I have three - one doing a levels in the next couple of weeks, all huge sporty and growing,
i did bacon rolls today as pre exam thing and they all said they would happily eat a proper breakfast every day
I get up early - its no skin off my nose, maybe a bit more prep etc
Do any of you do cooked breakfasts every day? I think I should put more effort in

nancy - i whip up the egg - fry in a pan then shove it under the grill (to cook the top) it WHOOFS up like a souffle, cut into chunks in a bagel,

Like Macdonalds

Having a 400kcal bacon or egg sarnie for breakfast isn't going to be the thing that makes any teen fat.

NancyJoan · 06/06/2016 12:47

God, I wish my lot would eat eggs. I love poached on toast, but both are complete egg refusers.

I tried bacon/eggs/other protein foods such as smoked fish and cheese every day for a while instead of carbs because of this whole "protein fills you up more than carbs" idea that I keep reading. Did it heck!

Not only did it leave me feeling greased out and unsatisfied it cost a fortune and I was always starving again by mid morning. Chuck some carbs in and I will easily be full till 1pm though. No one else in our house has the slightest inclination towards cooked breakfasts either. But if it works for you then go for it.

NewLife4Me · 06/06/2016 12:10

My family love cooked breakfasts, we don't fry anything though.
If you buy from the butchers and ask for unsalted, not smoked, no additives etc you should be fine. it can be a healthy meal if you follow the guidelines.

I still do breakfast most weekday mornings for ds 15 and 16- left to themselves they would choose chocolate mini weetabix every day- half a packet at a time! When they were about 3 I figured weetabix every day (the plain kind!) was too wheat heavy, neither like porridge and so I started doing eggs Tuesday and Thursday! Now I mix it up- fruit and yoghurt, egg and beans, bacon, cereal- and while I do it they take out the bins and the recycling!

I expect it will be chocolate cereal every day when they leave home though- until they realise the cost!

I wish I had a table in my house reading all these replies. We had to turn our dining room into a bedroom and now we have no space at all anywhere for a table not even a fold away one

"I think breakfast in a busy household is easier to manage if people prepare their own. It's not difficult"

Having 6 people in my teensy kitchen all at once, trying to prepare breakfast would be hellish, I'd be committing murder before 8 am Shock

LiveLifeWithPassion · 06/06/2016 11:56

We love relaxed breakfasts in our house.
Dh works long hours so a cooked breakfast (cooked by dh) together every weekend morning is really nice and gives us all a chance to sit together and chat.
We do special breakfasts for occasions and I'll definitely be doing it for exam mornings.
My eldest is starting secondary school this September and I think a cooked breakfast will be a nice start to the day.
I can't do it every day but a couple of times a week will be good.

NickiFury · 06/06/2016 11:56

I make my son breakfast in bed most mornings and it is either boiled or poached eggs on toast or a ham and cheese toastie. Dd does not like breakfast in bed or she would have it too. Last night they both fancied hot dogs at 9 pm instead of their usual supper so I made them one each and was happy to do it Smile

I also cook separate meals depending on what they fancy most nights

StickTheDMWhereTheSunDontShine · 06/06/2016 11:51

Mine have bacon, sausage or egg sarnies most mornings. Doesn't take much preparation and even dh can manage ito prepare it!

WorraLiberty · 06/06/2016 11:49

I think breakfast in a busy household is easier to manage if people prepare their own. It's not difficult.

Some people have walk-in wardrobes that are bigger than my kitchen.

Plus we only have one cooker. I'm not sure everyone crowding around it, waiting for space in the pan to chuck their bacon in, is going to work somehow.

notagiraffe · 06/06/2016 11:44

I'm with Boisbois I lay the table and get breakfast out like a good little 50s housewife before calling DC down to eat on school days. but only because it's far less faff than them pulling everything out of the cupboards and leaving a bombsight behind.

boisbois · 06/06/2016 11:42

I think breakfast in a busy household is easier to manage if people prepare their own. It's not difficult.

I think the complete opposite, having five people trying to make their own breakfast is a nightmare.

Pinkheart5915 · 06/06/2016 11:40

I wouldn't want or want to feed my DC processed meat every breakfast.

Something like poached egg, omelette & toast or pancakes I could get use to everyday.

On days when they have exams filling them up at breakfast is a good idea they need that before an exam, my Parents use to do it to us when taking a levels. Dads pancake were my favourite.
My older brother was very in to sport and he eggs nearly every day when we were at school, he still does at 35.

mamacien · 06/06/2016 11:39

You sound like a lovely thoughtful mother Grin
As long as they don't think it's a "woman's work" to cook for them and you are happy to do it (which you clearly are) I think it sounds like a great idea!
Exam period is such a stressful time and finding time for a good meal is hard. Can I come to your house for breakfast too please? Halo

notagiraffe · 06/06/2016 11:35

I do one most days. My DC just love bacon bagels or egg and soldiers. Never occurred to me that bacon each day is too much. Blush
It's no faff. really. A full english would be, but cooking a single thing is hardly more effort than buttering toast.

AnnPerkins · 06/06/2016 11:32

Not the same as hungry, strapping teenagers, but DS is in Y2 and just before and during SATs I made him french toast for breakfast every day. I don't know if I was doing the right thing but I felt happier sending him off with a full stomach. Particularly as I don't think he eats much on school dinner days.

I would do it if I were you. But I'd get them to do the washing up (no dishwasher here).

DonkeyOaty · 06/06/2016 11:30

It's great when they can reach high stuff. And pat Mama's head on the way.

This thread is making me want to make a cooked breakfast each day. I probably wouldn't eat 6 biscuits with my coffee if I had a proper breakfast!
