I can hear DH upstairs pretending to stomp around like a monster, and the kids are shrieking with joy...

...and I just got one of those, stop-and-smell-the-roses moments where you realise those sounds are a very temporary thing.

Some day they'll grow up and not find this kind of thing amusing anymore. And I won't be able to sit down here and happily listen.

Sniff, sniff.

I think I've had one too many glasses of Wine.

Oh how lovely. Enjoy the moment. Don't worry about the future. Flowers

MistressMerryWeather · 30/05/2015 21:04

Bugger, there is summit in my eye...

lucysmam · 30/05/2015 21:02

Aw you lot are so soppy Grin

Every night that dp has worked a 12 hr shift (usually 4 a week), he comes in and takes over so I can get a shower in peace. & every night without fail, I get out to the shreiking and giggling you describe OP.

I sometimes sit and just have a 'moment' listening to them & laughing at them being so giddy Grin

cakesonatrain · 30/05/2015 20:58

And oh! Ds has just started saying I love you, and when he says it to me it's wonderful, but when he says it to his little sister, and holds her hand (they're 3.10 and 2.3) I just want to parcel up that moment and cherish it forever.

Haven't even had a drink yet!

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 30/05/2015 20:58

I envision us all embracing, passing the bottle of vodka, and laughing through our tears by the end of this thread! Grin

Every so often, when all 4 of us are together, being a proper family,, just chilling on the sofa, or reading a bedtime story, or tickling each other, I look around and think "bugger the whole rest of the world, everything I need is right here in this room"

Thenapoleonofcrime · 30/05/2015 20:53

Potterwolfie mine are that age too. You can kind of feel their childhood slipping away in front of your eyes, can't you?

I've gone in pretty much every day of their lives after they've fallen asleep and stroked their faces and told them I love them. It's my nightly ritual, they are fast asleep though and probably have never noticed!

Sparklingbrook · 30/05/2015 20:53

I think I am in the wilderness years. The bit OP describes is long gone (teenagers now). There is much shrieking but not from joy I am afraid. GCSE revision/falling out with friends etc

I am told that it does return though.

Pass us a tissue someone?

Tequilashotfor1 · 30/05/2015 20:51

Is this going to turn in to a drunk thread ? Grin

DS 6 months old is shrieking with laughter at DH who is blowing raspberries on his tummy and playing peekaboo with a cushion. Do love them both .

Mitzi50 · 30/05/2015 20:48

phoenixrose that's a lovely story

Potterwolfie · 30/05/2015 20:48

My two slept in my bed last night as DH is away and it was really stormy. They're 11 and 9 and I just couldn't stop gazing at their sleeping faces, marveling at how fast they'd grown and how soon they'll fly.

Made me more determined to grab every silly moment, cuddle, hug, even the shouty bits, and revel in them. I love how each stage brings new delights, and how proud I am when I can see the young men that they will one day become.

Tequilashotfor1 · 30/05/2015 20:47

My DP does this with dd (2) when she shouts him by his real name from her cot Angry he goes slowly up the first to stsirs then charges uo the rest like a fucking elephant. He is 17 stone.

She finds it hilarious. I have to stop my self from telling them both of.

Yesterday we had a play date and dd and her friend where running around in circles really laughing. Proper gasping for air laughing. I couldn't concentrate on what my friend was saying because the sight was so lovely.

I also have a 20 year old do I know it goes soon Sad

bostonbaby · 30/05/2015 20:45

Ahh made me fill up too
My h would never do that. Doesn't like noise. Or playing. Or kids really Sad

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 30/05/2015 20:44

Sniffing here too. DD is 19, and I haven't seen her since Thursday what with work, college, parties etc.

Still sits next to us on the sofa and tells us she loves us...blows nose

Doobydoo · 30/05/2015 20:42

Lovely postsSmilei know what you mean about time though. Ds1 is 15 and ds2 is 8 . Yesterday we all went out together and had a meal it was lovely!

phoenixrose314 · 30/05/2015 20:41

This is a lovely thread. I sang my 2 year old to sleep on my lap when we were on a VERY delayed train yesterday - I was stroking his hair and watching him snuggle in to me, and it made me think that it won't be long before he won't want cuddles and mummy singing.

The guy who was sitting across to me smiled and said "He's asleep" when he'd fallen, and then when he got up, said "You two have made me want to call my mum and tell her I love her!" so I guess we're spreading the love at least...

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 30/05/2015 20:39

Step and Boutonneux you've made me sniffly again.

Enjoy all these moments,my Ds 17 tomorrow and collecting a car,I'm having moments of my own......with Wine

DextersMistress · 30/05/2015 20:37

Lovely Smile

I love the nights Dp does bedtime, I turn the TV down and listen to them on the monitor. Dc are evil and laugh hysterically at people getting hurt so Dp always drops the book on his face during story time. Their giggles are infectious Grin
