the worst thing I have ever done due to child induced fatigue

I feel awful about this. DS had me up a lot last night as a result I got a maximum of 4 hour sleep, as a result I am bordering on exhausted, particularly with the other one just back at school.

Anyway we went out for a walk this morning to a park which is a good 15 minutes by car. I got home, went to get him out and realised I hadn't strapped him - I had been driving down an A road at 50 and he wasn't strapped him. I still feel awful about it. I think it is probably the worst thing I have ever done. We are snuggling up on the sofa now and resting. Has anyone else ever done similar? Also, how is it people manage to not be dopy when they are so tired?

I completed DS2's passport application incorrectly. The lovely lady rang me up to ask if we really had decided to change DS2's name to the same as DS1's!!

He was about 2 weeks old, I'd had a hellish labour, he'd been in NICU but was BF so I'd been up and down for hours and then he developed reflux so would feed for hours, vomit copiously and start again.

It was 4 years before he slept through!

When he was three I took them DS1 - 5 and DS2 - 3 to the park after school. Warm sunny day. Park started to empty a little (was right next to the school) and I laid down on the warm black squidgy matting and fell asleep. A kind lady woke me up to check I wasn't in a diabetic coma!

I once wore three bras, one on top of the other. Didn't realise til I went to bed that evening.

I remember arriving home with a crying baby, at my wits end, standing at the front door feeling like the whole world was against me because the door just wouldn't open, then realising I hadn't yet tried to open it.

shutupandshop · 19/11/2015 23:47

I have forgotten my pin number more than once due to tiredness. usually at supermarket

CoffeeChocolateWine · 19/11/2015 23:47

I'm another one who has not strapped baby in car seat or not strapped car seat in car.

I flooded the kitchen several times after leaving the tap running.

I've also left the front door wide open. Just the other night I left the front door keys in the lock overnight can't even blame sleep deprivation. I've left the sliding side door of the van wide open and another time left the keys in the ignition. It's amazing we've never been burgled!

I poured wine into my toddler's beaker and only realised when I went to pour milk into my wine glass!

OnTheEdgeToday · 19/11/2015 23:44

Complain that im tired, yet i stay up so fricken late every single night. Its not just the kids...i drive myself mad, too!

spillyobeans · 19/11/2015 23:26

And yesterday i needed to go to the bank, went to drop ds off with gran so i could get stuff done. Drove all way to town, spent ages trying to find a space, parked, then went to get money and realised id left my purse in ds change bag with gran. Had to do whole journey again

spillyobeans · 19/11/2015 23:23

Also forgot ds date of birth when asked

spillyobeans · 19/11/2015 23:23

So so tired with a non sleeping 4 month old, who was screaming , so thought i would go for a walk with pram (he either sleeps or stops crying when in it). Went out (hair horrid and dressed like a smelly bag woman as i just wanted to get going asap as he was screaming), went for a nice walk round a castle with a green grassy but in front, noticed ds was asleep so i just parked pram up on grass and slept next to it...hopinv people thought i was just chilling in son...

OnTheEdgeToday · 19/11/2015 22:56

Left the house with my actual cup of tea.
Searched high and low for my mobile phone and getting quite frustrated and worried, all the while ranting about not knowing where i could have put it to the person i was talking to...on the phone!
I have left my door unlocked, with the keys in the lock on the outside, several times.
Left my keys at my parents house, got all the way home and remembered where they were...several times.
I always go to appointments either a day late or a day early, despite marking the dates in my diary...i just always mark the wrong dates!!
Put a tea bag into my ds juice.

When im reading an actual book or something, i try and swipe it or click on things.

Waking up with that god awful gut wrenching feeling when i realise i must have dozed off and the kids have been unsupervised.

Convincing myself my alarm clock is telling me lies first thing on a morning, so i turn it off thinking im winning this battle....when its actually real life and i wake up late for school and things!

MaggieRose14 · 19/11/2015 22:52

I feel so much better about driving off with the car door open now!

When DS was a newborn, I would breastfeed him in bed in the middle of the night and then put him back in his Moses basket. I would always wake up in a panic about half an hour after doing this thinking that I had lost him in the duvet. My DH thought it was hilarious that I was frantically searching the bedding but I was such a sleep deprived and nervous wreck I thought I'd lost the baby or even smothered him despite him being asleep in the Moses basket next to me

mimi14 · 19/11/2015 22:37

Put 10 day old DD in her pram, got myself and 4 year old DS ready to go out, and off we went. I turned round to lock the door and noticed DD inside still, sleeping peacefully. STILL didn't twig that we were leaving her behind. Got to the top of the drive and told DS to hold onto the buggy as it was a busy road. He looked confused and said "we left DD sleeping in the kitchen!"

