I just fancy a laugh and there's a lot of traffic here. So...mine is that on DD1's first birthday, I made the entire room sing Happy Birthday to her in a WHISPER so that she wouldn't be scared by all the loud singing. Blush

And they all did it too! Grin Bless them.

Now you!

Sorry if it's already been mentioned but for me the funniest ever is the one where someone wondered aloud to her husband, in all seriousness, whether she should go and visit her friend (who had a baby the same age) because the friends baby wasn't anywhere near as cute as hers and it might upset her friend 😄

paxillin · 06/12/2016 14:04

I get eczema, bio plus extra rinse is best for me. But I do know people who really react to bio.

DeleteOrDecay · 06/12/2016 13:53

I guess you learn something every day!

paxillin · 06/12/2016 13:47

Bio contains lipases and proteases, they break down fat and protein rich stuff like sebum, blood, food stains etc. Without it, more of them remain. This can be helped by washing at higher temperature or rinsing more. Non bio is just soap, good for rinsing, much like the hand stuff.

DeleteOrDecay · 06/12/2016 13:43

We have to use non-bio because I get eczema otherwise. We've always used it for the whole household and our clothes always come out clean and smelling freshConfused

humphreyandlinnea · 06/12/2016 12:59

I didn't go on mumsnet when I had my pfb. I thought it was too bitchy and might somehow affect the aura in the house.

paxillin · 06/12/2016 12:56

Erm, isn't their own washing liquid normal?? DS is 18 months. I will now allow adult clothes into his load to make it up but then it all gets the non bio treatment... I didn't think I was pfb about it lol

Some people do this until baby is 23. I don't wash anything in non-bio because it doesn't bloody clean the clothes. Stains and smells can remain because of the lack of enzymes, might as well use baby shampoo.

If I had to use non-bio for a family member, I would do their own machine to make sure that the rest of the family have properly clean laundry at least.

April1983 · 06/12/2016 12:49

Loool some of these are so funny mostly because it's the kind of stuff we would all do in crazy moments!!

I'm ashamed to say that I do some of this stuff with my third baby who is almost 3 months old... Seperate wash with non bio etc.

When DS was 11 months old we went to stay at my mums for the night and I had forgotten the steriliser... The bottles could easily just have been soaked in some boiled water but no, I made my sister quickly go out to the local supermarket... At 11pm... and buy a steriliser even though he had enough sterilised bottles to last him til the next day anyway...

Nobody apart from my mum was allowed to change him or help me bathe him for the first 6 months. I would set up his bath and everything in the living room where it was much warmer after putting the heating on ALL day and wash him there. The whole process would take at least an hour, DD1 was washed in the bathroom from day 1...

I have been using cotton balls with warm water to clean my youngest ones bottom during the night incase the cold wipes wake her up too much... I have stopped now... Now I watch my sister and cousin be all pfb with their babies...

Vanillaradio · 06/12/2016 11:40

I was the opposite with heat, petrified ds was going to overheat and instantly drop dead.So followed the Grobag instructions to the letter for sleepwear even when he was obviously too cold and whipped off outdoor clothes and hat the second he got indoors even if it woke him up!
I still wash his clothes separately in non bio. He's 3Grin in my defence he does have bad ezcema but....

FuckShitJournalists · 06/12/2016 11:30

I have been laughing at these and reading them to my DP in stitches. "I've hardly been pfb at all!" I laughed last night. I then texted him this morning saying "I'm a bit worried because DD got hold of some bubble bath and I trusted her not to open it but she did and spilled it all over the floor, and now 45 minutes later I can't remember whether I wiped her hands so there's a chance some got on there and she licked it off without me realising!" He texted me back "pfb". And yes, I was being ridiculous...

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 06/12/2016 10:19

Oh, DD went to bed in a hat too! And a cardigan. Vest, baby gro, cardigan, hat and 2 blankets. It was March, she was small and losing weight, and the house is pretty draughty. I spent a fortune on heating oil and we sweltered until June arrived and I calmed down a bit.

I took the dog to the toilet with me. DD was fast asleep in her Moses basket (a big chunky one on a stand) and I was petrified that Ddog would leap up, knock the basket over and rip her throat out a la Hound of the Baskervilles. The poor confused dog had no intention of doing anything whatsoever apart from sleeping on the sofa. And this was actually an improvement from the times I put her in her pram and tried to cram it into our tiny shower room while I had a shower. And got out, dripping water and shampoo, to jiggle the handle to try to stop her crying.

Oh, and I would sit for 3 solid hours MNing without moving while she napped on me, with a completely dead leg, but too afraid to move in case I woke her up. DS never got that.

angelcurves18 · 06/12/2016 08:59

we got my first born dressed for the first time after she arrived( we tried not to make her cry which was a hard and long process ) we put a baby grow on with no vest top on .... the nurse came in and told us new borns lose to much heat and needed to be kept warm and a vest should be put on with the baby grow so we quickly changed her and went home..... because I felt such a bad mother for letting my baby freeze we made sure she went to bed with a hat ....mittens ...baby grow..... vest top AND a blanket on all night..... i now realise that was a bit over the top !!!!!

SixthSenseless · 06/12/2016 08:39

I am snorting with laughter at bathing a baby in bottled drinking water Grin

Soubriquet · 06/12/2016 08:12

Ok remember how I boasted I didn't have any PFB moments?

