AIBU to ask what is the thing you've done in 2016 that's made you proudest?

For me - despite being diagnosed with Cronh's disease, I carried on doing yoga classes all year. Now I'm looser, more relaxed, and a nagging shoulder pain from a 20 year car accident has gone.

What are you proudest of? It can be big, small or miniscule.

OP posts:
MedicMama · 01/12/2016 17:40

Graduated Medical School whilst being mummy to three children and pregnant with my fourth. It's been a busy ol' year Grin

RortyCrankle · 01/12/2016 17:40

acquiescence
Rorycrankle let's just hope you're feeling proud of that in the years to come, I think you will not be unfortunately. I think 2016 is one of the saddest and damaging years that I have witnessed in my adult life with Brexit being a focal point. So good idea for a positive thread OP.

I have absolutely no doubt that I will.

Oh dear, I see you're part of the doom and gloom brigade - do cheer up Grin

TinyTemperamental · 01/12/2016 17:39

Sold a few paintings (I'm an artist), started a small online arty business and cleared the assessments for the post of Special Constable and currently training for it.

WinterHoliday · 01/12/2016 17:36

I love reading these positive stories. I think we all need some positivity at the moment!

I'm proud of finishing my novel which I'd been working on for a while and being brave enough to show it to some friends and family for feedback. Hopefully 2017 will be the year I get it published!

hippospot · 01/12/2016 17:35

Got a job after 10 years SAHM, nothing very challenging but a huge confidence boost and hopefully the start of something meaningful.

We paid off our mortgage but can't tell anyone IRL!

FlorenceandtheWashingMachine · 01/12/2016 17:33

Made my first documentary for Radio 4 Smile

PlainJJane · 01/12/2016 17:33

Gave birth to my beautiful DD. She's the best thing that has ever happened to me.

MidMay · 01/12/2016 17:33

What a great thread OP.

For me, what makes me proudest is my acceptance of what's important in my life after a health scare and realising that my career does not define me (it had taken almost everything for far too long). Good advice on here contributed to the latter.

onitlikeacarbonnet · 01/12/2016 17:32

Been a big old shitbag of a year but pride is something I'm feeling more and more as the year goes on.

I started a healthy eating/exercise regime at the start of the year and to date have lost 6 stone with help from a fab crowd of ladies on mn. (You know who you are losers 😘)

My 'd'h announced at the start of June he'd been having an affair with my friend and he didn't love me anymore.
I'm proud of almost everything I've done since then including asking him to leave, selling our house, buying a new house for me and DC, packing and moving and now raising my DC with nothing but interference and demands from him.

I am proud that I asked for help, not least seeking counselling which is helping me recognise the abusive nature of our relationship.

I'm proud that my DC are largely unaffected by this period of instability and massive change and I'm proud that every day they tell me they love me.

But mostly I'm proud that I have kept my integrity, dignity and self respect when my instinct has been to shout from the rooftops to anyone who'd listen that my stbxh is a lying, cheating scumbag who is NOT superdad and certainly was not super husband.
I await karma with baited breath.

Footinmouthasusual · 01/12/2016 17:30

Helping my darling dil through pmt and supporting her to take care of dgd. Simultaneously suppporting my parents with altzimers and chronic heart disease and helping dd4 through A levels.

Bring on 2017.

fitzbilly · 01/12/2016 17:28

Wow some amazing things on here, will done everyone!!

I'm really proud that I continued running all through my pregnancy, including running a half marathon and running 5k the day before giving birth. I ran over 600 miles through the pregancy in total.

Got back out running three weeks after giving birth too, despite it being really hard!

TheFlounder · 01/12/2016 17:28

Me and DP got through the year and have a positive outlook for next year.

Bobochic · 01/12/2016 17:28

I was there for my father's 83rd birthday on 17 January and there when he died on 22 February. I was there for my aunt who was hospitalized and at death's door when her DC couldn't be there. I have taken on full responsibility for winding up my parents' estate when my sister couldn't do anything because her own husband died 5 weeks after our father. I have moved house, twice, and taken on all the organisation of that, and have continued to support the DC, two of whom have moved on this year. And I have continued to grow my business in all that.

FleshEmoji · 01/12/2016 17:26

Lost 2.5 stone.

Started new job where I've moved our server from a backend as a service onto our own machines running on Heroku. This was causing me much anxiety as the backend thing closes down for good in Jan 17, so the business would have been up shit creek if I'd failed.

Also took on a rescue dog, a lovely, affectionate animal and took him through two training courses and helped him over his separation anxiety.

Looked after my father when he broke his hip - he came to live with us and we quickly fitted out a bedroom for him & made the bathroom dad-safe.

Witchend · 01/12/2016 17:25

Coped with dd2 when she was self harming and writing suicidal messages. Got her the help she needed, and dealt with school.
And have not got upset in front of her when she was asking about something they had obviously discussed in counselling sessions which I hadn't realised how much I'd hidden the feelings.

Encouraged a friend to go for something I thought she'd be good at (and she is).

Titsywoo · 01/12/2016 17:24

I wanted to lose 5 stone, start exercising again and eat a lot more veg. I have achieved absolutely nothing :(

Well done to the rest of you who have done so well. I need to get my act together like you!

thegirlinthecar · 01/12/2016 17:23

Going into hospital for a week despite being terrified to sort out my arthritis which resulted in being fast tracked for new drugs and now feel essentially 'cured' . A bit of a pathetic thing to be proud of as it was for my own good but still .

iamamug · 01/12/2016 17:22

I supported my wonderful husband through a terrifying cancer ordeal including a big operation- and dumped a close friend who turned out to be very unsupportive despite me nursing her through her marriage break up .. I feel quite smug! And my husband has made a full recovery.

ImogenTubbs · 01/12/2016 17:20

Quit my job and moved to another country. Proud that I had the guts to go through with it and change my life. I'm not sure I'm making a huge success of it yet, but sometimes you have to take risks!

2016 has been a shit year for a lot of people I know as well as the wider world. Roll on 2017.

OurBlanche · 01/12/2016 17:19

Stated a business from scratch, no experience, no contacts, no idea!

It is doing quite well and I love it Smile

mum2Bomg · 01/12/2016 17:17

Wow MissWilla - a headstand?! I tried to do a roly poly a while ago and bottled it because I was scared of hurting myself!

mum2Bomg · 01/12/2016 17:16

Not 'proud' as such but I married the love of my life and our baby was due two days ago (not here just yet) so it's been a wonderful year for us and we both feel very lucky.

MissWillaCather · 01/12/2016 17:15

Did a headstand.

First one ever. I'm not young 😀

(I took up yoga too, op)

YouTheCat · 01/12/2016 17:13

Not killed anyone... yet.

Scribblegirl · 01/12/2016 17:12

  1. Bought a flat, 2. Smashed it professionally (i.e. got my career finally started in my late 20s) and 3. said yes to a man who wanted to marry me (actually, fuck it, the fact that he wanted to marry me was my proudest achievement of the last four years, I've obviously somehow become someone loveable!)

2016 (for me) has been an utter shit storm in terms of the outside world this year, but the other side of the coin is that it became the year I made a home and tentatively started to build my own family. Smile
