With a human skull in the garden?

Because I've never been in this situation before.

We've been tidying up the garden and have piles of rubble all over the place. One of our rickety old fences borders a graveyard (very old belonging to ancient church) and I'm assuming the skull sort of drifted under our fence and has been near the top of the soil for a while. I hope.

I've googled but can't seem to find much info. I'll be contacting the parish council on Monday but wondered if it warrants a call to 101 (or whatever it is) to register it just in case it's not a graveyard wanderer Confused

Anyone had a similar experience?!

Natsku you'd have to go down there to rescue the tiny kitten you just saw run in there though, wouldn't you?

Noooo! A chain attached to a spit in the cellar????

aSkullByAnyOtherName · 13/05/2016 22:33

Right you are, zzzzz

The hooks are in the hallway into the kitchen but as far as I know, it's always been a hallway. They are hanging directly in front of the cellar door. I know it seems like drip feeding - I'm sorry! I just never go down there (have irrational fear of being stuck down there and kids having to fend for themselves, which they'd love).

The old owners, who had been here for decades, told us we have a septic tank and that we'd need to empty it every two years. We arranged for it to be done, nice man came out, emptied 1000 gallons (I think?) and charged us £175.

Two years later we called up after receiving a reminder, nice man came out, said he couldn't reach the tank. Came back (after charging us call out fee) with longer hose but said he couldn't do it by himself. Charged us again and came back with longer hose and 2nd nice man. They couldn't find the tank. And charges us again.

Because of the extension that may happen (depending on how many medieval helmets we find), we have had to have a proper drain survey done, complete with mini endoscopes. It clearly states in the report that we have no septic tank.

So where did it go? And if we never had one, what did Nice Man number one empty for £175??

Weird things have happened here this week. Fox got all of my hens Sad, first case of nits we've had in 9 years of parenting and the kids have mostly been really lovely to each other 😳

Something's afoot.

Are the hooks in the kitchen skull , near a fireplace? If so I suspect used as part of a chain attached to a spit.

HelenaJustina · 13/05/2016 22:17

Your house just keeps on giving.

Soup I snorted out loud at utilising an already diseased child and duct tape to explore zzzz's cellar!

One of my DC is fairly fearless and bribeable I should start hiring her out to be pushed into small dark spaces with a head torch on and recording equipment!

I realised today that I pass by a grassy mound with a door in it on my way to work and the door is open - its never been open before! But its not in my garden so I'm too worried I'll get in trouble if I go exploring in it :( Though it looks like its just an old root cellar or above ground bomb shelter.

aSkullByAnyOtherName · 13/05/2016 17:29

Am just feeding a few million children. I'll be back later to tell you our septic tank saga. But to keep you all going, look at the hooks inside our house.

What the jeff are they for??

I can't believe that you had never explored your cellar and seen that door and the hooks! 😮😮

Aprille · 13/05/2016 14:51

Our house as children was a modern bungalow, but we did have a wall along the nearby sea shore that had a square hole in it and we speculated that it was a tunnel to an abbey that is now a ruin for the monks to bolt to a boat and escape. None of the village children had the courage to investigate and none of the adults could be bothered.

Jenijena · 13/05/2016 14:33

How close are you to the church? How old is your house? Could be a passage through to the church, if is the right side.

You might not want to read up too much on the subject of vaults...

Well, that's an unfortunate, but apt, truncation of your post, zzzzz... :o

This is the thread that just keeps giving Grin

at the big hooks in the cellar though

ScrambledSmegs · 13/05/2016 11:01

We're on mains sewage, I think the tank was decommissioned at least a decade ago.

Still not going down there!

I have a selfie-stick too, but no cellar. I do have a disused septic tank somewhere in the garden, but no way am I potentially dropping my phone down there for you lot Grin

i have a selfie stick...never mind that forget to take it anywhere and have only used it on christmas day! ..it was a joke present from dh!

and i see the shadowy figure of the soul of poor headless Yorick on the bricked up door!

SoupDragon · 13/05/2016 09:49

I have a selfie stick in the house because I also have a 10 year old DD :) who proudly informed me that she had been right down into the underworld bunker so she may well find herself back down there later on today!

PortBlacksand2016Resident · 13/05/2016 09:47

I've only ever seen it in print once - probably for that very reason. But the pictures of the hooks made me think of it.... .
