things I didn't know I found annoying until I had children.

repetition
loud noises
things being spilled on the floor
being touched

To be fair all the above happened far less frequently before I had children. Repetition is a particular annoyance - not just me saying the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, but chanting, singing the same line of a song repeatedly, taunting etc.

Love them, but dear God for just 24hrs of peace....

I'm okay with the touching except for my face. DO NOT touch my face! And I do not care to have soft toys shoved in my face, or anything else for that matter. Even my older dc aged 8 still doesn't understand that I cannot physically see something she holds an inch in front of my face.

I also have two girls doing squeaky voices on behalf of their soft toys. I am pleased they are having to much fun and are playing nicely, but by the end of the day I can't cope with screeching toys, it's like sensory overload.

GreenPotato · 09/11/2015 10:20

For me it's the "Mum..." Then silence. I have to say "Yes...?" before child will spit out what they have to say. If I don't say it, it just carries on.

"Mum..."
"Muuuuuum..."
"Muuuuuuuuum..."
"MUM!"

Then I end up going "WHAAAAAT!?" Blush

Just say what you want to say! What's with the getting me to say Yes first!? Often this happens when there's no one else around. Just you know... start talking!

The bickering and competing between my 2 DC also drives me out of my tree. I swear they would compete over who gets to poke themselves in the eye with a sharp stick. It doesn't matter what it is, if one of them gets to do it it has to be fair! Gah.

And as PPs have said the having your legs grabbed by a toddler when you are trying to move around the kitchen at high speed (because you have so much to get done!). Mine have grown out of that now but it used to stress me out so much.

GoboTheGoat · 09/11/2015 10:18

I agree with all of these, but especially the blocking. DD2 (3) seems to be especially talented at being in the exact location I want to be. In doorways, on the stairs, under my feet in the kitchen. And she dawdles too. She also chooses the exact moment I am putting dinner out to turn into a stealth blocker, so I don't even hear or see her until I turn around with a hot pan and trip over her. And of course I am then horrible mummy for hurting her while I try not to scald us both. Hmm

The repetition and the constant demands and the physical contact. DD2's favourite spot is practically on my shoulder when I am half sitting half lying on the sofa. She perches there. DD1 wants to be beside me always, but she is a major fidgeter and ends up elbowing me and kneeing me all over. In my boobs, belly, legs. And it bloody hurts.

Or when I say get your shoes on and then get myself ready and we go to leave and they still don't have their bloody shoes on.

Or when they say they can't find something and it is right in front of them, but I have to traipse all the way up the stairs to point at the thing that is sitting right there. Gaaaaah.

Rubygillis · 09/11/2015 10:14

Yes to being a referee - I say to mine "do you LIKE it when you each hit each other? No? Then why do it?"

And "use your normal voice, I don't do anything when it is screamed at me". I mean, why not just ask me, in a normal voice to do things?

That thing that 2 yo do when they automatically say no when they mean yes and then get pissed off with you when you assume they mean no when they say no.

whatstheplanphil · 09/11/2015 10:14

Yes to turn taking
Constantly having to clean urine off the toilet seat, I don't mean a little drop I mean a full on wer tsunami every single bleeding day, worse than that of course is not seeing it until you've sat down Confused

ihatevirginmobile · 09/11/2015 10:13

yy to cheerios too DD2 (8) just got shown how to make a bird feeder out of cheerios threaded onto pipe cleaners (which apparently aren't actually fit for purpose as as soon as it rains they fall to pieces...)
But she now has a cheerio threading obsession - she has a piece of string and a small bowl that she keeps leaving everywhere to get kicked over etc - and she picked the string up by the wrong end and loads of them fell off...disappearing to the four corners of the house...I am sure I will still be finding them when she is 40.....

Quietlifenotonyournelly · 09/11/2015 10:12

I used to get inwardly annoyed at the noise, mess and repetition.
I have 4 DCs and 3 of them are adults now but with dc4 9 months, I am finding this time around that I enjoy the noise actively encouraging it the constant singing of nursery rhymes and everything that I used to find annoying before.
Children grow up so quick and this time round I appreciate the little things rather than be annoyed by them.

milkingmachine1 · 09/11/2015 10:10

luckystar
I am annoyed by traffic, I can't stand the sound of a running car, and I don't like walking on pavements near busy roads. I also find other people's dogs really, really, really annoying and I don't want any them anywhere near me or DS. I think they are forth and disgusting and dangerous (I have always previously loved dogs).

This^ all of this!

This venting feels great Grin

Gladysandtheflathamsandwich · 09/11/2015 10:10

I carpeted our wooden floors because the sound of things being constantly dropped was like water torture, it drove me barmy. Things still get dropped but they dont hit the floor with a clatter and my sanity has been saved.

zoobaby · 09/11/2015 10:07

Me: "no"
Me" "nooo"
Me: "Nooooo"
Me: "NO!"
DS: "what are you saying no for?"

milkingmachine1 · 09/11/2015 10:05

These are making me feel much better. I thought I was just being an unreasonable moody wench but I'm glad to see the blocking and 'standing really close just behind me' thing happens to other people and drives them mad too!
I also get unreasonably annoyed at spilt drinks (from silliness at the table) and the constant questions, mainly 'mummy, what are you doing?' A million times a day.

ihatevirginmobile · 09/11/2015 10:03

I relate to a lot of these (DD2 toddler used to stand right behind me when I was washing up - holding onto both my legs (so pulling down my trousers)
...or worse not holding onto me - so a perfect trip hazard -and when you do knock them flying you find yourself feeling guilty and apologising and comforting them...

