What's great about newborns?

I'm due DC very soon, a very much wanted baby. But all I can think about is the pure exhaustion and anxiety that I had with my first! I know there were good things, my brain just seems to be filtering them out.

So, kind mumsnetters, tell me what is just brilliant about having a newborn and a toddler. No need to throw in a dose of reality, I'm full of those thoughts already!

I think someone else mentioned it, but when they're upset and you hold them and they recognise you and calm down and you feel like the biggest hero in the world

Um. Everything (Except meconium).

They are so amazing and wonderful, you'll just stare at them in wonder and total awe.

YY to feeding noises. So delicious!

Sharesinpampers · 17/08/2016 19:45

Thank you all, feeling better already! Such lovely things you've shared.

I am looking forward to having DC cuddled on my stomach before they get too big Smile

I shouldn't have opened this thread. I swore no more babies but this is making me remember how cute they are.

avocadosweet · 17/08/2016 19:39

Shelagh I cried at that! I have a 4mo and a 3yo, they lie in DD1's bed together for a bedtime story and it is the most adorable thing to see them beside each other sucking their thumbs and holding hands. Aww.

Sparrowlegs248 · 17/08/2016 19:19

Lovely thread, pregnant with dc2.

The adult darts are hilarious.

They are so portable. Tiny even massive ds

You look at them and are constantly amazed that you grew this tiny perfect being.

ToastyFingers · 17/08/2016 19:17

Shelagh has just made me very broody. 7mo dd is not a squishy peepy kidney bean baby at all anymore and I miss it already.

Pinkheart5915 · 17/08/2016 19:10

Tiny hand and feet

The smell

Being able to cuddle them all day

The way they grip your fingers

How happy they look after having lots of milk

Extra cute clothes

Getting to know this tiny little person you made 💕 Aww

People bring you presents and cake

Pregancny is over

I've got 11 month ds and 2 week DD and they look very cute when together and ds is always careful when he touches her even without being told he has to be

Lilacpink40 · 17/08/2016 19:08

They grow up!
(They're ok, but I like the 6 weeks plus part where I can 'read' them more easily).

Cuddling in bed with them all day (I should have done this way more)

Oh yes the head! I rubbed my cheek against DS's head constantly as it was so soft

Getting to know this tiny new, little person

That everything is new and fascinating for them

Hopelass · 17/08/2016 19:00

Loving this thread! (30 weeks with DS2)

AButterflyLightsBesideUs · 17/08/2016 18:58

That gorgeous downy soft hair on their heads.

A little head that fits in the palm of your hand.

The hilarious and cute startle reflex.

Awe at the grown up sounding farts from something so small.

Really cute clothes.

Tiny fingers that can only just hold one of yours.

They don't talk at you incessantly or require you to engage in imaginative role play type games all day long.

Very cute tiny bottoms

Those deep bluey black swimming strangely wise and knowing eyes and they way they study you.

When they fuss and cry for other people and then settle instantly in your arms ha, auntie in law!

And yes.... not being pregnant anymore! And no longer having to panic about how birth is about to play out.

If you're lucky people send you flowers and bring cake.

coughingbean · 17/08/2016 18:55

You are all making me so broody!

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 17/08/2016 18:54

Not being pregnant any more is pretty good!

I absolutely loved having a newborn second time round. We knew what worked for us and did it without any angst or guilt. We put her down more and in the sling more so there was less time doing stuff. Having had a new baby in the family recently I can see why we were so knackered first time round - we spent the whole time interacting and doing stuff like grinning at the baby and fussing while she slept. Second time round baby fed, slept and fed some more with minimal attention from me because she was just there. Lovely.

WhatAreYouLookingAt · 17/08/2016 18:49

The little contented noises they make when they're feeding.

ParisGellar · 17/08/2016 18:48

I loved all the soft downy hair all over my little boy. Yy to pp's mention of the velvety head. His sleepy gorgeous face and tiny little fingers.

Donatellalymanmoss · 17/08/2016 18:47

Their so snugly and you can literally cuddle them all day long.

paddypants13 · 17/08/2016 18:44

The way they are so utterly helpless, the way the snuggle into you to sleep, the way they "fit" into you (not sure how to describe it), the way they're all curled and they're so new.

Good grief, I want another baby so badly.

allthecarbs · 17/08/2016 18:18

How much you get to cuddle them without them telling you to stop. Ds2 was barely out of my arms.

ShelaghTurner · 17/08/2016 18:12

The way they're all folded up like a kidney bean. Their dark peepy eyes. Little tiny everything. Soft heads and perfect skin. Brand new unused feet. Sigh.

Spudlet · 17/08/2016 18:09

Best of all though is that you are no longer pregnant! Yay! Grin

Spudlet · 17/08/2016 18:08

People are nice to you. And they change all the time, hence never get boring.

Yy to the staying put thing. DS is only rolling but I still keep losing him. He gets wedged half under the sofa. Then he gets angry with the sofa and shouts at it for being in the way. Hmm
