Post - wedding message ... please help me, what the hell do I say??

I recently attended an ex-colleague's wedding where, in response to a request for cash gifts, I sent what I thought was a pretty decent cheque (£100 if it matters, though I can't help feeling it shouldn't)

Last night I received an email which opened with a few comments about how glad they were to see everybody and how generous they'd all been, then said "we were surprised that your contribution didn't seem to match the warmth of your good wishes on our big day. In view of your own position, if you wanted to send any adjustment it would be thankfully received"

For someone who's not easily shocked I confess I'm utterly gobsmacked by this. So as not to drip feed I'll mention that "your own position" probably refers to a recent inheritance I've had, which maybe they expected something from (and this is an ex-colleague, remember, not a close friend or relative)

Please, anyone, what do I do now? I've never come across anything like this before and still can't quite believe they've done it - but since they have, should I reply, ring them, ignore it or what??

Whilst I think that the greedy bride and groom deserved to be shamed, isn't this publicity going to put OP in a very difficult situation? Assuming that they know who they and OP are!

I note the OP has not returned, or has a new thread been started?

LeafTreeRaker · 11/05/2016 20:52

At 6pm on Magic fm it was the topic for the Six O'Clock Selector. First song was Man in the Mirror Hmm

Jamjar12 · 11/05/2016 20:15

Mumrose · 11/05/2016 17:38

HolyShitballsBatman · 11/05/2016 02:48

Oh, I think it converted the link automatically...

HolyShitballsBatman · 11/05/2016 02:47

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-3582662/Bride-groom-email-guest-say-wedding-gift-wasn-t-generous-enough.html

I'm on the app and can't remember how to do a proper fucking link so you'll have to copy and paste.

OVienna · 10/05/2016 22:38

Fail link?

LeafTreeRaker · 10/05/2016 21:15

The cancelling of the cheque has made it to the courgette thread too Grin

HolyShitballsBatman · 10/05/2016 19:47

This made the Daily Fail.

Great thread.

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 09/05/2016 00:25

Everyone is slagging off the bride but the email came from both of them

Babettescat · 08/05/2016 21:55

But why the fuck has she not cancelled the cheque?

storminabuttercup · 08/05/2016 18:35

Cancel the cheque is going to be one of the proofs you've been here a while.

Trust me I'm not a troll, cutted up pear, penis beaker, poo pouffe and cancel the fucking cheque.

I wonder if the Bride is reading this yet?

age81 · 08/05/2016 16:19

How old are the b&g?

I know the age is irrelevant for being cheeky fuckers, but are they young and think the 'world & his dog owes them?'

MatthewWrightIsThick · 08/05/2016 15:26

I hope it's on Matthew Wright even if he is thick.

TTwidow · 08/05/2016 14:47

I think this will be a topic on The Wright Stuff tomorrow. Maybe bride watches that Grin

ilyacailly · 08/05/2016 14:27

I really hope the bride gets to see this. Ungrateful witch!

olafforthewin · 08/05/2016 13:46

I know this is going along the same lines of the last 900 posts but I think you should cancel the cheque.

Woah woah hear me out!!!

I used to work in a high street bank and if my memory serves me correctly you used to have up to 3 weeks to cancel a cheque. I may be wrong and things may have changed but could you ask your local friendly banker if it would be possible in any way at all to maybe 'stop' the cheque??

CashedTheChequeHasBeen · 08/05/2016 12:00

Just Cheque'ing in Grin

DailyMailAreArses · 08/05/2016 11:39

Actually Bibbity I take that back - I'm getting grumpy with it now too!

awfullyproper · 08/05/2016 11:38

Irony

lifesalongsong · 08/05/2016 11:36

Why oh why do people not have the OP's posts highlighted in a different colour and read at least those before posting.

This thread would be about 300 posts and those who seriously think that in nearly 1000 posts no one has suggested cancelling the cheque could save their fingers the effort of posting (and yes I know most of them are sarcastic but many aren't).

Rant over

Greengagesummer · 08/05/2016 11:34

CTC

Yup, think that'll work

Bloom12 · 08/05/2016 11:34

They have crossed the line. You tell them if you think I paid that money as a ticket to your wedding, then after attending I realised it wasn't worth it, you should return me my fifty pounds. Actually, I gave you this money as a gift and last time I checked our society's norm, "you accept gift whether it's small or big". I'm sorry I follow my cultural norms/values.