Now they are older (the cat is a trip hazard instead Hmm) I have other irritations -
The overuse of the word 'mum' - I get 'Muuuuuuuum' but also 'mum mum mum mum mum' if I haven't answered fast enough - because maybe I have a mouth full of food or am on the phone to someone like the bank... I have asked them to call me something else sometimes - don't care what - just as long as it isn't the M word...

But then they have selective hearing ...so I can call their name hundreds of times (ok but 6 or 7 sometimes) - no acknowledgement, no response - then I say if you don't answer me now you are going to lose xyz - and they go 'oh what, were you talking to me? - I didn't hear you...Angry

And the blocking ....had this yesterday ...washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher and microwave were all beeping at me - and I was trying to get dinner on...DP and DD2 were both standing in the kitchen...talking to each other and trying to talk to me ... they did keep moving out of my way ...but ahhhhhhhhh
and they were surprised when I asked them (slightly abruptly) to get from under my feet and I'd talk to them later...

(And breathe.....)

Luckystar1 · 09/11/2015 10:01

I've found different things annoying (although I do lose it with the incessant leg clinging).

My tolerance for other people is minimal.

LifeIsChaos · 09/11/2015 09:57

The tag teaming. I swear if my arse touches a chair someone wants something.

Playing referee, why can't they just play nice? If I tell one off the other sticks up for them even if they are in tears because the other walloped them Hmm

The noise!! Drives me insane. I'm guilty at yelling shut up at them and walking away Blush

The mess. I mean is there any need to pull the whole house apart?

Silliness, why do they have to show me up by turning into wild animals the moment someone else requires my attention?

I'm going to stop there Grin

Wristy · 09/11/2015 09:57

YYYY to all of these posts. I feel like a broken record every day. 'Don't jump on the furniture', 'don't wander out of the toilet with you trousers round your ankles' it's never ending. Nothing seems to go in either I'll be saying these things for the next 15-20 years I reckon.
YY to the Cheerios, worse than dried on weetabix!

BusyCee · 09/11/2015 09:54

Oh the blocking. It's INFURIATING. As is the whining when you tread on/knock over/swear at whichever one is standing to heel

OP posts:
OhHolyFuck · 09/11/2015 09:54

Agree with the touching - for Christ sake, you know I love you but can I not love you from the other side of the room rather than trying to sit on my head

The endless mindless chatter - skylanders do not interest me even half as much as you, please do not try and talk to me about them for 3 hours solidly, I lost the will to care 10 minutes in

The school run - again the utter tedium of doing the same walk 10 times a week especially in a morning trying not to be late whilst you dawdle along in the rain

Every1KnowsJeffTheJerkOlantern · 09/11/2015 09:51

The whining.
The volume.
"Why?"
The screaming

Angry
TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 09/11/2015 09:50

Raisins

HawkeyeInConfusion · 09/11/2015 09:50

With all the pp who have said the touching.

Also having a person blocking my way as I'm trying to move around the house. Blocking the hall, blocking the doorway, blocking access to the cupboard. Every way I turn, one of them is standing exactly in the way.

Qwerty I hear you with the cheerios. Oh good grief..... I once found them on the floor in my church where ds2 was playing. I'm not sure he'd even eaten any that morning, the annoying sticky little things!
We have now moved on to Kellogs Multi Grain Shapes that have all the taste and texture of packing foam, but they're less sticky.

"But I caaaaaaan't" out of the mouth of my four year old every morning. Oh yes you can! You HAVE to get dressed and you HAVE to wear school uniform. Because you JUST DO!

I used to think a friends little one was adorable for crying whenever she left the room. Now I have a 19 month old who screams like a banshee for the same reason and it is not cute. It is annoying. And now I am apparently sat in the wrong chair and am being screamed at.

StephenKatz · 09/11/2015 09:40

Turn taking. It's MY TURN to have my hair done first! It's MY TURN to open the front door! It's MY TURN to press the lift button! I CAN'T FUCKING REMEMBER WHOS TURN IT IS!

Putting on three pairs of tights on a morning (although to be fair, one of them is mine!)

And my all time favourite - Mummyyyyyyyy... (long pause) Mummyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

BusyCee · 09/11/2015 09:12

Another one - borne from the school run; having to maintain reason and rationale (and your sanity) when the other participant is being completely ABSURD. This also applies to being asked to play cars or board games and then the other person not adhering the rules but complaining bitterly when the game doesn't work. Also them asking ABSURD questions but wanting to have a reasonable answer.

I didn't realize this was annoying before I had children because it NEVER FUCKING HAPPENED even in a job where I worked with highly strung creative types

Oh the hopping all over you,do they not know about personal space. The end lless chatter about shite.