torontonian · 17/11/2015 22:44

Some of these are hilarious, ladies.
It seems that the phone in the fridge is pretty popular. Thinking why my DS puts his piggy bank in the toy fridge lol

  • I have both locked myself out of the house and left the front door wide open
  • Put a pizza in the top part of the oven and turn on only the bottom part (they are completely separate)
  • I need to put 10 consecutive alarms for night feedings or I will not wake up.
  • Went to do laundry and forgot completely about DD in her playmat (she was 3 months old)
  • Left my laptop at Starbucks and didn't realize until I got to the office
  • On green light, I went ahead on two perpendicular pedestrian crossings (second was red, I didn't even look)
  • Didn't notice there are two subway stations with the same name (but one us East and another is West). I went to the wrong one
  • forget to reply emails for so long thato then I am ashamed and I pretend they went to spam and I never received them
  • mistake neighbour's names when talking to them
3sugarsplease · 16/11/2015 06:14

When the baby started crying I picked up the TV control and turned the volume down Blush

FrancisdeSales · 16/11/2015 06:01

Also good friend said to me "You know when you have a newborn and you walk through doorways and knock their head on the doorframe?"

I replied a whispered horrified "yes!".

She said "Well sleeps deprivation affects your depth perception".

FrancisdeSales · 16/11/2015 05:53

I was watching my 5 and 3 yr old dc's playing and then suddenly screamed "OMG where's the baby!"

I was breastfeeding him.

Devora · 22/09/2015 21:56

I once saw a car drive off, leaving a buggy on the pavement. In the basket was a pack of nappies and a wallet containing £300.

I took it to the police station and three days later the owner rang to thank me. She said it had taken her 48 hours to even notice the loss - she was heavily pregnant with her fourth child Grin

JoyceDivision · 22/09/2015 21:36

I still stand in front of the house door (with school bags, pe bags, shopping coats etc hanging off my arms) really tired, needing a wee, and patiently waiting for door to unlock while I point my car key fob at it and keep pressing the button Blush

I left bath on and forgot. Blamed in on dcs for months until I was bit drunk one night and fessed up to dh.

Illstartexercisingtomorrow · 22/09/2015 21:26

I went to the bathroom desperate for a wee, washed my hands and left. Realised a few moments later I had forgotten to actually wee.

Squidiot · 17/09/2015 09:29

dd just kindly reminded me that I once got halfway to the local shops wearing one slipper and one sandal, then thought 'what the hell' and carried on walking. I was too tired to walk back home to change shoes and then walk all the way back to the shops with baby and toddler in tow Grin

JustDanceAddict · 15/09/2015 16:53

Went to local shops with the buggy and came home to the front door being left open. Thank goodness we had a hedge then to hide the mistake as the house was en route to/from the station so had a lot of footfall. So embarrassing!! dH took the house phone to work instead of his mobile (when mobiles looked like house phones!). I once fell asleep in the afternoon & woke up 5 mins pre-pick up. I literally jumped out of bed into the car to get to school & I wasn't even late (but must've looked shocking).

This will out me to friends but never mind! Worst thing I did was drive into a river, there is a road near me that is under water twice a day as the river is tidal. Ds1 would only go to sleep if drove him round, for some reason this day I took this road and came across a large puddle, at no point did my brain register that to the left of me was the river and this 'large puddle' was attached to that, nor that I could stop and turn around, it just went 'fuck, the tide is coming' and for some reason the logical thing to do was put my foot down! Bloody hell I was lucky we escaped with only a reasonably small part of the car being ripped off, paid for that mistake in car repairs and 10 years of piss taking by DH!

ChipsandGuac · 15/09/2015 01:56

I once came in from DC1s school run, desperate for a pee and left the front door wide open without realising. I came out and there was an old woman stood at the door asking, "Are they your children?" DCs3 and 4 had got out the pushchair, ran out the door, ran across the road and were running towards the main road laughing their heads off. I have never run so fast in my life. Toddlers can run realllllly fast when they're doing something they're not supposed to.

WhereTheFuckIsMyFuckingCoat · 15/09/2015 01:44

I have a friend who had three month old dts, who, although were pretty good sleepers, still left her exhausted and with terrible baby brain. She had a terrible headache, and mixed herself a couple of soluble solpadien(sp?). As she gulped them down, a terrible burning started in her mouth and oesophagus - it was only at this point that she realised she was gulping down two dissolved Milton sterilising tablets. She was absolutely terrified and very very sore, but the nhs24 nurse and me, her dad, and neighbour who she also called in hysterics reassured her that she would be fine, just have very clean innards!!

Imisscheese · 14/09/2015 21:35

Recognise lots of these. DP found my tablet in the fridge one evening. I frequently wake up in the middle of the night and rescue DP from the edge, thinking he's DS.