You've just reminded me of one...Xmas Blush

The washing machine

All of the dc's clothes as babies HAD to be washed in non bio laundry powder and persil comfort detergent.

On its own special load.

When Dh admitted he was washing them normally with everyone's clothes I went ballistic at him.

Didn't calm down until he pointed out he had been doing it for months and nothing had happened

Still insisted on doing it myself until the stuff ran out. And then I didn't buy any more.

I was worse with ds (second born as I bonded with him better)

SharingMichelle · 06/12/2016 07:12

I wouldn't read scary or dramatic books while breastfeeding pfb in case the negativity traveled up through my eyeballs and down into pfb via my milk.

Same with scary or unpleasant tv (including the news) but I sort of still hold with that now...

These are brilliant!

I think hope I wasn't that PFB with DD.

I was fuming with DFIL when he dipped his finger in his dessert (maple and nut tart or something) and put it in DD's mouth without checking with me first. I was fuming because it was her first taste of anything other than milk, I had not been the one to give it to her and it had nuts in it. Actually, I'm still pissed off about it! 😂

I sat in the back with DD until she was in a forward facing seat.

DP has a cousin whose DD is the same age as our DD. This girl is a bit reserved and always appears to look down her nose at my little cherub. I always think bad thoughts when my DD goes to give her a hug and this girl looks 'disgusted'. Makes me very angry and upset on behalf of DD. This girl is only just 3. Xmas Blush

inmyotherlife · 06/12/2016 06:47

The first time we left DS for an evening was when he was about 3 months old.
We went to the pub for dinner about half a mile away when our neighbour, farmers wife with 4 DC offered to babysit.
I texted when we arrived, refused a starter or a pudding and was back home in 40 minutes.
She must've thought we were barking Blush

TataEs · 06/12/2016 05:57

i didn't let people outside my direct family (and i was unhappy about anyone other than my mum) hold him.
my cousin and his girlfriend came to visit when he was 2weeks old and i wouldn't let her hold him, in case she dropped him, sat down, on the sofa.
he didn't eat chocolate until 18mo
i wouldn't let him eat his own birthday cake when he was one because it was shop bought and too much sugar.
i didn't let people touch him when out, if someone tried i'd loudly say 'please don't touch my baby'
i used the breathing monitor until he was nearly 2
i was convinced he would die from SIDS in the night and subsequently hardly ever relaxed enough to get more than 3 hours of broken sleep.
i took him to a baby group every day for his social development. from 7weeks.
i wouldn't let him in a car i wasn't driving.
i refused to let him participate in nursery walks outside the premises, convinced they'd let him run into traffic.
i drove him on his leaving nursery outing as the coach was lap belt only.

i'm a bit psb about ds2 tho as some of these apply to him him too ShockBlush

veiledsentiments · 06/12/2016 05:10

I don't think I was particularly PFB about mine. When I first came home from hospital my husband told me to go to sleep first for a few hours, then wake up and swap over! I was pretty incredulous and asked him if he planned on that idea for the next 18 years. He got over himself.

Plornish · 06/12/2016 04:40

I used to sing nursery rhymes to DD when I was breastfeeding her, because I thought it would be bad for her language development if I was silent. She once had a huge feed at the GP's and I sang for about forty minutes.

I timed her feeds obsessively, even in the middle of the night, though I didn't keep a record.

I was also paranoid about her overheating: once at the GP's (again!) I woke her up in the crowded waiting room to take off her snowsuit and she screamed for ages, poor mite. DH very kindly bought an air conditioner for her, but did point out from time to time that people manage to look after babies in much hotter climates. Since she's a winter baby, I now suspect she may have got too cold, rather than too hot.

princesspineapple · 06/12/2016 03:51

Aldrin we also have a separate baby clothes wash, mostly to avoid DP's socks as well! Our clothes have the green bio laundry tablets and DD's have blue...
In Sainsbury's DP phoned me to ask if we needed baby washing tablets and a pregnant lady got all paranoid that she'd been using the wrong kind to pre-wash her PFBs bedding because she used normal adult washing powder and didn't realise there was a baby kind!
Not sure which of them was more embarrassed, her for feeling clueless about laundry, or DP having to explain that our 8month old gets a separate detergent and softener to us GrinBlush

MooiVida · 06/12/2016 01:57

When we left the hospital to take PFB home I sat in the back and insisted OH drive the usually 35 minute drive between hospital and home at no more than 10/15mph, even that was too fast and dangerous for PFB.

I also didn't sleep overnight for a couple of weeks. I would only sleep when either my OH or mum was around to watch DS.

I started off with the home made organic baby food. He is now one and can get into a plastic box of celebrations, chooses what he wants and then sneaks to nanny for her to open the wrapper 🙄 He knows who is the soft touch.

I also shouted at an a&he doctor for giving him baby piriton at 10 months as it says on the box from 12 months. Luckily he was very understanding and calmed me down.

Feel a little crazy about the car thing on reflection.

BluBambu · 06/12/2016 00:52

I have done the sun shade thing, Dh and I took it in turns to walk at the side of the pram to shade his poor eyes!

The nhs guidelines state they should stay in the same room as you for 6 months - I took this literally as in the same room. Actually asked my mum if I could leave him in the living room while going to the loo! Blush

Also when we brought him home we thought we had to stay up and watch him so took shifts to sleep! That didn't last long.

Love the layers one! Laughed at so many of these Smile
Warming the changing mat has to be one of my faves though.
