I can hear DH upstairs pretending to stomp around like a monster, and the kids are shrieking with joy...

...and I just got one of those, stop-and-smell-the-roses moments where you realise those sounds are a very temporary thing.

Some day they'll grow up and not find this kind of thing amusing anymore. And I won't be able to sit down here and happily listen.

Sniff, sniff.

I think I've had one too many glasses of Wine.

AHHH! "I'd like to thank the Academy..." Grin Flowers

Love that it will become permanent (if you decide to?!)...I'll read it every time I'm feeling down!

Hi all, we've had a couple of requests for this to go into Classics - whaddaya say? Will we do it? WILL WE?

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 31/05/2015 11:43

No dgc for a while I hope thanks Saga but all 3 have told me at different times that they had a great childhood and couldn't ask for any better.so all those difficult moments are just a part of the whole and have made them the delightful ( and difficult) teens they are.19 16 and 16 but what moments good and bad!!

Hopelass · 31/05/2015 10:05

I got that the other day. DS had a nightmare so DP picked him up and was showing him the trees etc out of the upstairs window, I just stood in the doorway watching them and I got that feeling Smile

Kewcumber · 31/05/2015 09:57

Kew, I swear my ovaries contracted over that picture of your adorable boy. - they'd have been wasting their time - DS was adopted Grin. My ovaries were fucked a bit dodgy.

MumofWombat I knew that I had truly bonded with DS the day that I cried because I thought of something awful happening to him. What an unbearable thought it was, what an unbearable thing you went through. Flowers

I LOVE those moments being described that way: "Nothing but Everything Moments" Ahhhh. Smile

I remember watching DH and Ds through the kitchen window when ds was a toddler. They were planting grass seed together. It was a nothing moment. But it was an everything moment. I told myself to remember the image of that little chap in his wellies working with his daddy.
Ds is now 18. At a family do the other week his 11 yr old cousin who finds life tough at times was having a 'moment'. And again I watched through the kitchen window as Ds took his little cousin for a walk and a chat, tickling his cousin's ear as they went.
Another one for the 'this is what it's all about' memory bank.

The little things just vanish before you know it. I'm starting a new job tomorrow meaning I'll not be able to leave DD (5) to school in the mornings anymore Sad . She used to ask me 'can you walk me to school today, mummy?' and now I'm sick with guilt at the days I told her I was too busy so DH left her to breakfast club instead. On the days I did we used to walk round and the chats we had were the best Smile.

I sometimes gently remind DH how quickly she is growing as I don't think he notices as much, every morning for example it's their little ritual for her to go down the stairs on him piggy-back and I sometimes hear him groaning about his sore back and I shout out 'she won't be asking for piggy backs much longer...' Wink.

GhettoFabulous · 31/05/2015 08:38

One of my fondest childhood memories is of my dad cutting a raw chip in half, sticking them in his mouth like fangs, cushion up the back of his tshirt to make a hump, and chasing us up the stairs making monster noises.

I'm 46!

MumofWombat,I am so sorry that is bloody awful and not something any poor parent should ever have to go through.Sending love and best wishes.

KatieScarlettreregged · 31/05/2015 08:30

MumofWombat
You did everything right. Such a loving child must have been brought up surrounded by love.
I am so sorry for your loss.

I'm another one with young adults
Today I am out with DD and my mum for a spot of lunch and shopping. Arranged by DD. When I think of how much she would rail against such an outing in her younger teens, this is amazing to me Grin
DS completed his 1st year Uni placement on Friday and got a written report from them which forms part of his grade. Was desperate to read it but he wasn't home as he went out to scan and send to his tutor. When he came in, he handed it to me and told me to keep it as he knew I would want to. I did have a tear as I read all about what a fine young man he was Grin
This is a lovely thread.

MumofWombat · 31/05/2015 08:22

Hold those memories tight.

We lost our DC1 last year, he was 3 1/2 years old (he's the wombat in my nickname). One of the many, many lovely memories I have is when he came home from Kindy, ran up to his baby sister (who was eighteen months) hugged her, he said 'I love you' to her and then hugged her again. DH and I both dissolved in tears and it was the moment I knew I hadn't got parenting completely wrong.

ohtheholidays · 31/05/2015 08:21

KEWCUMBER your little boy is absolutely gorgeous and it looks like he's a very big fan of his Mummy.Smile

ohtheholidays · 31/05/2015 08:18

My DH is the same and it is really lovely to see and hear.

I honestly think it will be one of the strongest and most positive memories the children will have when they grow up.Smile

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 31/05/2015 07:36

farmlass you've made me realise that's what I need to do! "Store them up" in my memory so when they're older I can look back.

It sounds like you may have dgc in your future yet to come, so you can have little round tums and chubby fingers back in your life again? Flowers

Hirples I have one like that of DH and dd. V sweet photo. He says things to me too sometimes and I can hear him getting a little choked up...like "some day I'll be walking her down the aisle..."

I have the most beautiful pic of DS asleep on the sofa, with 2yo dgs asleep on him/in his arms as my background pic on my ipad. It makes me smile every time. The love and trust is just gorgeous.

SilverNightFairy · 31/05/2015 00:17

My 16 yr old dd is currently snuggled up in bed next to watching TV. She lives with her dad and is usually out working or with her boyfriend. I am happy and content right now.

farmlass · 31/05/2015 00:05

Have a few moments stored up! They make me cry if I want to. Today ds home from uni carried sis around kitchen over his shoulder seems to be a ritual every time and rugby tackled brother to floor and sat on him.also managed to karate chop dh on cheek bone.very funny family moments . But those soft baby moments .chubby hands and little round tums - I am going to cry again!!!!

drinkscabinet · 31/05/2015 00:02

I've got a photo on my camera of my two DDs last week cuddled up asleep in bed together, face to face, having spent the night in the same bed. So so gorgeous.

We've had my Mum providing free childcare visiting over half term and it's just a joy seeing her and DS (2) together, they have such fun together. I love half term, it's so nice having just a week with no pressure to go away, we've made good use of our EH membership, had 4(!) picnic lunches and a lovely day chilling in the garden last weekend when it was gorgeously hot. Bliss.
