I just fancy a laugh and there's a lot of traffic here. So...mine is that on DD1's first birthday, I made the entire room sing Happy Birthday to her in a WHISPER so that she wouldn't be scared by all the loud singing. Blush

And they all did it too! Grin Bless them.

Now you!

When my ds was around one, he used to like to take a teddy to bed with him. I used to sneak in and remove it every night after he'd dozed off as I didn't like the thought of him sleeping in anything but a completely empty cot Confused even now a year and a half later I find myself removing the random teddies he takes to bed and leaving the mummy approved one. Of course they're back in bed by morning now he can get out of bed Hmm Grin

My DH took the 4 mo pfb upstairs to change his nappy and bumped his head on the side of the changing table. Pfb cried and then was fine. We immediately got a taxi and took him to PAU where they clearly humoured us and sent us home.

We sing Soft Kitty every night as a round to him and if we forget I silently sing it on my head when we go to bed. Pfb is 18 months and soft kitty will probably be his first words!

Jellybean81 · 06/12/2016 00:11

For the first few months of life I only bathed my pfb in bottled water. The water in our house was too hard to risk their precious skin Confused

MindTheDrawings · 05/12/2016 23:52

I've not read all of the thread yet but I cringe at the HUGE list I wrote for ds childminder when he first started going to her, he was probably about 18 months old. I bet she thought Hmm you serious Blush

N0tfinished · 05/12/2016 23:36

I sobbed when I accidentally bumped my shoulder off of the door jamb while carrying my PFB. He was jostled & made a little face. HmmI was heartbroken that I'd been so careless!

I wonder if GP's swop these stories when they meet up. The pp about the baby with short arms is brilliant!!

I breastfed dd1 and was so paranoid about her getting enough that I kept a little note book of her feeding times and which side she last fed from and how long each feed was.Blush

I think it stemmed from when we were in the hospital after having her. I didn't realise that very new babies can be sleepy and sometimes need waking for feeds. After constantly being told that they 'wake when they're hungry' by everyone when pregnant and taking it a bit too literally, she ended up a little bit jaundiced, fortunately it was picked up early, the midwives told me off and made me feel rubbish. So after that I got a bit obsessed. It must have calmed down by around 7/8months and she was eating more solid food. I think I still have the book somewhere.

I did similar with dd2 but just on my phone, mainly because I was rubbish at remembering when her last feed was and what boob she fed from. It wasn't in the obsessive (yet seemed completely normal to me at the time..) way I was doing it with dd1. And I only kept track of the last feed rather than create entire lists for each day.

I'm pretty sure that when dd1 went to stay at my mums for the first time at around 12months old I wrote a list for her. Including a step by step guide on how to put dd to bed and what to do if X happens. My mum must have thought I'd lost the plotBlush

I've nominated this for Classics.
We need to keep all the bonkerness for eternity Grin

Sunbeam18 · 05/12/2016 23:04

We also took DS to the local kids hospital A&E with a high temperature to be told that we could remove one layer of clothes and open a window to cool him. We hadn't thought of that.

Sunbeam18 · 05/12/2016 22:53

When we began introducing some formula and so used a steriliser I took the instructions about how many mls of water to put in the base of the steriliser very seriously and actually measured them out in a measuring jug

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 05/12/2016 22:49

Dh diligently brought me a glass of water while i breastfed ds1 in the night

Which i was too frightened to drink incase i dropped the glass on his head

SixthSenseless · 05/12/2016 22:46

My pfb was a terrible eater. To try and boost vitamin intake I would seive a couple of fresh strawberries through a tea strainer into his milk.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 05/12/2016 22:36

My sil kept a notebook of every BF with times, which boob and for how long for the whole 12 months she BF with her DC1. She got really upset one day when she couldn't find it as she couldn't remember which side her DC started on last time so couldn't start until we had all helped find it. Funny enough she didn't do it with DC2.

SixthSenseless · 05/12/2016 22:32

Once I reached about 35 weeks pg I worried about my baby being bored and lonely. In Utero. So spent hours talking to, stroking and patting my bump.

