Sing the end bit of International Playboys. Can't help myself, it just comes out.

Go on then people. Out irrational odd habit that one....

Passing, looking at, or eating eclairs always gets
Is that an eclair or a meringue?

No you're right it's an eclair.

From me. Cue eye roll from the children. They've had years of that.
Also Mummeeee, I'm thirsty. Oh right, I'm Friday.

OMGSame · 27/04/2016 12:53

I bought an aloe vera plant for my downstairs bog. I tried to insist that everyone had to give it a cheery wave and say "'Allo Vera" every time they went in there - dh and I have northern English accents so therefore in a Peter Kay stylee. Dh did it once to humour me and then threatened to avail himself of one of Vera's leaves every time he had a post curry moment ShockAngry. The dc's decided I was mad and just refused point blank to do it.. I'd like to say that Vera and I moved out and left them to their sad, humourless existence but unfortunately it was too cold in there for poor Vera who is now no longer with us Sad

When a travelling fair comes to town I have to sing Rusholme Ruffians to myself everytime I walk past. When I spot my cats eating grass in the back garden I sing "I see you [cats name] eating that grass, eating that grass, eating that grass..." And later when inevitably the grass comes back up. It works equally well as "puking that grass..." All to the tune of the groove armada track. Its called poppropriation as named by Adam & Joe.

BrianCoxReborn · 27/04/2016 12:38

Aaaaand another....when driving in Wales, every time I see the word ARAF I have to shout/growl "ARAF!!"

I think I'm actually a bit mad.

BrianCoxReborn · 27/04/2016 12:35

Ffs fat fingers - a la Victoria Wood

And Jr = it

BrianCoxReborn · 27/04/2016 12:34

Oh and if I ever meet someone called Kimberley, I have to make a concerted effort to not say "my friend Kimberley" a last Victoria Wood.

If someone says "...he's in denial" I always say (and laugh because Jr genuinely makes me giggle" "no he's not, he's in de Mersey"

BrianCoxReborn · 27/04/2016 12:29

We have so many of these, as a family, and I've never questioned that it's anything other than completely normal.....up til this thread and now I think we may be a bit batshit.

Driving along the motorway/any road and seeing a boat on a trailer, we have to declare "oh, that was a high tide"

Seeing a lorry or tractor full of hay, you have to shout as loudly as possible "HAY!"

When the driver of the car says to the passenger "am I clear left?" (If the junction is difficult to see) the passenger must (after giving the all clear) say "call me a liar, except for that bus"

I don't even know what that last one means. But I say it.

Heavens2Betsy · 27/04/2016 12:24

This will sound weird but when there is an instrumental theme tune on TV (eg Coronation Street) I sing the title along to the tune (Co-o-ro nation street). Drives my kids mad Grin

eitak22 · 27/04/2016 12:20

I do the big bang thing with 'Bang'
Have to clap with friends theme tune
Thanks to the chicken Madras advert i sing that to my DH when we have curry.
Also my DH and i have a noise our nose makes which we do frequently.

jessplussomeonenew · 27/04/2016 12:18

STDG, heavy plant crossings are always "look out for the ents" for us but liking your variation!

blackteaplease · 27/04/2016 12:17

These are all brilliant. We do a lot of these.
At night if I ask DH to turn off the light he will sing 'follow me, follow me, follow me down down down' a la nelly furtado.

NapQueen · 27/04/2016 12:07

If someone rattles off a list of stuff, or if I am, I always end it with "and a partridge in a pear treeeeeee"

NapQueen · 27/04/2016 12:05

Whenever we play Settlers of Catan I always sing "hold back the river". It was playing when I first learnt so now its associated itself with the game.

Whenever anyone says at work or at home "question", I always since "tell me what you think about me" a la Beyonce

MargotLovedTom · 27/04/2016 12:02

There's a car near us with KLF as part of the registration number, and whenever I see it I'm compelled to sing "Kaaay Ellll Effffffffff! UH HUH, UH HUH, UH HUH, UH HUH!" (young 'uns won't have a clue what I'm on about).

Fiderer · 27/04/2016 12:01

Whenever one of my children says "I can't ..." they get "Course you can Malcolm"

And when one of them does well in an exam "You got an Ology!"

Also "Put the kettle on Baldrick"

kelper · 27/04/2016 11:59

God I do loads of these too!
When DS and I go into he multi-storey carpark we always have to shout "Weeeeeeeeeeee" as we go down the slope.
If we go over a bump in the road or a humpback bridge i say "hold on to your hollyhocks" thanks mum
Or is we have to stop the car slightly quicker than usual i say "all hands on deck, stand by to ram" thanks dad
Definitely "stop, hammer time"
There's loads more but i can't remember them until i do them iyswim?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/04/2016 11:52

Whenever I see the 'Heavy Plant Crossing' road sign, I say that the triffids are coming - I blame my dad for that one.

I am sure I have lots of others - but I can't think of them right now - but I have found My People on this thread!

DaisyAdair · 27/04/2016 11:46

I can't say McDonald's without singing 'McDonald's, McDonald's, Kentucky fried chicken and a pizza hut'

I have to be Lady Bracknell when I say handbaaag 'handbag.'

If anyone says 'it's cold outside' I have to sing 'there's no kind of atmosphere'

Glad I'm not alone!

puzzledbyadream · 27/04/2016 11:42

I'm another for Jammin' when fixing the printer. In fact any time a student reports a printer jam I alert them to the fact we call the printer Bob Marley. Cos it's always Jammin'.

I have this weird habit of if I have to do a presentation of some description I offer to do it in interpretative dance. Luckily nobody has taken me up on...

LordoftheTits · 27/04/2016 11:38

When I say 'flash' I always, always have Freddie Mercury on my shoulder singing 'Ah-ah! He saved every one of us!'

DH and I sing 'ah-ah!' after pretty much any one syllable reply Blush

'Do you want anything from the shop?'
'Crisps!'
'Ah-ahh!'

I don't even know how it started ConfusedGrin

HoneyDragon · 27/04/2016 11:37

I can't believe how many of these I do to.

It's occurred to me that I've never got the cream out the fridge without going "the Creme de la Creme de la Creme" in my finest Jean Brodie accent.

Also if anyone ever points at something and says 'there' they will be subjected to 'There wolf, There Castle"

OP posts:
BowChickaBowWow · 27/04/2016 11:31

I do too many of these. Blush

I work with a bloke called Amadou and every time I say/read/hear his name my brains wanders off and sings his name in the style of Xanadu! I once confessed this to a colleague who said that she does the same thing but sings Agadoo! Poor guy.

Jod1985 · 27/04/2016 11:31

I knew a guy who had a girlfriend called Jolene. I really found it hard to control the urge to sing the song in her company or when her name was mentioned! I always sang it in to myself.

Wooterus · 27/04/2016 11:28

Hello fellow twats by a PP has set me off 😂

Whenever anyone starts a sentence with "do you know..." within earshot of me or my sister, one or both of us will fill in "...where...the toilets are?" in the manner of Bridget Jones. I actually bumped into Mr Titspervert in the supermarket the other week and was dying to ask him.

Also do "Flash, ah-ah!", assumed everyone did Grin

There are lots of other songs that get thrown about regularly in our house, but they're eluding me at present.

PipnPosy · 27/04/2016 11:28

YY to so many of these; hammer time, handbag, flash...

Plus, if anyone says 'I'm cold', I say 'I'm old' (a la Joey from friends).
