With a human skull in the garden?

Slippersandacuppa · 07/05/2016 20:45

Because I've never been in this situation before.

We've been tidying up the garden and have piles of rubble all over the place. One of our rickety old fences borders a graveyard (very old belonging to ancient church) and I'm assuming the skull sort of drifted under our fence and has been near the top of the soil for a while. I hope.

I've googled but can't seem to find much info. I'll be contacting the parish council on Monday but wondered if it warrants a call to 101 (or whatever it is) to register it just in case it's not a graveyard wanderer Confused

Anyone had a similar experience?!

Could you do that for the whole body Ouriana?!

I've just realised that we've come this far without me telling you that I have a cellar that appears to have a boarded-up area in it.

The discovery of YS has further strengthened my resolve to never set foot in the cellar again. Apparently, there used to be a tunnel between our house and the church. 😳

La la la happy place

OooLookShoes · 10/05/2016 22:50

I'd be impressed by your party trick ouriana

You could re enact this scene beautifully

My DDs think I am an embarrassment too. But for my extensive knowledge of body fluids. Bones are much much cooler. And cleaner.

Placemarking 💀
Need to know how's this ends 😄 Brilliant thread

aSkullByAnyOtherName · 10/05/2016 22:08

It's just occurred to me Ouriana that you can't have had many opportunities to display your knowledge here in the past?

I can confirm that the top and hole appear very smooth. It was jagged all the way around - not a smooth oval shape at all.

You'd have to dedicate a week to it. You can't learn to dig up bones properly in just a day!!

aSkullByAnyOtherName · 10/05/2016 21:56

Count me and DS1 and potentially 2 in x

HookedOnHooking · 10/05/2016 21:54

Ooh yes. We could have a day out. Team Yorik.

educatingarti · 10/05/2016 21:41

So if anyone is interested in genuinely excavating mediaeval skeletons, I know an archaeology site that runs training on this. No previous experience required. Older children can participate too as long as they are accompanied by an adult also doing the training!

aSkullByAnyOtherName · 10/05/2016 21:14

Why thank you Bertie

Hippo We could call the position 'Lieutenant Ligament' for short? They hold bones together too so not a million miles away from what you'll be doing (in the corner under the silver birch)

WakeUpFast · 10/05/2016 21:09

Bone putterer togetherer 😂

BertieBotts · 10/05/2016 21:06

Love the new name Grin

RedOnHerHedd · 10/05/2016 20:41

Yawninghippo if you get stuck with the bone puttering together bit, just sing this song:

aSkullByAnyOtherName · 10/05/2016 20:19

Well spotted Queen

I shall pretend I meant YS's shabby chin. N isn't even anywhere near C?

aSkullByAnyOtherName · 10/05/2016 20:17

What do you think it's me

I remembered that I don't even really like tea. I considered SpikyWineGlass too.

Thanks for that Sharon 😳 DH isn't here.

Lweji I used to love CSI. Somehow CSI Warwickshire doesn't have the same ring to it as CSI Miami or New York though. It could be like a cross between CSI, Escape to the Country and Miss Marple.

QueenOfThorns · 10/05/2016 20:16

I remember that one, Sharon. Wasn't he a nasty piece of work, which is why they put him in the bottle in the first place?

It reminds me of a book by J Sheridan Le Fanu called (funnily enough) The House by the Churchyard. They dig up an old skull with a hole in it at the beginning, but it's in the graveyard, not the garden!

Sorry to hear about your shabby chin, slippers - maybe tidy that up before your nice policemen come back? Wink

littlemissfuckingsunshine · 10/05/2016 20:10

Loving this. Doing the garden when I first moved into my place, we found a full dog and cat skeleton. Also 3 little Skelton's which were either hamsters, gerbils or something similar.
Nothing as exciting as you OP.

SharonSignsToCherryRed · 10/05/2016 20:00

Slightly off topic but this reminds me a little of a wonderful children's book called The Ghost Of Thomas Kempe. Some builders doing up a house accidentally release a spirit that's been trapped in a wall for hundreds of years. If you start to find notes in spidery old mans handwriting around the house do let us know.

Yawninghippo · 10/05/2016 19:46

Can I apply for the position of 'bone putter togetherer?' I have been building the parts of the National Geographic body magazine and feel that I'm ready to move on from plastic to the real thing. The fact that it took me an hour to figure out how the jaw clipped on to the skull should not hold me back!

Lweji · 10/05/2016 18:08

I've meant to post on this at least 3 times already, so to place mark, I'll just say that I don't know if I'd be more excited by a visit by CSI or an archaeologist dig.

Slippersandacuppa · 10/05/2016 18:00

*I've

See, fingers so happy they can't type.

I really am irrationally happy that I'm been directly involved in a classic. If you see someone walking around the Shire grinning like a chimp, that's me Grin

I also keep forgetting that our meet up isn't real (I've been picturing where to set up the tee pee and shabby chin wooden trestle table with jar full of homegrown flowers) and getting sad Sad

Slippersandacuppa · 10/05/2016 17:55

Oh my goodness Beccamumsnet Thank you, thank you!!! Flowers

Go Team YS, we did it! I have such a feeling of validation now

Sorry, nothing from the coppers yet. The county archaeologist was supposed to be looking at him on Monday. What is a reasonable amount of time to wait to avoid coming across as one of Sharon's weirdos?

Visions What are you saying about psychology degrees? Hmm? Actually, I couldn't agree with you more. I haven't used mine in any of my jobs. I had visions of going into forensics. I think it's a good job I emigrated before I got that far - I'd just get far too attached to the evidence. I'm missing the little fella.

Matey Yep. It was top of our list of considerations when choosing an area. Good primary school came a close second.

Keith I'm pretty sure there is a body nearby. I had some very important weeding to do in the vicinity yesterday evening no teeth or ribs visible yet
