How to feel like you're on holiday when you're not?

I'm really craving a week (or several) in the sun but have no plans for holidays this year. How can I recreate that holiday feeling at home?

Get a sunburn then let a seagull grab your sandwich and fly away (the seagull is the one flying away not you...).

Pack up 2 gigantic suitcases that you must sit on to zip..carry out to the car...scratching the bumper as you attempt to load up in the boot...drop at least one, if not both on your foot...a week later, remove baggage,
drop at least one on foot again...take into house, stick under the bed and never unpack...finally after months of not being able to locate several items of missing clothing you work out that they are probably in "vacation" baggageGrin @AlCalavicci, @AnneKipankitoo

Anything to add to this reinstated zombie thread that is very apropos?😂

Panic as you realise there’s only two days of your holiday left. You haven’t done anything intellectual.

Google “Things to do in ”. Feel sad, and open a 2 litre wine box.

Skooblies1 · 10/06/2017 09:13

For a really authentic feel add some mosquito bites to your legs and one foot with red marker pen. Then hobble around in flip flops as if it's too painful to wear other shoes. You must do this on day one. Whenever you sit down elevate the bad foot to minimise the 'swelling'. Moan about it. A lot.

Asmoto · 10/06/2017 00:36

Ask your partner to throw a random item that you use daily into the bin, to replicate that "Oh, shit, I forgot to pack X" experience.

NilesCrane · 10/06/2017 00:26

Put your used toilet roll in the bin instead of down the loo.

Ha! Sounds familiar. Greece or Canary Islands, perhaps?

C0untDucku1a · 10/06/2017 00:11

Lie on the floor of your living room, wearing sun cream, and read five books in a week. Every so often complain about it being too hot. Phone a friend and ask what the weather is like where they are. Put your used toilet roll in the bin instead of down the loo.

Asmoto · 10/06/2017 00:00

Install a fridge in your bedroom and stock it with miniature spirits, packets of peanuts and tiny Pringles tubes. Flush a tenner down your loo each time you eat something from it.

Thank you Lorna for moving the thread. Was wanting to add that Bronze Goddess parfum is nice, if you like vanilla, but nothing like the eau fraiche at all, certainly doesn't smell at all summery. Not a fan of Bobbi Brown Beach either, that one smells like a cold rainy beach to me. I've looked up reviews on fragrantica and I don't get the references to heat at all.

Bronze Goddess parfum is nothing like the eau fraiche. A lot of vanilla.

Shamelessly bumping.

I have been liberally spraying Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess in the vain hope that it will make me feel like I'm on a beach.

Watch re-runs of Eurovision to recreate evening entertainment in the hotel

Visit your local corner shop every day and buy a selection of random dismal gifts on the final day to give to your nearest and dearest

Speak to your neighbours who you've happily ignored for the past 5 years and ask them highly personal questions about their jobs, all previous holidays they've ever been on and their views on Brexit

BikeRunSki · 02/04/2017 20:36

Dhl your suitcase to a place you are not going,

Hang out in an overpriced, poor quality tie dye t shirt that is 2 sizes too big and a sarong for 3 days.

Ask courier to send your suitcase back after 3 days. Make sure you leave the house for 4 nanoseconds so they can try and deliver it.

jumpingjellyfishsquids · 02/04/2017 20:26

This thread is brilliant.

Holiday row

Spend too much

Eat crap

Eat nice food

Dry too much

Get dehydrated

Have fun

Be miserable

Yep. That's my holiday checklist ✅

qualityjaisket · 02/04/2017 18:52

Shamelessly bumping because these are all making me laugh Grin

Maid I thoroughly recommend a special detour.

saffronwblue · 31/03/2017 01:53

And have a riproaring argument with your DH about your navigation and his not listening.

saffronwblue · 31/03/2017 01:51

Find a gelati shop and pay 3 times what the locals pay.
Take a sick DC to a doctor who does not speak English and act out what the issue is.
Take medicine in suppository form.
Have a siesta just when your neighbour is doing really loud DIY involving 2 hours hammering and drilling.
Cross a road with several lanes of traffic including animals and no pedestrian crossing.
Take a taxi the long way round. Extra points for how circuitous the route is and how inflated the bill.

Destinysdaughter · 31/03/2017 01:40

Mumbod that made me lol!! Grin

stayathomegardener · 31/03/2017 00:08

Don't forget to post your holiday Instagrams.
Hashtag to your hearts content.
You will be well traveled this summer!

ShatnersBassoon · 30/03/2017 23:38

Oh, Maid. I am sorry Sad. But you have sampled Gloucester's green curves and quiet cleanliness?

MaidOfStars · 30/03/2017 21:43

Going to my parents, I exit the M5 before Gloucester services. Strensham is our last chance to stop Sad
