done to death now.

There's a brass neck thread in classics that stole hours of my life once reading. It was hilarious.

Also spooky threads I love - particularly the one where OP thought there was someone living in her loft.

Parking threads always need a diagram and the solution will always be penguin bollards.

The creme egg one is one of my favourite "in-jokes".

I'll try and search for the thread, but basically the OP was in a public loo and a mum with a toddler asked her if she could wait until they left before drying her hands as the noise from the hand dryers scared her child. The OP agreed, then the mum proceeded to make a phone call, and not leave! So the OP dried her hands anyway, not wanting to wait til the mum had finished, and the mum lost it and screamed at her.

It mainly consisted of the usual "YANBU" responses but a few weirdos posters suggested the mum had a very bad day and that the OP should have taken her for a cup of tea and a chat Hmm one poster suggested she should've given her a creme egg Grin

So if you see anyone saying "give her a creme egg" it's probably a sarcastic suggestion!

bookmarking this thread all day long. this is what I MN for Grin

Balaboosteh · 20/07/2017 00:10

Does anyone else remember the one where the OP was on a diet and finally worked out that one of her colleagues was a feeder who was bringing in home made cake and then getting very angry and snide when op refused to eat any because she was envious of OP's weight loss. Even lodged a complaint with HR saying that OP was uncooperative and not a team play

Imstyledilemma · 19/07/2017 23:54

Penetration Man had me laughing Grin.
That's well worth a read

Skittykitty · 19/07/2017 23:40

Naked panpipesmentioned earlier was from a thread about the most bizarre thing you've seen at a baby and toddler group.

tamaramcnamara · 19/07/2017 23:25

Daddaddad thanks. I think I understand now

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 19/07/2017 23:23

YY
Oh god the fat balls one.
I'll see if I can find it

Scrowy · 19/07/2017 23:21

I've lost count of how many years (and name changes) I've been here for but I was definitely here long before gluezilla. (Can't believes that was 4 years ago Shock)

That being the case WHY is this the first time I have ever heard of the museum of toddler art thread!!

I actually read it with a little sadness, if someone started a thread like that these days it would be full of people eye rolling and stuff within minutes.

Penguin bollards was a good one.

faithinthesound · 19/07/2017 23:17

I've come across another one that I don't recognize: the fake dead cat on the wall???

This Is Just To Say (From the Bride)
I have sent out
the save-the-dates
that were for
my wedding

and which
you were probably
thinking
meant you were invited

Forgive me
I just wanted you
to help with
the decorating

This Is Just To Say (From the OP)
I have received
the save-the-date
that were for
your wedding

and which
i assumed
(stupidly)
meant we were invited

Forgive me
I won't be helping
you are deluded
and on glue

Penis beaker and tiny Korean lady aren't very funny, sorry. But the one about things people say during sex had me crying with laughter. Shock

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/07/2017 23:13

I think Angela Hernandez was in the room but it was someone else who pointed out that she wasn't AH.

elephantoverthehill · 19/07/2017 23:12

Post away!

DadDadDad · 19/07/2017 23:11

TheDuck - you missed the best bit - not only did she introduce herself as AH, the real AH was at the back of the room, and may even have piped up at that point "actually, I'm Angela Hernandez!" Grin

faithinthesound · 19/07/2017 23:08

I am SO upset right now. I'm reading Gluezilla, and everyone's posting poem-response suggestions, and I have the BEST ONE, and it's too late!!!

Would anyone mind if I posted it here just to get it out of my system??

OP posts:
TheDuckSaysMoo · 19/07/2017 23:00

No, I'm Angela Hernandez!

Unfortunately the OP's posts have been removed from the AH thread (please correct me if I am mis-remembering) but in summary she introduced herself at a meeting as AH, which was not her real name and was actually the name of someone else. The thread was awesome.

elQuintoConyo · 19/07/2017 22:51

Oh dear god NYE!

I can remember most of these but some i'm bookmarking to read later.

Your minge! still cracks me up!

And the naked panpiper in the swimming pool changing room. Cannot for the life of me remember the thread title or subject. I imagine it's in Classics somewhere.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 19/07/2017 22:42

That's what I thought. I could see a ban hammer being swung in my direction. Grin

DadDadDad · 19/07/2017 22:29

tamara - MN Bingo is just a sarcastic way of identifying the tendency for certain stock responses to crop up in answer to a given topic.

So, if someone starts a thread about a child having difficult behaviour, then sooner or later a poster will come along to suggest they might be autistic. - TICK!

Difficult MIL? "Classic narcissist!" - TICK!

How do I tell my friend I'm not doing this? "No is a complete sentence" TICK! BINGO!
