Or is my neighbour about my laundry...?

Name changed in case she's on mumsnet

Don't know NDN well. We are quiet and (I thought!) inoffensive so no issues for the last 6 months we've lived here. There's a low fence between our gardens.

Given that I live in the west of scotland, it's a rare opportunity to hang clothes out on the line to dry, which DH and I have been doing the past few days.

Today NDN appeared at the door and asked me to "be more careful" with my laundry. I initially thought something had blown into her garden and apologised. She said no, that us hanging out "personal items" was embarrassing for her and she didn't want her young sons (who are late primary age I think) seeing things like that. After clarifying she meant bras and knickers I admit I snorted with laughter a bit and said "but don't they see YOUR pants drying indoors!?" to which she said that I clearly didn't want to help and that she'd ask her DH to come over later to speak to my DH once he's in from work!

I have not brought my laundry in and have just done another load. She's glaring from her conservatory. AIBU to ignore her? Or should I bring my offensive undies in off the line?

Having perused a fair few MN neighbour threads recently, I'm thinking we should patent a wheelable, adjustable, "Garden Modesty Screen".

Dragons' Den, anyone?

laundryninja · 26/05/2017 19:56

Oh that's interesting Fliptop. I'm not sure how long they've been over here. We bought it from a family and the line was all set up when we moved in though, so I imagine they used it on the (rare) dry days too..... maybe this is why the family moved out! Laundry harassment! Shock

DH is a Dubliner. A large, bearded, Irish wrestler.

Sod the kitten, I wanna see photos of the H!! Wink

Fliptophead · 26/05/2017 19:54

Hanging out clothes isn't that common in the states so maybe that's why it seems weird to them? Still...

Salmotrutta · 26/05/2017 19:52

Did you not read the thread Madwoman? The DH is a legend.

Kitten is gorgeous Grin

Madwoman5 · 26/05/2017 19:50

Hope your dh laughs his knob off at this request. If she is that sensitive she can erect a six foot fence. Get your bikini out and get sunbathing!

Salmotrutta · 26/05/2017 19:50

I went to school with a girl who actually did wear bloomers!! Shock

And I wasn't born in Victorian times - honest.

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 26/05/2017 19:49

^ Cute kitten Smile

Ladymadness · 26/05/2017 19:47

I'd do a load of just underwear and put it all on the line Grin x

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 26/05/2017 19:47

OP,

Bewilder her completely: alternate your normal stuff with a complete washing line of only very respectable bloomer-type undies every few days (charity shops/ vintage clearance sales a good source).

Hooray for your DH, too! Star Star Star

NDN laundry threads on a barmy warm Friday Grin

OP you can move here, out neighbours once had a go at us as we never used to peg clothes out in their view (we had a maiden near the house), so they didn't believe we did our own washing Hmm

laundryninja · 26/05/2017 19:44

Fliptop that's hilarious!

For those requesting, I have enticed the kitten out from under the bed. She's mainly white and has a ginger face and side. She enjoys shedding and chewing my trainers. Grin

If it helps the Irate Scots, the NDNs are from America 😂

She is being ridiculous. It's actually rather funny, perhaps she's worried that it's actually her husband who stares at them too much not kids?..

marthastew · 26/05/2017 19:42

I thought this was going to be about bin bags.

Fragglez · 26/05/2017 19:41

I've just read this to DP. He has announced he is going to go and complain to our NDN about his DW's underwear on the line....

But then we realised we have no idea if she does line dry it. Because neither of us are overly invested in her pants...

coughingbean · 26/05/2017 19:41

Your DH is brilliant!

Frankie89 · 26/05/2017 19:39

Omg this is amazing! My neighbours are depressingly boring so I have no stories!

iamreginaphalange · 26/05/2017 19:37

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂love it
I'd hang up my Bridget jones knickers right in her window lol

MyOtherNameIsTaken · 26/05/2017 19:37

I do hope that you've got tomorrow's scanties wash ready, op! Remember 2 pegs for each pair, make sure those gussets get a good airing!

Salmotrutta · 26/05/2017 19:36

Jeezy peeps OP!

They are utterly crackers.

And I second BellaMoon - we aren't all prudish Presbyterian nutters up here in Scotland! Grin

I've been to London and everything!

BrexitSucks · 26/05/2017 19:35

You need to hang these out to dry very soon.

darkedonwashing · 26/05/2017 19:34

Any of this tickle yer fancy OP

She would probably shit kittens about this though.