SoberSusan · 05/12/2016 22:23

I had a very bad cold when PFB was about 3 months old. I wore a muslin tied over my nose and mouth (a la John Wayne) every time I held him/BF - so pretty much continuously for a week - so he wouldn't get it. Blush

NorksAreMessy · 05/12/2016 22:20

DH was too scared to hold PFB for about three days. He used to carry her around on a cushion in case he snapped her in two like a twig.
Very regal she looked too :)

AldrinJustice · 05/12/2016 22:17

Pricesspineapple I use the dettol laundry cleanser in all my washes Grin but I only used fairy non bio and comfort for DD's clothes which had to go in a load that was just her clothes, no one else's! especially not DH's smelly socks

We also did the bohemian rhapsody song to quieten her down! What is it about that song? Nothing else worked on her

princesspineapple · 05/12/2016 22:13

I washed all DD's new clothes with dettol laundry cleanser before she wore them.
Explained this at baby group when one of the other mums asked why don't exchange clothes for next size up if it didn't get worn... And cried thinking of all the potential tags-on germy clothes touching DD's lovingly detolled sleepsuits in the wardrobe! Blush

wineusuallyhelps · 05/12/2016 22:04

I have already shared my PFB moments but just thought of one from some close relatives.

They would not go anywhere in the afternoons EVER because it was time for their DS's nap. They would literally up and leave wherever they were so they could be home by 1pm sharp and The Schedule could be adhered to. This went on until he was 3 years old....

ricecrispies16 · 05/12/2016 22:01

I remember walking at the side of my pfb pushchair to create a shadow to protect her eyes from the sun, whilst still holding onto the handle, I walked a fair distance in that position!!

CharleyDavidson · 05/12/2016 22:01

I wish I'd warmed the moses basket/cot mattress with a hot water bottle. Both DDs would wake instantly on being put down on a normal temp mattress from a warm cuddle.

DD1 - weaned on homemade purees. DD2 - finger food (easier!) and the odd jar.

DD2 - I had a list of every word she'd said and the order she said new words. It ran to about 200 words.

Not a bloody clue what her sister's first word was!

Loved the description of the posters who were precious about their pfbs being carried down the stairs. DH actually dropped DD (and she bounced down half the staircase) one night when he'd let me go to bed for a sleep. I went from fast asleep to running down the stairs in the blink of an eye - and he refused to carry her up or down stairs for the next year!

She was alright, thankfully.

lilyb84 · 05/12/2016 22:01

Incidentally we're not planning a 1st birthday party for ds... Hmm

lilyb84 · 05/12/2016 21:59

I can thank hormones for mine. Second night at home, so day 3 after having ds, DH and I watched Kick Ass - a film I'd previously loved. I watched in horror, literally hiding behind my hands at the most violent parts, then finally turned to DH in floods of tears and wailed "one day we're going to die and leave him all alone".

Whatallama until I had ds I only had kitten stories too. We had a 1st birthday party for our oldest cat and invited all our friends... Grin

belgina · 05/12/2016 21:47

I carried ds around the house with me for the first few weeks too. He came even came along to the toilet!

I sterilised everything, including his bowl & spoon, until I saw him put random stuff from the floor in his mouth and I realised I was being stupid.

I did the hat on/off thing too. Can't have him overheating!

We entered him in a baby photo competition and couldn't believe he didn't win. Saw the picture back years later and he really wasn't as beautiful as we thought.

As a mw, I have also witnessed quite a lot of pfb behaviour too. Depending on how bonkers, I either go with it or gently suggest that other ways are possible. Although it can be amusing to watch the ultra gentle bum cleaning and dressing techniques people have.

bluebellsparklypants · 05/12/2016 21:44

yumscrumfatbum - that's hysterical !
Some great ones, I can't say much done few of the same things 😳

NorfolkEnchance · 05/12/2016 21:34

Loving these!

I warmed babywipes on my naked belly for DC1 overnight and kept the packet on the radiator during the day. DC2 got them cold. DC1 also got a towel on the changing mat to prevent a cold bottom.

I pulled the double pushchair backwards so the sun didn't go in their eyes only a fortnight ago 😳 Until I removed half the skin from the back of my foot.

I cut DC1s sandwiches up into 0.5 cm cubes as I was worried about choking until about 11 months. DC2s first food was a quaver at 5 months.

I used to happily leave DC1 upstairs in bed from about 3 months old (with the monitor on) but i spent the first 7 months of DC2s life sat in a dark bedroom in silence from 7pm every night!
